  • The aim of the research is to provide possibility of quality controlling by rheological properties for lightweight foamed concrete. The lightweight foamed concrete achieves its low density by containing air bubbles (foam) produced during the mixing process. Therefore, containing foamed volume during setting period is critical for the securing the performance as an insulating material. In this research, regarding foam collapse during the setting period, rheolgocial properties of fresh state lightweight foamed concrete were assessed to get its relationship with volume stability, or foam stability. For the experiment regarding foaming factors including mixing time, mix design of contents for materials, rheological properties of fresh state lightweight foamed concrete were tested with its density and settling depth. Based on the settling depth with various factors, relationship with rheological properties was analyzed, and especially, close relationship of plastic viscosity and settling depth was found. Therefore, from the results of this research, it is considered to contribute on suggesting a new approach of quality controlling for lightweight foamed concrete using rheological test method.

  • This study is designed to manufacture the continuous foamed concrete and the sound absorption characteristics investigation due to continuous voids ratio. According to the results of experiment, it was shown that continuous voids of the foamed concrete has the influence of the amount used of foaming agent, the viscosity and flowability of cement paste, and also is shaped by cohesive power of bubbles. Also the sound absorption ratio of the foamed concrete is subject to increase as the density becomes low by raising the continuous voids ratio. The cement paste with low water-cement ratio and high cement fineness are very effective to prevent weak strength of formed concrete caused by the increase of the porosity.

  • The lightweight foamed concrete is superior to properties of insulation and light-weight because it is included in many inner pore. So, lightweight foamed concrete used to construction field that need to property of insulation. The property of insulation of lightweight foamed concrete is varied with density. Also, Density is varied with hardening matrix and pore rate. The purpose of the experiment is to know thermal properties of specimen according to the change of density when heating the specimen. As a result of this experiment, the higher density, the lower temperature of mold. this tendency isn't same as ordinary lightweight foamed concrete, and then density 0.9 is expressed most low temperature result also the discontinuity of shape of mold was efficient for the prevention of the temperature rise.

  • Within the scope of this study, the foam solution was prepared by properly mixing sulfonate based foam agent with water. Furthermore, this solution was mixed with the mixture of fine sand, cement, and water to produce foamed concrete. The mixture ratios which are the percentage of foam solution used in foam concrete were chosen as 0, 20, 40 and 60% by vol. After these groups reached 28 days of strength, they were heated to 20, 100, 400 and $700^{\circ}C$ respectively. Afterward, high-temperature effects on the foamed concrete were obtained by employing physical and mechanical properties tests. Additionally, SEM (scanning electron microscope) and EDX (energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) tests were employed to analyze the microstructure, and ${\mu}-CT$ (micro computed tomography) images were used to reconstruct 3-D models of the heat-treated specimens. Then, these models are analyzed to examine the void structures and the changes in these structures due to the high temperatures. The study has shown that the void structures reduce the high-temperature effects and the foam solution could be mixed with concrete up to 40 % by vol. where the high strength of foamed concrete is non-mandatory.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a high-performance foamed concrete made with a new mixture proportioning as an alternative of autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) block. For the early-strength gain of the foamed concrete under an atmospheric curing condition, the binders and chemical agents were specially contrived as follows: 3% anhydrous gypsum was added to ordinary portland cement (OPC) in which $3CaO{\cdot}SiO_2$ content was controlled to be above 60%; and the content of polyethylene glycol alkylether in a polycarboxylate-based water-reducing agent was modified to be 28%. Using these binders and chemical agents, 11 mixes were prepared with the parameters of W/B ratio (30% to 20% in a interval of 2.5%) and unit binder content ($400kg/m^3$ to $650kg/m^3$ in a interval of $50kg/m^3$). The quality and availability of the mixed foamed concrete were examined according to the minimum requirements specified in the KS for ALC block and existed conventional foamed concrete. The measured properties satisfied the minimum requirement of KS for ALC block and proved that the developed high-performance foamed concrete had considerable potential for practical application.

  • The objective of this study is to develop mixture proportioning approach of crack controlled lightweight foamed concrete without using high-pressure steam curing processes, as an alternative to autoclaved lightweight concrete blocks (class 0.6 specified in KS). To control thermal cracks owing to hydration heat of cementitious materials, 30% ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) was used as a partial replacement of ordinary portland cement (OPC). Furthermore, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyamid (PA) fibers were added to improve the crack resistance of foamed concrete. The use of 30% GGBS reduced the peak value of hydration production rate measured from isothermal tests by 28% and the peak temperature of foamed concrete measured from semi-adiabatic hydration tests by 9%. Considering the compressive strength development, internal void structure, and flexural strength of the lightweight foamed concrete, the optimum addition amount of PVA or PA fibers could be recommended to be $0.6kg/m^3$, although PA fiber slightly preferred to PVA fiber in enhancing the flexural strength of foamed concrete.

  • The purpose of this study was to prepare lightweight foamed concrete by mixing coal fly ash of circulating fluidized bed combustion(CFBC) with cement, and to develop uses for recycling by analyzing carbonation behavior resulting from a change in conditions for pressurized carbonation. For concrete, CFBC coal fly ash was mixed with Portland cement to the water-binder ratio of 0.5, and aging was applied at room temperature after 3 days of curing at $20^{\circ}C$, RH 60%. For carbonation, temperature was fixed at $60^{\circ}C$ and time at 1 h in the use of autoclave. Pressures were controlled to be $5kgf/cm^2$ and the supercritical condition of $80kgf/cm^2$, and gas compositions were employed as $CO_2$ 100% and $CO_2$ 15%+N2 85%. In the characteristics of produced lightweight concrete, the characteristics of lightweight foamed concrete resulting from carbonation reaction were affirmed through rate of weight change, carbonation depth test, air permeability, and processing analysis for the day 28 specimen. Based on these results, it is concluded that the present approach could provide a viable method for mass production of eco-friendly lightweight foamed concrete from CFBC coal fly ash stabilized by carbonation.
