Forest disturbance sometime considered as a tool of management as it believed that mid level disturbance constructs better micro-climatic conditions which ultimately boost up the plant diversity. The effect of different levels of disturbance on species composition and regeneration is very important. Present attempt was carried out in a temperate evergreen oak forest which was under various degree of disturbance. The study area is one of the large ranges of oak forest in Garhwal Himalaya and compensating various types of daily needs of local people. On the basis of IVI values Quercus leucotrichophora holds first position in all the disturbance zones whereas Myrica esculenta upgraded it's rank in highly disturbed zone and showed less impacted species by disturbance. Berberis aristata and Eupatorium adenophorum in shrub layer and Anaphalis adnata and Bidens pilosa in herb layer were found as disturbance friendly species because they attained higher rank in highly disturbed zone whereas Caryopteris foetida was found disturbance-sensitive in shrub layer. The banj oak regenerated well under mid disturbance as compared to no and high degree of disturbance and a sharp downfall in the species diversity was recorded with increasing magnitude of disturbance. Density-diameter curves showed a reverse trend of lower density in higher girth classes. The results of the study should be useful for the forest management strategies.
An invasive disturbance species has caused harm to biodiversity and ecosystem. To address the issue, identifying the characteristics of a habitat for invasive disturbance species is considered for forest management. This study analyzed a status of plant species by field survey based on belt transect method in the capital areas and established a predictive model for invasive disturbance species by logistic regression. As results of the study, the number of herb, vine, and invasive disturbance species and a canopy cover of tree would decrease from the forest edge to core areas (p<0.001). The predictive model was derived with variables of altitude, Topographic Wetness Index, distance to forest edge, and canopy cover of tree. It can be useful in estimating the presence or absence of species and predicting its spatial distribution. Further studies are needed to identify the pathway of introduction, spread, and possibility of germination for understanding the status of invasive disturbance species in more depth.
Purpose: This study was done to compare sleep patterns, factors of sleep disturbance and sleep enhancement behaviors between sleep disturbance and non-sleep disturbance elderly patients. Method: The participants were 117 patients over 65 years old who were hospitalized at 5 general hospitals in Seoul. There were 83 patients in the good sleeper group and 34 in the poor sleeper group. The survey questionnaires included questions on general characteristics, sleep patterns, sleep disturbing factors, and sleep enhancement behaviors of the patients. Results: For sleep patterns and environmental factors of sleep disturbance, the poor sleepers was significantly higher than that of the good sleepers. Significant differences between good sleepers and poor sleepers were also found on the following variables: Environmental factors of sleep disturbance -'Sound of other patient's or care-giver's', 'Discomfort of bed, linen, pillow and patient's gown', 'Light in the room', 'Emergency situations', 'Temperature of patients rooms too hot or too cold'. The significant physical factor of sleep disturbance was 'Hard to breath even without moving' and for sleep enhancement behaviors: 'Use of ear plugs or eye covers' Conclusion: Consequently it is necessary to develop positive and differentiated programs for sleep enhancement for the inactive and poor sleeper among the elderly patients.
Increase in avian species richness is one of the important issues of urban biodiversity policies, since it can promote diverse ecosystem services such as seed dispersal, education, and pollination. However, though human disturbance can significantly affect avian species richness, there are limited studies on the way to reflect the dynamics of floating population. Therefore, this study analyzed the spatial relationship between avian species richness, floating population, and vegetation cover using telecommunications information to identify the areas that requiring targeted monitoring and restoration action. Bivariate Local Moran's I was applied to identify LISA cluster map that showing representative biotopes, which reflect significant spatial relationship between species richness and population distribution. Edge density and distribution of ndvi were identified for evaluating relative adequacy of selected biotopes to strengthen the robust biodiversity network. This study offers insight to consider human disturbance in spatial context using innovative big data to increase the effectiveness of urban biodiversity measures.
A crane is very important mechanical systems in industrial applications to move huge objects. Especially, in marine port terminals, it is used to place container boxes at desired position within given operating time. However, such system is faced with environmental disturbance such as wind from the sea, thus crane control system is required to cope with this nature. This paper proposed robust and adaptive control algorithm of a complicated 3D crane against the environmental disturbance. We simplify a mathematical design procedure to derive our control algorithm. We conduct real-time experiment using a crane simulator to evaluate its superiority and reliability.

This paper presents a boundary tracking control of an agent. To this end, it is shown that the boundary tracking problem can be reformulated into a robust control of uncertain double integrator first. Then, a disturbance observer (DOB) based control is proposed solving the robust control problem. Unlike the existing results in the literature, the proposed DOB based control requires only the local position measurement of the boundary (not the gradient information). The performance of the proposed control is demonstrated for two cases: the measurement of the boundary is given in a continuous or discrete manner. Finally, it is shown that the proposed control can be used for environmental monitoring as well by showing that the agent follows a level curve of real environmental monitoring data.
The World Health Organization(WHO) has recommended population of sleep disturbance as one of the environmental health indicators. But the percentage of respondents who felt highly sleep disturbed, that is, %HSD can???thave application to sleep disturbance from instantaneous noise. Therefore, this study has been carried out to present the technique for assessing sleep disturbance on instantaneous noise quantitatively. The study of sleep disturbance on night time instantaneous railway noise has been undertaken. Noise monitor has been in operation from 22 hours to 7 hours during 6 nights at 12 locations. To assess instantaneous noise induced sleep disturbance, it was decided to measure body movement by actiwatch. %motility was used as indicators of sleep disturbance. %motility is the expected value of probability of motility value during 7 epochs (105s) of any noise event. The measures of instantaneous motility have been related to measures of instantaneous railway noise events. The relationship shows that %motility is a good predictor for assessing sleep disturbance and Korean is more sensitive to noise than European although the railway noise have been considered in this study. This study can be extended to assessing long-term sleep disturbance and give a guideline far policy decision.
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affecting quality of sleep and sleep disturbance among inpatient. Methods. A descriptive correlational study was conducted Participants were 200 inpatient in a hospital located in B city. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Result. Hospitalized patient's score of sleeping quality was 38.26 on an overall scale of 60, indicating it to be higher than 'Medium (30 points). Almost hospitalized patient in this study suffer from sleep disturbances. As results of univariate analyses, Educational level, Departments, Why hospitalized, Insomnia / depression, Chronic Disease, Scale of pain, physical symptoms, environmental factors, emotional factors, and sleep promoting behavior, disturbed sleep among hospitalized. However, the result of stepwise multiple regression analysis identified that physical symptoms, environmental factors, emotional factors, sleep promoting behavior, and Why hospitalized disturbed sleep and were significant score of sleeping quality for hospitalized and these sleep disturbance factors accounted 46.8% of variance of sleeping quality among hospitalized. Conclusion. These findings suggest that hospitalized patients with poor sleep quality should have their health carefully screened for physical symptoms, environmental factors, emotional factors, sleep promoting behavior, and why hospitalized. In addition, we recommend the development of a nursing program for improving sleep quality.
We recently witnessed increasingly more natural disturbances on forested land. On the other hand, only limited number of nursery grown tree species are available for restoration projects. At the same time, so little on the disturbance resistance of species has been studied that a selection of right species for right site condition becomes very difficult. This study is a compilation of the site specificities and disturbance resistance of each species native to South Korea. Each species was surveyed for 11 items related to site specificities, and 12 items related to disturbance resistance including the resistance to snow damage. This study was conducted for 161 tree species from 44 families : 21 evergreen conifer species, 2 deciduous conifer species, 18 evergreen broad-leaved species, 118 deciduous broad-leaved species, and 2 monocotyledon species. This study suggests that native species in South Korea show resistance to all types of natural disturbances except drought.
