  • A physical model for reduction of Electromagnetic Interference(EMI) or its predecessors, Radio Noise, Electrical Noise, or Radio-Frequency-Interference(RFI), is a rapidly expanding digital technology. It covers the frequency spectrum from DC to about 3 GHz EMI is the poisoner which does not allow radio, TV, radar, navigation, and a lot of electrical, electro-mechanical, and electronic and communication devices, apparatus and systems to operate compatibly in a common frequency spectrum environment EMI can result in a jammed radio, heart pacer failures, navigation errors and many other either nuisance or catastrophic events. Therefore, it follows that this spectrum pollution problem has reached international levels of concern and must be dealt with m proportion to the safety and economic impact Involved.

A Study on Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Effectiveness of the Metal Powders and Nano Carbon black /Fiber Reinforced Epoxy composites (메탈 파우더와 나노 카본 블랙/섬유강화 복합재료의 전자파 차폐효과에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this research is to investigate the electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding characteristics of fiber reinforced composites. We fabricated glass and carbon fiber reinforced composites filled with metal powder and nano carbon black. The measurements of shielding effectiveness(SE) were carried out frequency range 300MHz - 1GHz for commercial purposes such as electric or telecommunication devices. The return loss and loss due to absorption were also measured as a function of frequency in the micro wave(300MHz-1GHz) region. It is observed that the SE of the composites is the frequency dependent, increase with the increases in filler loading. The Mg metal powder filled composite showed higher SE compared to that of carbon black. The Mg metal powder/epoxy composite was shown to exhibit up to 40dB of SE. The results indicates that the composite having higher filler loading can be used for the purpose of EMI shielding as well as for some microwave applications.

Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Effectiveness and Mechanical Properties of MWCNT-reinforced Polypropylene Nanocomposites (다중벽 탄소나노튜브강화 폴리프로필렌 나노복합재료의 전자파 차폐효과 및 기계적 특성)

  • In this work, the effect of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) on electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) and mechanical properties of MWCNT-reinforced polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites were investigated with varying MWCNT content from 1 to 10 wt%. Electric resistance was tested using a 4-point-probe electric resistivity tester. The EMI SE of the nanocomposites was evaluated by means of the reflection and adsorption methods. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were studied through the critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) measurement. The morphologies were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). From the results, it was found that the EMI SE was enhanced with increasing MWCNT content, which played a key factor to determine the EMI SE. The $K_{IC}$ value was increased with increasing MWCNT content, whereas the value decreased above 5 wt% MWCNT content. This was probably considered that the MWCNT entangled with each other in PP due to an excess of MWCNT.

  • EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) of the electrical railway must be ensured for safety of passenger. Maglev trains has not friction between the wheels and the rails because levitation by an permanent magnets, electromagnets and superconducting magnets etc. So, it is advantageous to maintain a high speed without noise and vibrations. In this paper, we investigated that the magnetic field of the before and after installation electromagnetic waves absorber in order to analyze the effects of electromagnetic waves. The theoretical analysis of the electromagnetic wave absorber was simulated using finite element method. The magnetic field properties of electromagnetic waves absorber were measured by EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) test receiver.

고주파 전자파의 해석 기법 및 응용

  • 본 논문에서는 전자파 해석에 관련된 기존의 해석 기법들을 간략하게 비교, 검토하고 GTD / UTD를 기본으로하여 고주파 해석 기법에 관련된 몇가지 문제들을 다룬다. 전자파 해석이란 전자파의 복사(radiation), 산란(scattering) 및 결합(coupling)에 관련된 문제의 해석을의미 한다. 전자파 해석은 여러 목적을위해 응용되고 있으며 EMC / EMI문제의 분석 및 대책 수립에도 응용될 수 있다. EMC / EMI 문제의 근원은 전자파의 간섭(interference) 현상이다. Emitting source로부터 복사(radiation)되는 간섭파는 여러 경로를 통해서 receptor로 coupling된다. 일반적으로 emitter와 receptor사이에는 여러 복잡한 구조물이 산란체로 작용하고 있으므로, emitter와 receptor사이의 직접경로(direct path)를 통한 coupling과 함께 구조물에 의한 전자파의 반사 및 회절을 통한 간접경로(indirect path)의 coupling도 고려되어야 한다. 따라서 EMC / EMI문제는 자유공간(free space)상에 있는 antenna 사이의 송수신 문제보다 매우 복잡하고 정확한 couplin의 계 산에 적지않은 어려움이 있다. EMC / EMI대책수립은 일차적으로 coupling path의 차단을 통해서 가능하므로 전자 파의 coupling path의 분석과 전자파의 복사 및 산란 mechanism에 대한 해석이 필수적이다.

  • High speed train system consumes much electric power during running, and generate much EMI (electromagnetic interference) by arc between the pantograph and the trolley line. In this paper, EMI was measured following EN50121-2, 'Railway applications. - Electromagnetic compatibility. (Emission of the whole railway system to the outside world)', from the running high-speed railway (KTX) at 300 km/h speed. Measured results exceed the limit values of EN50121-2 in low frequency band ($9\;kHz{\sim}150\;kHz$), but they did not exceed the limit values in other higher frequency band ($150\;kHz{\sim}1\;GHz$).

  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is defined as the interaction phenomena of electromagnetic waves scattered from a large structure or complex terrain. In this study, the propagation of linear wave is modeled with ray theory, direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC), and some classical theories on flat plates. The wave physics of reflection, refraction, and diffraction are simulated for the investigation of front and back scattering of the one-dimensional plane wave from a tower with ray theory and DSMC, respectively. The effect of rotating disk idealized from the real wind-turbine blades is modeled with a simplified version of the classical electromagnetic theory as well as DSMC based on the ray theory.

Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Efficiency Characteristics of Ammonia-treated Graphene Oxide (암모니아수 처리된 그래핀 옥사이드의 전자파 차폐효율 특성)

  • In this study, nitrogen doped graphene oxide (GO) was prepared using liquid phase ammonia treatment to improve its electrical properties. Also, the aminated GO was manufactured into a film format and the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding efficiency was measured to evaluate its electrical properties. The XPS result showed that the increase of liquid phase ammonia treatment concentration led to the increased nitrogen functional group on the GO surface. The measurement of EMI shielding efficiency reveals that EMI shielding efficiency of the liquid phase ammonia treated GO was better than that of non-treated GO. When GO was treated using the ammonia solution of 21% concentration, the EMI shielding efficiency increased by -5 dB at higher than 2950 MHz. These results were maybe due to the fact that nitrogen functional groups on GO help to improve the absorbance of electromagnetic waves via facile electron transfer.

  • Recently, LED is being used as various applications such as home lightings, work lightings and so on. EMI noise generated from LED driver have become a problem according to increase the use of LED. In this paper, Active EMI filter composed active and passive components is discribed as a method of solving a problem of EMI. The proposed filter is applied to the 160W LED load to verify performance experimentally. To compare the performance, We did an experiment using the proposed filter and the passive filter on the same 160W LED load and Driver System. As a result, The proposed Active EMI filter attenuated Conduction EMI noise better than any existing passive filter.

Protection Design for EMI and Indirect Lightning Effect for RS-170a Video Signal (RS-170a 영상 신호에 대한 EMI 및 낙뢰 간접영향 보호 설계)

  • In this paper, we introduce the design consideration of the EMI and lightning induced transient protection circuit for RS-170a video signal on the avionics equipment. Avionics equipment is subject to the risk of malfunction or physical damage due to indirect lightning effect from lightning strike or electromagnetic interference from external environment. So in order to protect the avionics equipment from these effects, we should analyze the effect of electromagnetic interference and lightning strike on aircraft and apply protection design for each avionics device, but protection circuit may cause signal distortion if signal level is low and frequency is high. In this paper, we introduce common protection design for EMI and indirect lightning effect, and consideration for minimize signal distortion caused by protection circuit for RS-170a. In addition, we show some example of improvements to the actual equipment design using consideration discussed in this paper.
