  • This paper presents a neural network method for tuning PlD controller of a time-varying process. Three gains of PlD controller are tuned for a certain desirable response pattern by back-propagation neural network. The neural network is trained using changes of output features vs. changes of PlD gains. But sometimes it needs longer training time and larger structure to train the correlation between the process and controller on entire region of the process. The difficulty in system identification is that the inverse function of the system can not be clearly stated. To cope with the problem, we do not train the neural network to respond correctly for the entire regions but train for only local region where the system is heading toward by training the neural network and tuning of the PlD controller. It may be trained for fine-tuning itself. Simulation results show that the adaptive PID controller using neural network trained in the local area performs remarkably for time-varying second order process.

  • The present experimental study is focused on the application of multi-point simultaneous measurement by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) to guide vane region within diffuser pump. Various different kinds of rotational velocity were selected as experimental condition. Optimized cross correlation identification to obtain velocity vectors is implemented with direct calculation of correlation coefficients. Fine optical setup concerned with PIV performance is arranged for the accurate PIV measurement of high-speed complex flow. Variable flow pattern are represented quantitatively at the stator region.

  • As device dimension shrinks down to sub 100nm, it is increasingly important to monitor plasma states. Plasma etching is a key means to fine patterning of thin films. Many parameters are involved in etching and each parameter has different impact on process performances, including etch rate and profile. The uniformity of etch responses should be maintained high to improve device yield and throughput. The uniformity can be measured on any etch response. The most difficulty arises when attempting to characterize etched profile. Conventionally, the profile has been estimated by measuring the slope or angle of etched pattern. One critical drawback in this measurement is that this is unable to cap...

  • Washboarding is a phenomenon in which a wavy shape occurs periodically and naturally on an unpaved road made of soil or gravel. This phenomenon causes high-frequency vibration of the traffic traveling on the road because of the height difference of the wave pattern, which may lead to vehicle failure. Consequently, associated research is needed concerning vehicle safety. Therefore, in this study, a numerical simulation was conducted using the discrete element method, which is often used for powder simulation. In contrast to previous studies, the results of this study demonstrate that washboarding can occur even in an environment of 1.5 m/s or less. However, the amount of washboarding is minimal. The study revealed that washboarding develops over time, such that sufficient development time is required before measurements are taken.

  • The principal purpose of this study is focused on the fabrics used in Kaya period by investigating the imprinted fabrics on the remains of the old tomb of Dohang-ri and Jeesan-dong which were built around the late 4th century to the late 6th century. Most of the remains are plain weaved, however there is one remain that 4-end complex gauze with patterned, and the other is weaved with geometrical pattern which were plain weave with 2 · 1 twill and 3 · 1 twill. The imprinted fabrics that had twists had S twists only. Of all the fabrics that were examined, the most loose one had the density of 8 × 6/cm, the most fine fabric had the weft density of 91.8 strands/cm and the warp density cannot be counted. It is No. 416 of Doharg-ri tomb that has the highest ratio of density as 3.15. All the fabrics observed by SEM and Polarizing Microscope are hemp.

  • The semiconductor's design rule becomes more stringent, hence the silicon-dioxide etching technique is important issue. In this work we compared the etching characteristics of different three types of Plasma source, Normal ICP, magnetized ICP and E-IC $P^{TM}$. The E-IC $P^{TM}$ source shows higher etch rate at lower pressure and this is advantageous for the fine pattern process. The etching characteristics were varied with external magnetic field frequency at I-lCP and this is examined with Nanospe $c^{TM}$ and SEM. We designed Langmuir probe system for time resolved diagnosis. ion density of E-ICP is varying periodically with the applied external magnetic field frequencyquency

  • A variety of pattern recognition algorithms including neural networks may be applicable to the identification of odors. In this paper, an identification technique for an electronic odor sensing system applicable to wound state monitoring is presented. The performance of the radial basis function(RBF) network is highly dependent on the choice of centers and widths in basis function. For the fine tuning of centers and widths, those parameters are initialized by an ill-conditioned genetic fuzzy c-means algorithm, and the distribution of input patterns in the very first stage, the stochastic gradient(SG), is adapted. The adaptive RBF network with singular value decomposition(SVD), which provides additional adaptation capabilities to the RBF network, is used to process data from array-based gas sensors for early detection of wound infection in burn patients. The primary results indicate that infected patients can be distinguished from uninfected patients.

  • The sub-resonance modes can be easily excited by the assembling tolerance in the asymmetric type optical pick-up actuators, compared with the symmetric type. In this paper, we propose the novel method for reducing the vibration due to the sub-resonance modes whose amplitude can be decreased by adding the damper and increasing the flexibility of holder PCB. Using the finite element method, the change of mode shapes is investigated as the shape of holder PCB is modified. Experimental results support that the propopsed method reduces remarkably the vibration of sub-resonance modes of the optical pick-up actuator.
