The fish fauna of Munsom in Jeju-do, Korea, was investigated for a total of five times underwater from April 2009 to October 2010. Fish specimens were collected with a small net by SCUBA diving and fish specimens difficult to collect were photographed underwater using a underwater camera and a camcorder. The fish specimens collected from the sea around Munsom were identified as 91 species, belonging to 73 genera, 39 families, and 11 orders. Among them, the largest group was Order Perciformes, comprising 54 species and 21 families, consisting 59.3% in total number of species and the following 19 species of Order Scorpaeniformes was 20.8%. In this study Amblyeleotris sp. of family Gobiidae was discovered as new species by underwater photography in Korea. It was more the demersal fishes (55%) than the pelagic fishes (45%) and in social behavior pattern it was much more species swimming alone than schooling.
The freshwater fish fauna were surveyed in the Sumsuk stream located in Kangreung, Korea in August and October, 1992. The collected fishes includ 19 species, representing 6 families and 14 genera. Of these, Phoxinus keumkang, Coreoleucisus splendidus and Cobitis rotundicaudata are endemic to Korea. The dominant species were Chaenogobius annularis $(32.2\%)$, Phoxinus phoxinus $(27.0\%)$ and P. lagowskii $(21.1\%)$. Comparing to the previous studies, drastic changes have been occurred not only in number of species, but also in species composition.
Freshwater fish fauna in Pyongchangang in which having been constructed to water supply for Chechon city was carried out to clarify the impacts of ecosystem on freshwater fish as rapid reduction of constant river flood both Sep. 25, 1994 and Oct. 7, 1994 ~ Oct. 9, 1994. It was 28 species of 21 genera on 6 Families freshwater fishes including a natural monument at and many endemic species among 6 survey stations in Pyongchang. The Pyongchang that was moved in a zigzag direction having been keep constant flood and high diversity of freshwater fishes. There was a high possibility of serious extinction on freshwater fishes as rapid reduction of constant flood in Pyongchangkang.
From April to October 2008, fish fauna was surveyed at 25 sites in Lake Ganwol and Lake Bunam watersheds. There were 32 species of 25 genera and 10 families belonging to 5 orders. Among them, Zacco platypus (relative abundance was 28.0%) was dominant, followed by Hemiculter eigenmanni (24.3%), Carassius auratus (19.3%), and Pseudorasbora parva (10.8%). In comparison of specific frequency in fish community between two lakes, Z. platypus (36.6%) was dominant and P. parva (15.7%) subdominant in Lake Ganwol, whereas H. eigenmanni (35.2%) and C. auratus (30.4%) were dominant in Lake Bunam. Eight species including Acheilognathus chankaensis were known to be Korean endemic species, and exotic species was Micropterus salmodes. Biological indices of fish community indicated mostly similar values in 25 sites. Specific similarities of fish community in the sites were largely divided into two groups: a group of the Waryong Stream and the Dodang Stream where water flows throughout the year, and the other group of watersheds at Lake Ganwol and Lake Bunam where water was static. Fish fauna and structure of fish communities have some differences between Lake Ganwol and Lake Bunam watersheds, and also can be distinguished to the environmental factors of habitats in same watershed.
The objective of this study was to evaluate fish passage efficiency, based on fish-trap monitoring methodology, in the fishway of Seungchon Weir, which was constructed on the lower region of Yeongsan River in 2011. Seasonal patterns and diel variations of fish movements, fish fauna, and compositions in the fishway were analyzed in relation to the current velocity and location of the trap-setting in the fishway. For the analysis, we conducted seven times surveys in 2012 on the fishway and also conducted intensive monitoring of the fishway as 3 hrs interval for the diel variations of fish fauna and compositions in the fishway. According to the fish-trap monitoring methodology, the total number of fish species was 13 species, which was a 43.3% of the total. Most dominant fish used the fishway was Squalidus chankaensis tsuchigae and the relative abundance of the species used the fishway was 33.5% of the total. The season and time zone (in diel variation) observed most frequently in the fishway were July and 18:00-21:00 PM, respectively. The fish movements and use-rates of fishway varied depending on the locations of trap-setting; Fish biomass and the number of species were statistically (p < 0.05) greater in the most right or left-sided traps than in the mid-traps. Also, fish movements and use-rates of fishway were influenced by current velocity on the fishway; fish in the fishway preferred the low current velocity (mean 0.71 m/sec) than the high current velocity (mean 1.13 m/sec). Further long-term studies should be monitored for the efficiency evaluations of the fishway.
The Japanese codling fish, Physiculus japonica (family Moridae) is recorded as new to the Korean fish fauna. The specimen was fished from the South-Eastern waters off Jeju Island, Korea in March 1999. Standard length of the specimen was 343.2 mm, with a thin barbel on ower jaw, 67 soft second dorsal rays, 71 soft anal rays and 12 lateral-line above scales. Identification key of this specimen as P. japonica in the family Moridae was teethless vomer, chin barbel and well-developed black ventral light organ located on the anterior of anus. We give a new Korean name Dol-dae-gu for P. japonica.
The fish faeona of the Hyeongsan River was found to be as follows; 1. The study of fish fauna for this paper was achieved from May to August in 1978. 2. The collected cyprinid fishes from the Hyeongsan River are 13 species in 10 genera, i. e., Cyprinus carpio, Carassius auratus, Gnathopogon coreanus, Gnathopogon majimae, Pseudorasbora parve, Pungtungia herzi, Moroco oxycephalus, Moroco lagewskii, Triboledon hakenensis, Zacco platypus, Zacco temmincki, Rhodeus ocellatus and Pseudoperilampus uyekii. 3. Among them the 5 species, Pseudorasbora parva, Moroco oxycephalus, Zacco platypus, Rhodeus ocellatue and Pseudoperilampus uyekii, are first described from this river. 4. Zacco temmincki is a dominant species in the whole river and Moroco oxycephalus at the upper, Zacco temmincki at the middle and Carassius auratus at the lower part of the river are dominant species in each studied area. 5. The number of distributed cyprinid species in this river compared to the adjacent river basins is $43.3\%$ of the whole Nakdong River and $118.2\%$ of the Taewha River.
The fish fauna and community structure were investigated in the Lake Cheongpyeong, Korea, from August 2003 to April 2004. During the period, 43 species belonging 10 families were collected. There were 18 Korean endemic species 41.9%. The five dominant species numerically were A. gracilis (17.4%), Zacco platypus (14.6%), A. yamatsutae (13.2%), Hemibarbus labeo (11.9%), Rhinogobius brunneus (11.7%), and Zacco temmicki (3.0%). The five dominant species in biomass were Erythroculter erythropterus (15.07 kg), H. labeo (13.21 kg), Carassius cuvieri (6.47 kg), A. gracilis (6.05 kg), and Z. platypus (4.71 kg). Of 6 exotic fishes in the lake C. cuvieri, Lepomis macrochirus and Micropterus salmoides were originated from foreign countries but Anguilla japonica, Tridentiger brevispinis, and Chaenogobius urotaenius were introduced from other watershed in Korea.
Diversity of fish fauna and species list collected from the Imha-Dam Reservoir of the Nakdonggang River system were reviewed based on the published materials from 1992 to 2016. As a result of the present study, 46 freshwater fish species/subspecies belonging to 36 genera, 11 families, 4 orders were reported in the Imha-Dam Reservoir. Of them, Cyprinidae occupied 58.7% (27 species), Cobitidae 10.9% (5 spp.), Gobiidae 6.5% (3 spp.), and Siluridae, Centropomidae, Centrarchidae were 4.3% (2 spp.) in the number of species, respectively. The dominant species in the number of individuals was Erythroculter erythropterus (40.1%, 9,333 inds.), and the subdominant species was Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis (9.8%, 2,281 inds.). Among 46 species/subspecies, 17 species (37.0%) were identified as endemic species to Korea. Three species were endangered fish species by the Ministry of Environment of Korea, five translocated species, and three exotic species were reported.

This study investigated the fish fauna of Jeonjucheon and Samcheon Streams, flowing through the city of Jeonju, through surveys conducted at 10 sampling sites using kick net and cast net. The fish fauna collected included 10 families and 36 species, with a total of 2,064 individuals. Samcheon had 8 families and 30 species with 1,074 individuals, Jeonjucheon had 8 families and 26 species with 986 individuals. The dominant species was Zacco platypus with 1,202 individuals, and a total of 153 individuals of the subdominant were Pseudogobio esocinus. In Jeonjucheon Stream, a total of 567 individuals of the dominant species were collected as Z. platypus and 99 individuals of the subdominant species were collected as Pungtungia herzi, and there was no significant change in the stream environment except for the confluence site. Further expanded research covering the entire Jeonjucheon and Samcheon Streams region, accompanied by regular monitoring, is essential to record and understand fluctuations in fish fauna.
