  • In this study, we tried to utilize results of the change detection analysis for satellite images as the basis for updating the land cover map. The Sequential Spectral Change Vector Analysis ($S^2CVA$) was applied to multi-temporal multispectral satellite imagery in order to extract changed areas, efficiently. Especially, we minimized the false alarm rate of unsupervised change detection due to the seasonal variation using the direction information in $S^2CVA$. The binary image, which is the result of unsupervised change detection, was integrated with the existing land cover map using the zonal statistics. And then, object-based analysis was performed to determine the changed area. In the experiment using PlanetScope data and the land cover map of the Ministry of Environment, the change areas within the existing land cover map could be detected efficiently.

  • In this paper, we propose a new vision-based fire detection method for a real-life application. Most previous vision-based methods using color information and temporal variation of pixel produce frequent false alarms because they used a lot of heuristic features. Furthermore there is also computation delay for accurate fire detection. To overcome these problems, we first detected candidated fire regions by using background modeling and color model of fire. Then we made probabilistic models of fire by using a fact that fire pixel values of consecutive frames are changed constantly and applied them to a Bayesian Network. In this paper we used two level Bayesian network, which contains the intermediate nodes and uses four skewnesses for evidence at each node. Skewness of R normalized with intensity and skewnesses of three high frequency components obtained through wavelet transform. The proposed system has been successfully applied to many fire detection tasks in real world environment and distinguishes fire from moving objects having fire color.

  • This study utilizes the fuzzy logic and genetic algorithm to improve the existing incident detection models by addressing the problems associated with "crisp" thresholds and model transferability (applicability). The model's major components were designed to be a set of the fuzzy inference engines, and for the self-adaptation capability the genetic algorithm was introduced in optimization(or training) of the fuzzy membership functions. This approach is often called "the hybrid of fuzzy-genetic algorithm" The model performance was tested and found to be compatible with that of the existing well-recognized models in terms of performance measures such as detection rate, false alarm rate, and detection time. This study was not an effort for simple improvement of the model performance, but an experimental attempt to incorporate new characteristics essential for the incident detection model to be universally applicable for various roadway and traffic conditions. The study results prove that the initial objective of the study was satisfied, and suggest a direction that the future research work in this area must follow.

  • License plate detection (LPD) is one of the most important aspects of an automatic license plate recognition system. Although there have been some successful license plate recognition (LPR) methods in past decades, it is still a challenging problem because of the diversity of plate formats and outdoor illumination conditions in image acquisition. Because the accurate detection of license plates under different conditions directly affects overall recognition system accuracy, different methods have been developed for LPD systems. In this paper, we propose a license plate detection method that is rapid and robust against variation, especially variations in illumination conditions. Taking the aspects of accuracy and speed into consideration, the proposed system consists of two stages. For each stage, Haar-like features are used to compute and select features from license plate images and a cascade classifier based on the concatenation of classifiers where each classifier is trained by an AdaBoost algorithm is used to classify parts of an image within a search window as either license plate or non-license plate. And it is followed by connected component analysis (CCA) for eliminating false positives. The two stages use different image preprocessing blocks: image preprocessing without adaptive thresholding for the first stage and image preprocessing with adaptive thresholding for the second stage. The method is faster and more accurate than most existing methods used in LPD. Experimental results demonstrate that the LPD rate is 98.38% and the average computational time is 54.64 ms.

  • In this paper, a fast human detection method using adaptive UV-histogram and template matching is proposed. The proposed method improves the detection rate in the scene of complex environment. The method firstly generates U-histogram to extract human candidates and adaptively generates V-histogram for each labled U-histogram, thus it could extract humans correctly, which was impossible in the previous method. The method tries to match the human candidates with the adaptively sized omega shape template to the focal length and distance in order to improve the detection accuracy. It also detects false positives by rematching the template with accumulated foreground images and hence is robust to the occlusion. Experimental results showed that the proposed method has superior performance to the Bae's method in the complex environment with about 15% improvement in precision and 80% in recall and has 20 times faster processing time than Xia's method.

  • MTI filter is used to separate target signal from clutter in many radar signal processing. By suppressing clutter before CFAR detection, the detection performance can be improved. As a radar system designed, a design engineer generally takes averaged SNR and CNR into account and does not include the effect of MTI filter's frequency response. In practice, when the signals including clutter are pass through the filter, SNR is widely varying according to target velocity and CNR is also varying according to clutter center frequency and spectrum spreading. In this paper, we have derived the relationship between the MTI filter's frequency response and a target's velocity and a clutter's spectrum characteristics. With the variation of SNR and CNR at the filter output, the detection performance of CFAR has been analyzed by the simulation and has made certain of their influences on the performance.

  • A generation of rules or patterns for detecting attacks from network is very difficult. Detection rules and patterns are usually generated by Expert's experiences that consume many man-power, management expense, time and so on. This paper proposes statistical methods that effectively detect intrusion and attacks without expert's experiences. The methods are to select useful measures in measures of network connection(session) and to detect attacks. We extracted the network session data of normal and each attack, and selected useful measures for detecting attacks using relative entropy. And we made probability patterns, and detected attacks using likelihood ratio testing. The detecting method controled detection rate and false positive rate using threshold. We evaluated the performance of the proposed method using KDD CUP 99 Data set. This paper shows the results that are to compare the proposed method and detection rules of decision tree algorithm. So we can know that the proposed methods are useful for detecting Intrusion and attacks.

  • In this paper we proposed and implemented an incident detection model which combines fuzzy algorithm and traffic pattern in order to enhance the efficiency of incident detection for the highways with lamps. Most of the existing algorithms dealt with highways without lamps and can not be used for detecting incidents in the highways with lamps. The data used for model building are traffic volume, occupancy, and speed data. They have been collected by a loop sensor at 5 minutes interval at a point in the Internal Circular Highway of Seoul for the period of 3 months. In this model, the three parameters collected by sensor were fuzzified and combined with the daily traffic pattern of the link. The test of efficiency of the propsed model was performed by comparing the result of proposed model with traditional APID algorithm and fuzzy algorithm without the pattern data respectively. The result showed significant amount of improvement in reducing the false incident detection rate by 18%.

  • To address the importance of the process fault detection for productivity, support vector machines (SVMs) is employed to assist the decision to determine process faults in real-time. The reactive ion etching (RIE) tool data acquired from a production line consist of 59 variables, and each of them consists of 10 data points per second. Principal component analysis (PCA) is first performed to accommodate for real-time data processing by reducing the dimensionality or the data. SVMs for eleven steps or etching m are established with data acquired from baseline runs, and they are further verified with the data from controlled (acceptable) and perturbed (unacceptable) runs. Then, each SVM is further utilized for the fault detection purpose utilizing control limits which is well understood in statistical process control chart. Utilizing SVMs, fault detection of reactive ion etching process is demonstrated with zero false alarm rate of the controlled runs on a run to run basis.

  • The robust feature vector selection method for the multiple frontal face detection is proposed in this paper. The proposed feature vector for the training and classification are integrated by means, amplitude projections, and its 1D Harr wavelet of the input image. And the statistical modeling is performed both for face and nonface classes. Finally, the estimated probability density functions (PDFs) are applied for the detection of multiple frontal faces in the still image. The proposed method can handle multiple faces, partially occluded faces, and slightly posed-angle faces. And also the proposed method is very effective for low quality face images. Experimental results show that detection rate of the propose method is $98.3\%$ with three false detections on the testing data, SET3 which have 227 faces in 80 images.
