In power supply systems for urban areas, issues such as a progressive tax have escalated recently. In this regard, photovoltaic power generation, which is appraised as an alternative power generation system, is drawing attention increasingly for its high stability and applicability to existing infrastructure. This study assessed the realistic feasibility of photovoltaic power generation and also analyzed the economic benefits expected when it is linked with green roof, which is likely to promote ecological functions in urban areas, based on the Seoul solar map, RPS, and actual monitoring data. The economics analysis of 30kW photovoltaic power generation applied with the monthly average horizontal solar radiation of six grades in the Seoul solar map showed that positive NPV was up to grade 4, while grade 5 or poorer showed negative NPV and indicated that it is difficult to assure appropriate feasibility. Compared with non-afforestation, when green roof was applied, monthly average power improvement efficiency was 7.2% at highest and 3.7% at lowest based on yearly actual monitoring data. The annual average was 5.3%, and the efficiency was high relatively in summer, including September and November. As for the economic benefits expected when 30kw photovoltaic power generation is combined with green roof based on the average horizontal solar radiation of grade 1 in the Seoul solar map, SP has improved 0.2 years to 7.4 years, and EP has improved 0.5 years to 8.3 years.

In this paper, we investigate the performance of the direct sequence/spread spectrum multiple access (DS/SSMA) system using the Trellis coded modulation (TCM) technique in both multipath fading and multi-user channel environments. For this, an expression that represents the pairwise bit error probability of the system is derived. Unlike the existing results that were performed in a more restrictive condition considering only the multi-user effect, the effects of the multipath fading as well as the multi-user environments are compositely taken into account. In order to check the validity of our analysis, although not direct, computer simulations are carried out, and they show that our expression matches exactly with the previous work for which the TCM and the multipath effects were disregarded. Moreover, it is observed that the performance of the Trellis coded DS/SSMA system can be improved dramatically comparing to the uncoded QPSK system in the multipath fading and multi-user channel environments.

A physical-based aggregation method was suggested to estimate surface roughness, which adequately represents the spatial heterogeneity of vegetation factors, from land cover property obtained from the remote sensing data. For the sensitivity analysis of surface roughness, the peak flow, peak time, and total volume were simulated by the NWS-PC. Effects of surface roughness estimated by three different integration methods (predominant, arithmetic mean, and aggregation approach) on the conceptual rainfall-runoff model parameters was analyzed. In the preliminary sensitivity test to surface roughness, the peak time had 10% variation and total volume had 2% variation. The peak time increased with surface roughness. A physical-based aggregation method was better than the existing method in the Soyanggang Dam basin for the results of STDEV, RMSE, NSE, and PME, but difference between them were small. The parameters related on the total baseflow were changed significantly with change of the surface roughness.
Due to environmental, economical and the other limitations, it has been more difficult to construct new large hydraulic structure such as dam. For this reason, it has been tried to use small hydraulic structure such as washland as alternative of hydraulic facility. Because the flood control effect of small hydraulic structure are affected by runoff volume, hydrograph, storage capacity and weir crest elevation, and design frequency must be predetermined for the design of the hydraulic structure. Multiple washlands will be required to satisfy enough peak reduction effect so that considering washlands as a network, rather than individually, are critical to analysis of flood reduction effect. In this study, new index for determination of optimal location for washlands is presented and the existing model for this determination is modified by adopting the new index. Developed new model is applied to Ansung river basin for examination and the new model shows its' applicability as a decision making criteria for the determination of optimal location for washlands.

In this study, a distributed rainfall-runoff model, K-DRUM, based on physical kinematic wave was developed to simulate temporal and spatial distribution of flood discharge considering grid rainfall and grid based GIS hydrological parameters. The developed model can simulate temporal and spatial distribution of surface flow and sub-surface flow during flood period, and input parameters of ASCII format as pre-process can be extracted using ArcView. Output results of ASCII format as post-process can be created to express distribution of discharge in the watershed using GIS and express discharge as animation using TecPlot. an auto calibration method for initial soil moisture conditions that have an effect on discharge in the physics based K-DRUM was additionally developed. The baseflow for Namgang Dam Watershed was analysed to review the applicability of the developed auto calibration method. The accuracy of discharge analysis for application of the method was evaluated using RMSE and NRMSE. Problems in running time and inaccuracy setting using the existing trial and error method were solved by applying an auto calibration method in setting initial soil moisture conditions of K-DRUM.

This paper focuses on the attempt to manual application for optimization structural scale of stone and Gabion at the closing gap of sea dike. The manual was developed through hydraulic model experiment that measured the critical velocity of sill-crest, bottom protection and dam-face at the final closure of Saemangeum sea dike, and through the comparison and verification of critical velocity for each scale calculated by existing empirical formula. Also, the critical velocity when rocks are used together with gabion is measured to add to the manual, which is an initial attempt that had not been executed before. The manual proposes the appropriate structural scale according to the measured critical velocity per day during the final closure period of Saemangeum sea dike, and its application was appraised highly after the completion of the final closing.

The Nakdong River, which lies in a monsoon climate zone with warm rainy summers and cold dry winters, is a typical ecosystem showing the attributes of a regulated river. In 2003, the total annual rainfall (1,805 mm) was higher than the average of the past nine years from 1994 to 2002 (1,250 mm). In September a powerful typhoon, Maemi, caused a big impact on the limnology of the river for over two months. Among the limnological variables, turbidity in 2003 (37.4 ${\pm}$ 94.1 NTU, n = 54) was higher than the annual average for ten years (18.5 ${\pm}$ 2.3 NTU, n = 486) in the lower part of the river (Mulgum: RK 28). Furthermore, physical disturbance (e.g. stream bank erosion within channel) in the upstream of the Imha Dam (RK ca. 350; river distance in kilometer from the estuary barrage) in the upper part of the river was a source of high turbidity, and impacted on the limnological dynamics along a 350 km section of the middle to lower part of the river. After the typhoon, high turbidity persisted more than two months in the late autumn from September to November in 2003. Flow regulation and the extended duration of turbid water are superimposed on the template of existing main channel hydroecology, which may cause spatial changes in the population dynamics of plankton in the river.

PURPOSES : This study proposes standards for rural access road pavement section and thickness design considering existing access road construction conditions; the study also proposes a complementary policy that can be used for design convenience. METHODS : Various literature review and case studies had been performed in terms of rural access road section and thickness design, both domestically and internationally, and this was followed by domestic rural access road field surveys. KPRP and KENLAYER were used to analyze the commonalities and predict the remaining life. Data on real cost is used to select an appropriate construction method through economic analysis. RESULTS : The economic efficiency of concrete pavement ($15{\times}15$) was the highest in terms of economic efficiency of performance life and traffic volume. In the case of asphalt pavement, it is considered that the most economical method is to implement micro-surfacing method four times as a preventive maintenance method (once every 10 years and 4.5 years for asphalt concrete pavement and MS construction method, respectively). Repairable asphalt pavement is advantageous for areas where heavy vehicles are expected to pass. In the case of other general areas, it is considered economical to place concrete ($15{\times}15$) pavement. However, as analytical results on its performance life are unavailable, it is to be considered for study in the future. CONCLUSIONS : This study proposed interim design guidelines based on various domestic and international design guidelines and case studies. However, in order to develop the final design criteria applicable to the field, it is necessary to (a) estimate the bearing capacity of the lower level of the pavement at various sites, (b) estimate the daily traffic volume, (c) implement advanced low-cost pavement technologies, and (d) propose maintenance standards and techniques for long-term performance.
Since the development of water resources is getting more difficult than ever before because of human-sociological condition, it would be necessary to develop a practically applicable technique for the management of water resources based on demand-side concept that could reduce unusable release for more effective and appropriate allocation of limited water resources. The objective of the study is to develop an optimal reservoir system operation model for water supply and energy augmentation by the combination of water budget analysis method in downstream area by MIP technique. The applicable study of the developed model was carried out and water supply capability of Nakdong river basin was re-evaluated by the developed model. The model has been found successful to guarantee appropriate water supply to the basin by means of deficit-supply management method and also turned out to be more practical tool for an optimal reservoir system operation model than other existing models.
The objectives of this study are to develop a state-space form of stochastic dynamic storage function routing model and to test the model performance for real-time flow forecast. The selected study area is the main Han River starting from Paldang Dam site to Indogyo station and the 13 flood events occurred from 1987 to 1998 are selected for computing model parameters and testing the model performance. It was shown that the optimal model parameters are quite different depending on Hood events, but the values used on field work also give reasonable results in this study area. It is also obvious that the model performance from the stochastic-dynamic model developed in this study gives more accurate and reliable results than that from the existing deterministic model. Analysis for allowable forecast lead time leads that under the current time step the reasonable predicted downstream flows in 5 hours time advance are obtained from the stochastic dynamic model on relatively less lateral inflow event in the study area.
