어린이와 청소년의 비알콜성음료 섭취에 따른 인공감미료 섭취량 평가 (Assessment of Estimated Daily Intakes of Artificial Sweeteners from Non-alcoholic Beverages in Children and Adolescents)

  • 본 연구는 음료 651건 및 액상차 87건의 인공감미료 실측치(아스파탐, 아세설팜칼륨 및 수크랄로스)와 제4기 국민건강 영양조사 중 영양조사의 섭취량을 이용하여 단위 체중당 비알콜성음료 섭취량이 가장 높았던 1~19세의 어린이 및 청소년을 대상으로 비알콜성음료를 통한 인공감미료의 추정식이섭취량(estimated daily intake, EDI)을 산출하여 평가하였다. 비알콜성음료의 섭취량은 어린이 및 청소년 6,082명 전체의 비알콜성음료의 평균소비자(average consumer)와 극단소비자(extreme consumer)의 섭취량을 파악하기 위하여 평균, 95 percentile 및 분포를 적용한 경우(시나리오 I)와 비알콜성음료를 섭취한 어린이와 청소년 1,074명의 섭취량 평균, 95 percentile 및 분포를 적용한 경우(시나리오 II)로 나누어 살펴보았다. 음료에 함유된 인공감미료의 건강 위해성 평가는 추정식이섭취량과 FAO/WHO에서 설정한 일일섭취허용량(acceptable daily intake, ADI)인 아스파탐 40 mg/kg bw/day, 아세설팜칼륨 15 mg/kg bw/day, 수크랄로스 15 mg/kg bw/day 값을 비교하여 %ADI로 평가를 하였다. 인공감미료의 인체노출량 계산에 필요한 몸무게는 국민건강영양조사 검진조사 자료를 이용하였다. 이때 위해도 평가방법은 평균과 95th percentile을 이용하는 단일값평가와 각 변수의 확률밀도함수(probabilistic density functions, PDFs)를 이용한 Monte Carlo simulation을 실시하여 확률평가를 하였다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 인공감미료는 아스파탐, 아세설탐칼륨, 수크랄로스가 평균 $3.21{\pm}28.36mg/kg$(ND~342.00 mg/kg, 검출률 1.4%), $1.94{\pm}12.55mg/kg$(ND~160.00 mg/kg, 검출률 4.5%), $6.18{\pm}23.27mg/kg$(ND~290.00 mg/kg, 검출률 10.8%) 함유되어 있었다. 또한 비알콜성음료에 함유된 인공감미료 중 아스파탐은 Min Extreme 분포, 아세설팜칼륨은 Logistic 분포, 수크랄로스는 Student's t 분포를 나타냈다. 비알콜성음료 섭취량은 어린이와 청소년 전체를 대상으로 한 시나리오 I에서는 대부분 Logistic 분포를 나타내었으나, 특히 소비자 집단만을 고려한 시나리오 II 경우에는 왼쪽으로 기울어진 Max Extreme 분포가 되었다. 체중은 시나리오 I이 Logistic 분포, 시나리오 II는 Beta 분포를 나타내었다. 그리고 시나리오 I에서 확률평가한 아스파탐, 아세설팜칼륨, 수크랄로스의 평균 추정식이섭취량은 각각 0.09, 0.01, 0.04 mg/kg bw/day였으며, 95th percentile 추정식이섭취량은 각각 0.30, 0.02, 0.13 mg/kg bw/day였다. 확률평가한 아스파탐, 아세설팜칼륨, 수크랄로스의 평균 %ADI는 각각 0.22, 0.04, 0.24이었고, 확률평가한 95th percentile %ADI는 각각 0.75, 0.13, 0.83으로 안전한 수준이었다. 시나리오 II에서 확률평가한 아스파탐, 아세설팜칼륨, 수크랄로스의 평균 추정식이섭취량은 각각 0.52, 0.03, 0.22 mg/kg bw/day였으며, 95th percentile 추정식이섭취량은 각각 1.80, 0.12, 0.75 mg/kg bw/day였다. 확률평가한 아스파탐, 아세설팜칼륨, 수크랄로스의 평균 %ADI는 각각 1.32, 0.22, 1.44였고, 확률평가한 95th percentile %ADI는 4.52, 0.80, 5.06으로 나타났다. 즉 비알콜성음료 섭취를 통한 인공감미료 중 아스파탐, 아세설팜칼륨, 수크랄로스의 노출수준은 일일섭취허용량(ADI)을 초과하는 인구집단은 없는 것으로 나타났으며, 시나리오 I II에서 아스파탐, 아세설팜칼륨, 수크랄로스의 평균 및 95th percentile %ADI는 모두 5.06이내로 낮은 수준이었다. 한편 섭취자군 중 인공감미료에서 검출률이 가장 높았던 수크랄로스의 경우 %ADI가 10 이상일 확률이 2.2%였다.

Dietary sugar intake and dietary behaviors in Korea: a pooled study of 2,599 children and adolescents aged 9-14 years

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Dietary sugar intake, particularly added sugar and sugar-sweetened beverages, has received worldwide attention recently. Investigation of dietary behaviors may facilitate understanding of dietary sugar intakes of children and adolescents. However, the relationship between dietary sugar intake and dietary behaviors in the Korean population has not been investigated. Thus, this study aimed to estimate dietary sugar intake and food sources according to sex as well as examine the relationship of dietary sugar intake with frequent snacking and dietary patterns among Korean children and adolescents. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We pooled data from five studies involving Korean children and adolescents conducted from 2002 to 2011. A total of 2,599 subjects aged 9-14 years were included in this study. Each subject completed more than 3 days of dietary records. RESULTS: Mean daily total sugar intake was 46.6 g for boys and 54.3 g for girls. Compared with boys, girls showed higher sugar intakes from fruits (7.5 g for boys and 8.8 g for girls; P = 0.0081) and processed foods (27.9 g for boys and 34.9 g for girls; P < 0.0001). On average, 95.4% of boys and 98.8% of girls consumed snacks during the study period, and total sugar intake showed a significantly increasing trend with increasing energy intake from snacks (P < 0.0001 for both sexes). Two dietary patterns were identified by cluster analysis: Traditional and Westernized patterns. Total sugar intake was higher in the Westernized pattern (56.2 g for boys and 57.2 g for girls) than in the Traditional pattern (46.5 g for boys and 46.3 g for girls). CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that multilateral and practical development of a nutrition education and intervention program that considers dietary behaviors as well as absolute sugar intake is required to prevent excessive sugar intake in Korean children and adolescents.

Use of N-alkanes to Estimate Intake and Digestibility by Beef Steers

  • The objective of the study was to evaluate the use of n-alkanes to estimate DM intake and digestibility by beef cattle. Six steers were blocked (3 blocks, 2 animals/block) according to the body weight (279${\pm}$19 kg) and randomly allotted within blocks to two diets (3 steers/diet). A second trial was conducted with the same animals (321${\pm}$18 kg) after 36 days (d), using a switch back design. The diets consisted of two types of chopped sun-cured hay, alfalfa (Medicago sativa L) hay, or fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb) and alfalfa mixture, which were fed in equal amounts to steers. Animals were dosed with $C_{32}$ and $C_{36}$ alkanes, employing an intra-ruminal controlled-release device at the beginning of each trial. Hay intake per animal was measured from d 6 to 12 and sub samples were taken for chemical analysis. Rectal samples of feces were taken from each animal once/daily from d 8 to 14, freeze dried, and ground prior to alkane analysis. Alkanes were extracted from ground hay and feces. Feed intake was calculated from the dose rate of $C_{32}$ alkane and, the herbage and fecal concentrations of adjacent odd ($C_{33}$ or $C_{31}$) and even ($C_{32}$) chain length alkanes. Crude Protein, NDF, ADF, ash concentrations and In vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) were 17.7, 42.2, 28.4, 7.9 and 71.7 for alfalfa, and 12.4, 56.5, 30.4, 6.9 and 69.1% for fescue/alfalfa mixture, respectively. For both diets, intake estimated from $C_{33}$:$C_{32}$ ratio was not different from the measured intake, but intake estimated from $C_{31}$:$C_{32}$ ratio was lower (p<0.05), than the measured intake for both diets. The average estimated forage intake from $C_{33}$:$C_{32}$ ratio was 4.86 and 0.69% below than the measured intake for alfalfa and, fescue/alfalfa mixed diets, respectively. The respective estimates with $C_{31}$:$C_{32}$ ratio were 9.59 and 11.33% below than the measured intake. According to these results, alkane $C_{33}$:$C_{32}$ ratio is better than alkane $C_{31}$:$C_{32}$ ratio for the estimation of intake by beef steers.

여대생에서 비타민 A 섭취 현황 및 급원식품 조사 (Vitamin A Intakes and Food Sources of Vitamin A in Female University Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate the daily intake of vitamin A in Korean female university students. Vitamin A intake was estimated using an inconsecutive 3-day dietary intake survey from 481 young women. Vitamin A intake values were calculated based on the data in USDA database. Average age, height, and weight of the subjects were 20.05 years, 162.13 cm and 54.38 kg, respectively. The subject's average intake of energy was 1645.67 kcal. The mean vitamin A, retinol and ${\beta}$ carotene intakes were $908.35{\pm}863.18$ ug retinol equivalent/day, $199.19{\pm}166.00$ ug/day and $3872.59{\pm}4972.17$ ug/day, respectively. The 21.83% of the subjects consumed less than the Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) for vitamin A. And subjects consumed 141.69% of the Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) for vitamin A. Food groups consumed with high vitamin A content in our subjects included vegetables (423.96 ug RE/day), potato and starches (213.64 ug RE/day), cereals (62.60 ug RE/day), eggs (55.17 ug RE/day) and milks (53.45 ug RE/day). The major food sources of vitamin A were sweet potato, carrot, spinach, egg, and cereal, and the top 30 foods provided 89.57% of total vitamin A. Also animal-derived food provided 9.65% of the vitamin A intake from the top 30 foods. In conclusion, judging from RNI, the vitamin A intake of the Korean female university students in this study was generally adequate. The result of our study may be used as a basis for follow-up studies of vitamin A intake like assessment of vitamin A nutritional status or evaluation of carotenoid food sources in Korean young women.

고령인구 비율이 높은 지역 성인 및 노인의 계절별 영양소 섭취실태 (Seasonal Variation of Nutritional Intake and Quality in Adults in Longevity Areas)

  • 고령인구 비율이 높은 지역에 거주하는 성인 469명을 대상으로 24시간 회상법을 통해 1년 간 4계절의 식이섭취 조사를 하여 영양 섭취 상태를 양ㆍ질의 평가와 함께 계절적인 차이를 살펴본 결과 다음과 같았다. 조사 대상자의 연평균 1일 열량 섭취량(%RDA)은 1313.3$\pm$334.7 ㎉(72.0%)이며, 단백질은 47.3$\pm$17.0 g(82.2%)으로 남녀간에 권장량 대비 백분율에 유의한 차이가 없었다. 지방과 탄수화물, 식이 섬유소는 각각 20.2$\pm$12.8 g, 228.0$\pm$48.3 g, 12.8$\pm$4.5 g을 섭취하였으며, 남녀간에 유의적인 차이가 있었다. 비타민 및 무기질의 섭취량은 대부분 권장량 수준에 못 미쳤으며, 특히 칼슘, 비타민 B$_2$, 비타민 E, 비타민 D의 섭취는 권장량의 약 50%로 섭취율이 매우 낮았다. 성별에 따라서는 여성이 남성보다 비타민 및 무기질의 섭취량이 낮았으며, 계절별로는 대부분의 비타민과 무기질의 섭취율이 봄에 높았는데 예외적으로 비타민 C는 가을과 겨울에 섭취율이 높았다. 콜레스테롤의 섭취량은 남녀 각각 151.7$\pm$162.0 mg, 124.3$\pm$147.7 mg 이었으며 PUFA : MUFA : SFA의 비율은 1.0 : 1.3 : 1.2이었다. 탄수화물, 단백질, 지방 구성비율(CPF)은 72.7 : 14.4 : 12.9로, 성별에 따라서 탄수화물 에너지 구성비는 여자가 높았으며, 단백질 에너지 구성비는 남자가 높았다. 계절에 따라서는 남녀 모두 봄에 탄수화물 에너지 구성비율이 낮은 반면 단백질 에너지의 구성비율은 높았다. 대부분의 영양소 적정도는 0.8∼0.6의 범위였으나 칼슘, 비타민 A, 비타민 B$_2$, 비타민 E의 경우 0.5내외의 비율을 나타내었다. 성별에 따라서 단백질을 제외한 모든 영양소에서 여자보다 남자가 적정도에서 유의적으로 높았다. 평균 적정도는 0.66으로 다른 계절에 비해 남자는 봄에 높았고, 여자는 봄과 여름에 유의적으로 높았다. 영양의 질적 지수(INQ)는 칼슘, 비타민 A, 비타민 B$_2$, 비타민 E에서 1을 하회하였으며, 단백질을 제외한 모든 영양소에서 남자가 여자보다 질적 지수가 유의적으로 높았다. 계절에 따른 질적 지수는 남녀 모두 비타민 A와 나이아신은 봄에 높은 반면 비타민 C는 가을과 겨울에 유의적으로 높았다. 이와 같은 연구 결과로 볼 때 고령인구 비율이 높은 지역의 주민들은 전체적인 영양소 섭취 상태는 대부분의 영양소에서 권장량에 미달하여 양적으로 매우 부족한 실정이나, 질적인 영양섭취 평가 즉 영양소 적정도 및 평균 적정도, 영양의 질적 지수는 칼슘, 비타민 A, 비타민 B$_2$, 비타민 E를 제외하고 적절한 상태를 보였다. 또한 남녀를 비교할 때 여성이 남성보다 양적 질적 영양소 섭취 평가에서 낮은 상태를 보였다. 계절적으로는 다른 계절에 비해 봄에 영양소 섭취 상태가 좋았고 겨울에 불량한 것으로 나타나 본 연구 지역 주민들은 계절에 따라 영양소 섭취에 대해 영향을 받고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 전체적으로 열량 및 영양소 섭취량의 증가와 함께 질적으로 부족한 영양소의 섭취량을 증가시키고, 농촌의 특성을 고려하여 계절 식품을 잘 활용할 수 있도록 적절한 식품의 선택과 조리 방법에 대한 교육이 이루어져야 하며, 이러한 영양교육은 상대적으로 영양상태가 취약한 여성에게 우선적으로 실시되어야 하겠다. 그리고 앞으로 미량영양소의 정확한 평가를 위해 더 많은 식품성분 데이터베이스를 구축하고 보완하는 작업이 이루어져야 하겠다.

한강수계의 농업용수 공급량 조사방법의 개발 (Methodology for Estimating Agricultural Water Supply in the Han River Basin)

  • 본 연구는 수계규모에서 과거의 수원공 운영자료를 이용하여 농업용 저수지, 취입보 및 관정 등으로부터 논 관개지구에 공급된 농업용수 공급량의 조사방법을 개발하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 농업용 저수지에 의해 공급된 관개량은 일별 혹은 순별 저수율 자료와 DIROM 모형을 이용하여 추정하였으며, 일별 양수량은 연간 총양수량으로부터 일별 양수패턴을 적용하여 산정하였다. 관정에 의해 취수된 일별 공급량은 논벼의 조용수량과 관정의 설계유량을 고려하여 계산하였으며, 취입보의 일별 공급량은 관개지구의 조용수량, 하천 유량 및 설계취수량 중에서 최소 유량으로부터 구하였다. 1993~1997년의 조사 기간동안에 한강수계에서 공급된 농업용수는 $569백만\;\textrm{m}^3/년부터\;709백만\;\textrm{m}^3/년$의 범위를 보였으며, 5개년 평균 공급량은 $640백만\;\textrm{m}^3/년$이었다.

경북 성주지역 장수노인의 영양상태(I) -영양섭취상태- (Nutritional Status of the Long-lived Elderly People in Kyungpook Sung-Ju Area(I) -Estimation of Nutrients Intakes-)

  • The purposes of this study were to estimate nutritional intakes of the long-lived elderly and to obtain the data for establishing dietary guidelines that may be recommended for the general population for the sake of longevity. The subjects of the study were 300 elederly people of age over 85 years living in Kyungpook Sung-Ju area who had no problem in daily living. Four times of food consumption survey were carried out seasonally by the repeated 24-hr recall method for one year. Mean daily energy intakes and RDA percentage of energy intakes of the male and female subjects were estimated as 1222 kcal(67.9%) and 1047 kcal(65.4%) respectively. Mean daily intakes of nutrients were estimated as 38.3g for protein, 287mg for calcium, 5.8mg for iron, 314R.E. for vitamin A, 0.6mg for vitamin B1 and 0.43mg for vitamin B2 The mean RDA percentages of nutrients intake were 64.4% and 59.8% for protein in male and female, 39.8% for Ca, 48.3% for Fe, 44.9% for vitamin A, 60% for vitamin B1, and 35.8% for B2. The average PFC ratio of energy-yielding nutrients throughout the year in male and female were 15.1 : 15.2 : 69.7 and 13.8 : 13.2 : 73.0 respectively. The mean daily intakes of energy and most of nutreints were significantly high in winter season. The contribution of plant food sources to nutrient intakes were over 60% for protein and fat, 50% for calcium, and 70% for iron. Long-lived elderly people an Sung-Ju, Kyungpook showed considerably smaller physiques compared to the avergae Korean elderly, however their average BMI fell in normal range. The subjects were consuming much less energy and nutrients compared to the present Korean RDA for the elderly over age 75. The subject showed relatively good health state in spite of low intakes of energy and nutrients. Therefore it seems to be necessary to establish a set of new RDA for the elderly over age 8.5.

식이섭취와 적혈구 Glutathione Reductase 활성도 및 소변배설에 근거한 일부 농촌여성들의 리보플라빈 영양상태에 관한 종단연구 (A Longitudinal Study on Seasonal Variation of Riboflavin Status of Rural Women : Dietary Intake, Erythrocyte Glutathione Reductase Activity Coefficient, and Urinary Riboflavin Excretion)

  • This study was undertaken to estimate seasonal variation of riboflavin status and investigate the relationship between riboflavin intake and its biochemical status in rural women. Dietary intake was measured by determining both 24hr recall method and conventient method. The riboflavin intake was also estimated by food frequency method. Ribofiavin biochemeical status was assessed by erythrocyte glutathione reductase activity coefficient(EGR AC) and urinary riboflavin excretion. All information was repeatly collected in three seasons ; farming season (June), harvest season(October), nonfarming season(February). Mean daily riboflavin intake was below RDA for Koreans in all seasons. Cereal & pulse, vegetable were the primary sources of riboflavin intake and provided above 60% of the total dietary riboflavin intake in all seasons. Riboflavin biochemical status was significantly different among seasons(EGR AC P<0.005, 24hr urinary riboflavin excretion P<0.05), and riboflavin biochemical deficiency was highest in February. The mean values of EGR AC revealed riboflavin deficiency in all seasons. However the mean values of urinary riboflavin excretion were within the normal range except 24hr urinary riboflavin excretion in February. On the basis of EGR AC criteria, 44.7% of subjects were at risk of deficiency in June, 44.7% in October, 81.6% in February. Result of individual riboflavin status assessed by EGR AC or 24hr urinary riboflavin excretion criteria was quite alike. Urinary riboflavin excretion per gram of creatinine underestimated riboflavin deficiency. Significant correlations were observed among biochemical indexes. It also appeared that riboflavin intake measured by food frequency method showed significant correlation with biochemical indexes, especially high correlation with EGR AC (P<0.001). The results indicated that the prevalence of riboflavin deficiency seems to be high among rural women in all seasons and the inadequacy of dietary riboflavin intake was reflected in the abnormalcy of riboflavin biochemical status assessed by EGR, AC. Therefore EGR AC seems to be more sensitive measure of impaired riboflavin status compared to urinary excretion.

학령전 아동의 Sodium 과 Potassium 의 식이량 및 대사에 관한 연구 (A Study on Sodium and Potassium Intakes and their Metabolisms of Preschool Children in Seoul Area)

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate the sodium and potassium intakes and their metabolisms of preschool children, and to evaluate the relationship between the blood pressure and the related variables. The subjects consisted of ninety-five preschool children aged two to six years (male 57, female 38). Twenty-four hour urines of subjects were collected for the measurements of their volume, sodium, potassium, creatinine and urea nitrogen. At the same time, the questionnaire was designed to assess the sodium and potassium intakes. The' results obtained were as follows; 1) The urinary excretion of sodium in 24 hours was 54.6$\pm$22.4mEq(orI255.8mg)and dietary sodium intake was 2147.0$\pm$518.4mg. The dietary sodium intake significantly increased with increasing age(p=O.0151). However, daily sodium intake per unit body surface area did not show significant difference by age. 2)The urinary excretion of potassium in 24 hours was 14.2$\pm$7.6 mEq (or 555.2mg) and the potassium intake was 1133.8mg. 3) The urinary excretions of creatinine and urea nitrogen were 240.2$\pm$126.2mg and 2946.7$\pm$1693.9mg, respectively. 4) The principal food SOUTce of sodium intake was the seasoning group, which con\ulcornertributed 49.9% to total sodium intake. 5) The main food source of potassium intake was milk and milk products; from which 28.6% of total potassium intake was obtained. 6) The blood pressure showed highly positive correlations with height, weight and body surface area (p$\leq$O.OOl) . In addition, the blood pressure was found to be correlat\ulcornered with urinary sodium excetion and dietary sodium intake (p$\leq$O.Ol).

Risk Assessment Diethylhexyl phthalate released from PVC Medical Devices based on Reproductive Toxicity

  • Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) was known as endocrine disrupter revealing reproductive / developmental toxicity. For a long time, risk due to DEHP released from PVC medical devices was became an issue for patient receiving blood bag, iv injection solution like saline and Hartman's solution. This study was conducted to suggest permissible intake level (PIL) of DEHP based on reproductive toxicity, to quantify daily intake level of DEHP can be exposed to patient through various medical treatment and to estimate risk values of DEHP released from PVC medical devices.(omitted)
