Optical measurements have been used to study the biaxial tensile strain in heteroeptaxial ZnTe epilayers on the (100) GaAs substrate by hot wall epitaxy (HWE) with Zn reservoir. It is effect on the low-temperature photoluminescence spectrum of the material. Optimum growth condition has been determined by a four-crystal rocking curve (FCRC) and a low temperature photoluminescence measurement (PL). It was found that Zn partial pressure from Zn reservoir has a strong influence on the quality of grown films. Under the determined optimum growth condition, ZnTe epitaxial films with thickness of 0.72~24.8$\mu\textrm{m}$ were grown for studying the effect of the thickness on crystalline quality. The PL and FCRC results indicated that the quality of ZnTe films becomes higher rapidly with increase of thickness up to 6$\mu\textrm{m}$. The best value of the FWHM of the four crystal rocking curve, 66 arcsec, was obtained on the film with 12$\mu\textrm{m}$ in thickness. The PL spectrum shows the splitted strong free exciton emissions and very weak deep band emissions. These results show the high quality of films.

ZnO thin films were grown on porous silicon (PS) by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy (PA-MBE). The optical properties of the ZnO thin films grown on PS were studied using room-temperature, low-temperature, and temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL). The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the near-band-edge emission (NBE) from the ZnO thin films was 98 meV, which was much smaller than that of ZnO thin films grown on a Si substrate. This value was even smaller than that of ZnO thin films grown on a sapphire substrate. The Huang-Rhys factor S associated with the free exciton (FX) emission from the ZnO thin films was found to be 0.124. The Eg(0) value obtained from the fitting was 3.37 eV, with ${\alpha}=3.3{\times}10^{-2}eV/K$ and ${\beta}=8.6{\times}10^3K$. The low- and high-temperature activation energies were 9 and 28 meV, respectively. The exciton radiative lifetime of the ZnO thin films showed a non-linear behavior, which was established using a quadratic equation.
In order to achieve white emission from organic light emitting devices (OLEDs), five distinct structures were fabricated and tested. The white emission was obtained using two different color-emitting materials (yellow from rubrene-doped $Alq_3$ and blue from DPVBi) with or without a carrier-blocking layer. For enhancing the red emission, two types of devices with three-color emitting materials were fabricated. The white emission, close to the CIE coordinate of (0.3,0.3), was achieved by using two blocking layers as well that as without a blocking layer. This paper covers the subject of controlling the location of exciton recombination zone. It has been found that there is a trade-off in that the devices with three color emitting layers do not show as much luminescence efficiency compared to those with two color emitting layers, but rather, show distinct red emission in the resultant emission spectra. The highest power efficiency was measured to be 1.15lm/W at 2,000 $cd/m^2$ for a structure with two color-emitting layers.
The stoichiometric mix of evaporating materials for he CuInS₂ single crystal thin films was prepared. To obtain the single crystal thin films, CuINS₂ mixed crystal was deposited on etched semi-insulator GaAs(100) substrate by the hot wall epitaxy(HWE) system. The source and substrate temperature were 640℃ and 430℃, respectively and the thickness of the single crystal thin films was 2 ㎛. The crystalline structure of single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence and double crystal X-ray diffraction(DCXD). The carrier density and mobility deduced from Hall data are 9.64x10/sup 22//㎥ and 2.95x10/sup -2/ ㎡/V·s, respectively at 293 K. he optical energy gap was found to be 1.53 eV at room temperature. From the photocurrent spectrum obtained by illuminating perpendicular light on the c-axis of the thin film, we have found that the values of spin orbit coupling splitting ΔSo and the crystal field splitting ΔCr were 0.0211 eV and 0.0045 eV at 10K, respectively. From PL peaks measured at 10K, were can assign the 807.7 nm (1.5350 eV) peak to E/sub x/ peak of the free exciton emission, the 810.3 nm(1.5301 eV) peak to I₂ peak of donar-bound exciton emission and the 815.6 nm(1.5201 eV) peak to I₁ peak of acceptor-bound excition emission. In addition, the peak observed at 862.0 nm(1.4383 eV) was analyzed to be PL peak due to donor-acceptor pair(DAP).

The ZnSe epilayers were grown on the GaAs substrate by hot wall epitaxy. After the ZnSe epilayers treated in the vacuum-, Zn-, and Se-atmosphere, respectively, the defects of the epilayer were investigated by means of the low-temperature photoluminescence measurement. The dominant peaks at 2.7988 eV and 2.7937 eV obtained from the PL spectrum of the as-grown ZnSe epilayer were found to be consistent with the upper and the lower polariton peak of the exciton, $I_2$ ($D^{\circ}$, X), bounded to the neutral donor associated with the Se-vacancy. This donor-impurity binding energy was calculated to be 25.3 meV. The exciton peak, $I_1^d$, at 2.7812 eV was confirmed to be bound to the neutral acceptor corresponded with the Zn-vacancy. The $I_1^d$ peak was dominantly observed in the ZnSe/GaAs:Se epilayer treated in the Se-atmosphere. This Se-atmosphere treatment may convert the ZnSe/GaAs:Se epilayer into the p-type. The SA peak was found to be related to a complex donor like a $(V_{Se}-V_{Zn})-V_{Zn}$.

$Zn_{1-x}Cd_xO$ thin films were grown on (0001) sapphire substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The energy bandgap of $Zn_{1-x}Cd_xO$ films decreases withincreasing Cd content. An increase of Cd content also leads to the emission broadening and degraded crystallinity. The absorption edge and ultraviolet emission peak shift to lower energy from 3.357 eV to 3.295 eV and 3.338 eV to 3.157 eV, respectively, with increasing Cd content from 0.3% to 3%. The Stokes' shift between the absorption and emission indicates the increase of localization of exciton with Cd content.

The research is the structural and optical characteristics of the Cadmium Sulfide(CdS) film, nanowires and nanobelts grown on the $Al_2O_3$ substrate using the vapor phase epitaxy method. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) were used to identify the shape of the surface of the nanostructures and x-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to evaluate the structural characterisitcs. As a result, the XRD was confirmed the CdS peak and the substrate peak and TEM showed single crystals with wurtzite hexagonal structure on the nanostructures. As for the optical characteristic of the nanostructures, photoluminescence(PL) and micro-raman spectrum were measured. The PL measurements confirmed the emission peak related bound exciton to neutral donor($D^0X$) peak and free exciton(FX) peak. The micro-raman spectrum showed that the peak of the nanostructures were similar to the pure crystalline CdS peak and each peak were overtone of LO phonon of the hexagonal CdS of the longitudinal optical(LO) phonon mode. Therefore, it is confirmed that the CdS nanostructures grown in this research have superior crystallinity.
The ZnSe sample grown by chemical bath deposition (CBD) method were annealed in Ar gas at $45^{\circ}C$. Using extrapolation method of X-ray diffraction pattern, it was found to have zinc blend structure whose lattice parameter $a_o$ was $5.6687\;{\AA}$. From Hall effect, the mobility was likely to be decreased by impurity scattering at temperature range from 10 K to 150 K and by lattice scattering at temperature range from 150 K to 293 K. The band gap given by the transmission edge changed from $2.700{\underline{5}}\;eV$ at 293 K to $2.873{\underline{9}}\;eV$ at 10 K. Comparing photocurrent peak position with transmission edge, we could find that photocurrent peaks due to excition electrons from valence band, ${\Gamma}_8$ and ${\Gamma}_7$ and to conduction band ${\Gamma}_6$ were observed at photocurrent spectrum. From the photocurrent spectra by illumination of polarized light on the ZnSe thin film, we have found that values of spin orbit coupling splitting ${\Delta}so$ is $0.098{\underline{1}}\;eV$. From the PL spectra at 10K, the peaks corresponding to free bound excitons and D-A pair and a broad emission band due to SA is identified. The binding energy of the free excitons are determined to be $0.061{\underline{2}}\;eV$ and the dissipation energy of the donor -bound exciton and acceptor-bound exciton to be $0.017{\underline{2}}\;eV$, $0.031{\underline{0}}\;eV$, respectively.

The single crystals of $Mg_{0.15}Zn_{0.85}Te$ and $Mg_{0.15}Zn_{0.85}Te:Co^{2+}$(0.001%) were grown by vertical Bridgman method. Optical absorption properties of this compound were studied. As a result of the optical absorption spectra of $Mg_{0.15}Zn_{0.85}Te$, absorption peaks were related to exciton and the exciton level redshifts with increasing temperature, and temperature coefficient given to the value of $-5.8{\times}10^{-4}\;eV/K$ for the temperature range above 100 K. in the $Mg_{0.15}Zn_{0.85}Te:Co^{2+}$(0.001%) single crystal, the intracenter transitions due to $Co^{2+}$ ions were detected for $A-band:^4A_2(^4F) {\to}^4T_1(^4F),\; B-band:\; ^4A_2(^4F){\to}^4T_1(^4P)$, and the charge transfer transition near the absorption edge was observed in the wavelength range of 500 to 800 nm. According to the crystal field theory and Lucovsky formula, the crystal field parameter, Racah parameter and charge transfer energy were determined.
