Urban development is a cause of expansion of impervious area. A permanent storage is operated as a method of reducing runoff of watershed. The purpose of study is to propose reasonable choice of simulation model for rainfall-runoff in the prior review system on disaster effect. First, we indicated problem about concentration time choice in the flood simulation. To test the adequacy of a rainfall-runoff simulation model, We analyzed characteristics of rainfall-runoff about urban and natural watersheds. A simulation model was calibrated with the storm of july 7 to July 9 in 2009. From the result, we proposed that SWMM and kinematic wave method as the flood simulation models for urban and natural watersheds. A simulation model and design method of a permanent storage for flood that is proposed in this study will be useful for practical design of flood simulation. The hydrologic analysis method of the study can be used for capacity evaluation of permanent storage plan.
US NWS/NETWORK is applied for the analysis of the flood of July 11-15, 1981 through the Goan-Indogyo reach of the Han River. For the flood hydrography synthesis of the lateral inflows from the major tributaries into the main reach the Cleak method is employed. NETWORK coupled with the Clark method of hydrography synthesis simulated with a fair accuracy the oberved flood hydrograph at the downstream boundary of the routing reach. The dffect of SCS runoff curve number for fributary flood synthesis is evaluated. The characteristics of the station variations and time variations of the flood discharges in the reach is also analyzed.

This study is that analyzes the flood damages caused by rainfall during typhoon and how inundated area should be affected. Using HEC-HMS for analyzing rainfall-runoff and GIS (Geography Information System) for analyzing inundated area and volume. Each model was applied to Seopyung area for runoff effect analysis. As the result, Damaged area was magnified gradually according to the increase of rainfall and GIS was good for calculating the exact flood damage area at varied time.
Namgang Dam is located in the upstream of Nam river. Namgang Dam controls flood for the downstream of Namgang Dam using the Namgang spillway and the Sacheonman spillway with planned discharge. However, it had not been evaluated adequately that the effect of the discharge through Sacheonman spillway on the flood reduction of the downstream of Namgang Dam. This study performs runoff simulation considering the discharge from Namgang Dam and Sacheonman spillway. And modeling results are evaluated for the flood reduction effect of Sacheonman spillway on the downstream of Namgang Dam. This study uses a distributed model, GRM(Grid based Rainfall-runoff Model) for runoff analysis. As a result, Sacheonman spillway is assigned more discharge than Namgang Dam, and Sacheonman spillway greatly affects flood reduction in the downstream of Namgang Dam.

When typhoon occurs, the meteorological conditions get worse and can cause a large damage from storm and flood . This damage, however, can be minimized if a precise analysis of the runoff characteristics by typhoon tracks is used in the flood contorl This paper aims at the analysis of storm occurrence and runoff characteristics by typhoon tracks in Nakdong river basin. Therefore, the data of 14 typhoons which invaded Nakdong river basin during the period from 1975 to 1991 were collected, analyzed, and studied. The major results of this study are as followings; 1) The frequency of the typhoon occurrence here in Korea was affected by the storms three times a year on the average. The highest-recorded frequency was during the months of July to September. 2) The survey of the track characteristics depending on the forms of the storm in the Nakdong river basin showed that typhoon storm advanced from the south of the basin to the north, while the frontal type storm was most likely to advanced from the west to the north. 3) Typhoon tracks are classified into three categories, 6 predictors with high correlation coefficient are finally selected, and stepwise multiple regression method are used to establish typhoon strom forecasting models. 4) The riview on the directions of progress of the storm made it clear that the storm moving downstream from upstream of the basin could develop into peak discharge for ca short time and lead to more flood damage than in any other direction.

An object-orient watershed runoff model was formulated using the SCS curve number method and routing routines. The four objects included in the model were rainfall , hydrologic unit, reservoir, and channel. Each object considers the data and simulation method to depict the runoff processes. the details of which were presented and discusses in the paper. The resulting model was applied to the HS #3 watershed of the Balan Watershed Project, which is 412.5 ha in size and relatively steep in landscape. The simulated runoff hydrographs from the model were close to the observed data.
In recent years satellite data have been increasingly used for the analysis of floodprone areas. This study was carried out to demonstrate the usefulness of repetitive satellite imagery in monitoring flood levels of the Pyungchang watershed. Runoff characteristics parameters were analyzed by Soil Conservation Service(SCS) Runoff Curve Number(RCN) based on Landsat imagery and Digital Terrain Model data. The RCN average within the watershed was calculated from RCN estimates for all the pixels(picture elements) and adjusted by antecedent precipitation conditions. The direct runoff hydrograph was derived from the unit hydrograph using SCS dimensionless unit hydrograph and effective rainfalls estimated by the SCS method. In comparsion of the direct runoff hydrograph with the measured rating curve their peak times differ by one hour and peak discharges differ by 5.9 percents of the discharge from each other. It was shown that repetitive satellite image could be very useful in timely estimating watershed runoffs and evaluating ever-changing surface conditions of a river basin.

The formulas for estimating the constants of storage function model including K and TL for runoff analysis and a distributed storage function model are discussed in this study. First, the relations between parameters of the storage function model and the kinematic runoff model are theoretically examined, and then optimum constants of storage function model are obtained by the Standardized Davidson-Fletcher-Powell (SDFP) method. Through this analysis, theoretical formulas were obtained as $K = 0.63 {\alpha} KsB{^0.6}$ and $T_{L}=0.11 {\alpha} KsB{^0.6} r{^0.4} {_e}$, which are difficult to use practically because of the unclarified definition of shape factors. From a practical point of view, empirical formula were derived as $K=15.6{^0.3} {_m}$ and $T_{L}=2.1B{^0.36} {_m} {_e}/r{^0.4} {_e}$ for applied watersheds. The proposed formulas are verified for several recoded floods at a few points of watersheds. It is also found that the distributed storage function. can be applied to flood runoff analysis using the new formulas aboved mentioned.

Floods can be caused by a variety of factors, and the main cause of floods is the exceeding of urban drainage system or river capacity. In addition, rainfall frequently occurs that causes large watershed runoff. Since the existing methodology of preparing for flood risk map is based on hydraulic and hydrological modeling, it is difficult to analyse for a large area because it takes a long time due to the extensive data collection and complex analysis process. In order to overcome this problem, this study proposes a methodology of mapping for flood vulnerable area that considered the surface runoff mechanism. This makes it possible to reduce the time and effort required to estimate flood vulnerabilities and enable detailed analysis of large areas. The target area is Seoul, and it was confirmed that flood damage is likely to occur near selected vulnerable areas by verifying using 2×2 confusion matrix and ROC curve. By selecting and prioritizing flood vulnerable areas through the surface runoff mechanism proposed in this study, the establishment of systematic disaster prevention measures and efficient budget allocation will be possible.

In this study, a methodology is developed for flood runoff analysis considering the interaction between interior floodplain and channel. Riparian lowland is modeled as storage areas by HEC-RAS and is connected with main channel through gravity drainage structure and pumping stations. As a result, we were able to compute the difference between runoff into the interior floodplain and delayed runoff to main channel from interior floodplain. This allowed us to compute the storage change in the interior floodplain and corresponding inundation areas. Furthermore, the levee is modeled as a lateral structure and the flood from the main channel to interior floodplain is modeled by installing a weir on top of it. In addition, levee breach is also modeled so that flooding from main channel to interior floodplain can be considered. Computed flooding depth in the storage areas are compared with elevation to identify the inundated areas and flood maps can then be produced for a desired time or for the extent of flooding given a flooding depth. Output from this modeling effort can provide many useful information for flood planning such as flow depth in main channel, flooding depth and area in interior floodplain. The method was applied to Sapgyo river basin and the comparison with observed flood events showed that it can reproduce the observation fairly well, hence proving the utility of the method.
