  • The irregularities in the guideways used in the Maglev transportation system that result from surface roughness and deflection of guideway have strong effects on the dynamic characteristics of Maglev vehicles, because the electromagnetic suspension of Maglev vehicles strongly interacts with the guideway. For this reason, a numerical prediction of air gap responses to these irregularities is desirable to improve aspects of running performance, such as stability and passenger comfort, while minimizing aesthetic impact and construction cost. This paper presents a procedure to predict the air gap response which is a criteria for stability, and investigates the responses with the goal of attaining higher travel speeds in the urban Maglev vehicle UTM-01 utilizing electromagnetic suspension.

  • This paper deals with electromagneitc characteristics analysis of high-speed brushless DC motor. First, under same rated and restricted conditions, four models which have different slot combinations each other are designed using 2-d finite element (FE) analyses. Designed models are analyzed and compared in terms of core loss, copper loss, eddy-current loss, etc. On the basis of analysis results, it is found that the motor with a 2-pole PM rotor and a 6-slot stator has most outstanding performances in electromagnetic aspects.

  • Micro force measurement is required more frequently for a precision manufacturing and investment in fields of precision industries such as semiconductor, chemistry and biology, and so forth. Null balance method has been introduced as an alternative of a loadcell. Loadcells have advantages in aspects of low cost and easy manufacturing, but have also the limitation in resolution and sensitivity to environment variations. In this paper, null balance method is explained and the dominant parameters related to system performances are mentioned. Null position sensor, electromagnetic system and controller are investigated. Also, the characteristic experiment is carried out in order to estimate the resolution and the measurement range. In order to overcome the limitation by the drift of position sensor and the performance of controller, double electromagnetic force compensation method is proposed and experimented. After controlling and filtering, the resolution under $\pm$ 1mg and measurement range over 300g could be obtained.

  • In order to improve sensing performance when the noise variance is not known, this paper considers a so-called blind spectrum sensing technique that is based on eigenvalue models. In this paper, we employed the spiked population models in order to identify the miss detection probability. At first, we try to estimate the unknown noise variance based on the blind measurements at a secondary location. We then investigate the performance of detection, in terms of both theoretical and empirical aspects, after applying this estimated noise variance result. In addition, we study the effects of the number of SUs and the number of samples on the spectrum sensing performance.

  • Based on a provided closed-form wireless power transmission (WPT) efficiency formula, which may be used for any value of load, we have analyzed the WPT efficiencies between two metamaterial-inspired loop antennas in various aspects. Due to the modeling based on low frequency circuit theory, the provided formula at the center resonant frequency has been found to be accurate until when the distance between the two loop antennas increases to 15 cm (about $\lambda_0/6$ at 300 MHz). When the two loops get closer, the resonant frequency has been found to split into two in theory, simulations, and measurements. The EM-simulated and measured efficiencies at new resonant frequencies are 60.9 % and 46.3 %, respectively, at d=15 cm. With two extra rings around the loops, the maximum efficiency is enhanced to 93.7 % at d=15 cm. The effect of the additional two rings is about 30 %.

  • Alternative analytic expressions for the mutual inductance ($L_m$) and coupling coefficient (k) between circular loops are presented using more familiar and convenient expressions that represent the property of reciprocity clearly. In particular, the coupling coefficients are expressed in terms of structural dimensions normalized to a geometric mean of radii of two loops. Based on the presented expressions, various aspects of the mutual inductances and coupling coefficients, including the regions of positive, zero, and negative value, are examined with respect to their impacts on the efficiency of wireless power transmission.

  • In indoor radio systems, vehicular communication systems, and land mobile systems, a very important problem is that of maintaing stable communications at all locations. Therefore solutions for the indoor propagation problem are an important aspects of the mobile communication system. Leaky coaxial cables finding increasing use in communications systems involving mines, tunnels, railroads, and highways, and in new obstacle detection, or guided radar, schemes for ground transpor- tation and perimeter surveilance. In this paper a leaky coaxial cable having periodic slots in the outer conductor is described to obtain the propagation modes in the various environments. We use an essentric cylindrical model to develop the theory for surface-wave propagation on the cable. Numerical Results are also included for the propagation constants, field distribution and impedance as functions of various parameters. First, we derive the electromagnetic equation for leaky coaxial cable having periodic slots using mode-matching method and Floguet's theorem, and then find various modes, propagation constants, field distribution, etc.

  • We performed numerical simulations of the recirculation flow of an electrolyte fluid in a circular container driven by an AC electromagnetic force for solving continuity and momentum equations. We also conducted an experiment to obtain flow data, which were in good agreement with the numerical simulation results. Furthermore, we performed a parametric study on both numerical and experimental aspects and found that the fluid velocity increases with an increase in the electrolyte concentration and magnetic intensity and with a decrease in the fluid depth and AC frequency.

  • In this paper, we established the generalized thermoelasticity phenomenon in an isotropic elastic medium considering the electromagnetic field, rotation and two-temperature. Three theories of generalized thermoelasticity have been applied: Lord-Shulman (one relaxation time), Green-Lindsay (two relaxation times), as well as the coupled theory. We discussed some particular cases in the context of the wave propagation phenomenon in thermoelasticity. From solving the fundamental equations, we arrived that there are three waves: P-, T- and SV-waves that we calculated their velocities. The boundary conditions for mechanical stress and Maxwell's stress and thermal insulated or isothermal have been applied to determine the amplitudes ratios (reflection coefficients) for P-, T - and SV waves. Some utilitarian aspects are obtained from the reflection coefficients, presented graphically, and the new conclusions have been presented. Comparisons are made for the results predicted by different theories (CT, LS, GL) in the absence and presence of the electro-magnetic field, rotation, as well as two-temperature on the reflection of generalized thermoelastic waves. The results obtained concluded that the external parameters as the angle of incidence, electromagnetic field, rotation as well as the theories parameters have strong effect on the phenomenon.

  • The study is one of fundamental researches for the development of future smart clothing and textile products with blocking properties from electromagnetic waves by analyzing human physical symptoms in using electromagnetic products in such an environments. Among various textiles in the experiment, nano silver has shown the best blocking performance from electromagnetic waves, which decreases depending on the distance. The power spectrum distribution and the incidence of electroencephalogram between blocking materials and aural stimuli has shown that, ${\beta}$, wave appeared to be active in all channels except for $T_4$, whereas all waves appeared with processed materials and especially with nano silver silk(NSS), ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\theta}$, ${\gamma}$ waves appeared active in all regions. As for the brain mapping of ${\alpha}$ wave according to time, there found a strong activity in $P_3$, $P_4$ of the parietal lobe, with all materials on all time regions. With silk nylon metal(SNM) and NSS, it appeared strong in $F_3$, $F_4$ as well. As for ${\beta}$, wave, the activity appeared strong in frontal lobe before 7min. 30sec, where it tends to diminish abruptly in 7min. 30sec. to 13min. 30sec. region. After 13min., it regained gradually. With NSS, it appeared strong in all areas except for the farthest $T_4$. The appearance of ${\nu}$ wave can be deduced as it can affect human body with its toxic property while the silver particles become nano-sized. Therefore, the study conducted with human participants requires a proper particle size of it which would not penetrate cellular tissues and a proper binder and binding treatment for it, to prevent the physical fatigues and the potential diseases. However, it is highly required for back-up researches to verify various aspects in applying nano silver to textile products.
