  • The purpose of the present study is to investigate syntactic development of Korean by analysing the spontaneous speech data. Thirty children(3, 5, and 7-year-old and 10 per each age group) and 10 adults are employed as subjects for this study. Speech data were recorded and transcribed in orthography. Transcribed data are analysed syntactically: sentence(simple vs complex) patterns and clause patterns(4 basic types according to the predicate) etc. The results are as follows: 1) simple sentences show higher frequency for the upper age groups, 2) complex sentences with conjunctive and embedded clauses show higher frequency for the upper age groups.

  • In this study, we consider the minimum ADM problem which is the fundamental problem for the cost-effective design of SONET ADM embedded in WDM ring networks. To minimize the number of SONET ADMs, efficient algorithms for the routing and wavelength assignment are needed. We propose a mathematical model based on the graph theory for the problem and propose a branch-and-price approach to solve the suggested model effectively within reasonable time. By exploiting the mathematical structure of ring networks, we developed polynomial time algorithms for column generation subroutine at branch-and-bound tree. In a computer simulation study, the suggested approach can find the optimal solution for sufficient size networks and shows better performance than the greedy heuristic method.

  • In this paper, we design circuits embedded in memory chip which perform memory testing algorithms using BIST scheme to reduce testing time and cost for testing. In order to implement circuits for MSCAN, Marching and checkerboard test algorithms, which have widely used in memory testing, we survey structure of the BIST circuits and describe each block of BIST circuits by using VHDL. Thereafter, We verify behavior of each VHDL coding block and extract BIST circuits for target testing algorithms by CAD tool for simulation and synthesis. Extracted circuits have very low area overhead.

  • In general, Harris detector is commonly used for finding salient points in watermarking systems using feature points. Harris detector is a kind of combined comer and edge detector which is based on neighboring image data distribution, therefore it has some limitation to find accurate salient points after watermark embedding or any kinds of digital attacks. In this paper, we have used cross reference points which use not data distribution but geometrical structure of a normalized image in order to avoid pointing error caused by the distortion of image data. After normalization, we find cross reference points and take inverse normalization of these points. Next, we construct a group of triangles using tessellation with inversely normalized cross reference points. The watermarks are affine transformed and transformed-watermarks are embedded into not normalized image but original one. Only locations of watermarks are determined on the normalized image. Therefore, we can reduce data loss of watermark which is caused by inverse normalization. As a result, we can detect watermarks with high correlation after several digital attacks.

  • A thin film thermoelectric cooler for COB direct assembly was proposed and the COB cooler structure was modeled by electrical equivalent circuit by using SPICE model of thermoelectric devices. The embedded cooler attached between the die chip and metal plate can offer the possibility of thin film active cooling for the COB direct assembly. We proposed a driving method of TEC by using pulse width modulation technique. The optimum power to the TEC is simulated by using a SPICE model of thermoelectric device and passive components representing thermal resistance and capacitance. The measured and simulated results offer the possibility of thin film active cooling for the COB direct assembly.

  • AGV flowpath layout design is one of the most important steps for efficient AGV systems design. Since it was formulated by Gaskins & Tanchoco (1987), a unidirectional AGV flowpath layout design problem has been tackled by many researchers. However, the solution methods were traded off between the solution quality and the computational time. In this paper, a tabu search technique is applied to obtain a good solution for a relatively large problem in reasonable computational time. Specifically, fast construction algorithm for feasible initial solutions, long-term memory structure and neighbor solutions generation are adapted to the problem characteristics and embedded in the tabu search algorithm. Also, sets of computational experiments show that the proposed tabu search algorithm outperforms to the Ko and Egbelu's algorithm (2003).

  • The fiber reinforced laminated composite structures are very susceptible to be damaged when they are impacted by foreign objects. To increase the impact resistance of the laminated composite structures, shape memory alloy(SMA) thin film is embedded in the structure. For the numerical impact analysis of SMA hybrid composite structures, SMA modeling tool is developed to consider pseudoelastic effect of SMAs. Moreover, the damage analysis is considered using failure criteria and a simple damage model for reasonable impact analysis. The numerical results are verified with the experimental ones. Impact analyses for composite plate with pre-strained SMAs are numerically performed and the damage areas are investigated.

  • It is widely recommended that teachers should actively mediate students' engagement with tools such as manipulative materials. This paper is to help to parse classroom life so that both social and psychological aspects are accounted for and coordinated. Building on the theory of affordances from ecological psychology and the activity theory from sociocultural perspectives, the main strategy of this paper is to view manipulative materials as simultaneously participating in social and psychological activity systems. Within these activity systems it is charted how both mathematical affordances related to the structure of mathematical concepts and ecological affordances related to socially situated classroom practices need to be considered by teachers in effective mediation of mathematical manipulatives. This paper has three major sections. The first section develops a theoretical extension of Gibson's theory of affordances from natural to social environments. The second section introduces mathematical and ecological affordances using empirical data from a grade two elementary school classroom. The third section illustrates the need of coordinating the two affordances as embedded in different activity systems.

  • In this paper, we present a strain-sensitive composite skin-like film made up of piezoresistive zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods embedded in a flexible poly(dimethylsiloxane) substrate, with added reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to facilitate connections between the nanorod clusters and increase strain sensitivity. Preparation of the composite is described in detail. Cyclic strain sensing tests are conducted. Experiments indicate that the resulting ZnO-PDMS/rGO composite film is strain-sensitive and thus capable of sensing cycling strain accurately. As such, it has the potential to be molded on to a structure (civil, mechanical, aerospace, or biological) in order to provide a strain sensing skin.

  • The main topic of this paper is how to structure information so that the view of the web, both within and across web pages, is dynamically customizable. We present an architecture that integrates Object-Oriented Databases with the World Wide Web to organize such dynamic structures. Different non, or the same user at different times, could have different views of the web. We discuss several architectural variants and implementation issues. Our chosen architecture provides high flexibility for a wide variety of applications, ranging from software development environments to the IO-web system.
