This article describes synthesis and electrochemical properties of layer-by-layer self-assembled multilayer film composed of polyaniline (PANi), graphene oxide (GO) and phytic acid (PA), whereby the GO was electrochemically reduced to ERGO, resulting in $(PANi/ERGO/PANi/PA)_{10}$ film electrode. Especially, we examined the possibility to improve the volumetric capacitive property of $(PANi/ERGO)_{20}$ film electrode via combining a spherical hexakisphosphate PA nanoparticle into the multilayer film that would dope PANi properly and also increase the porosity and surface area of the electrode. The electrochemical performances of the multilayer film electrodes were investigated using a three-electrode configuration in 1 M $H_2SO_4$ electrolyte. As a result, the $(PANi/ERGO)_{20}$ electrode showed the volumetric capacitance of $666F/cm^3$ at a current density of $1A/cm^3$, which was improved to the volumetric capacitance of $769F/cm^3$ for the $(PANi/ERGO/PANi/PA)_{10}$ electrode, in addition to the cycling stability maintained to 79.3% of initial capacitance after 1000 cycles. Thus, the electrochemical characteristics of the $(PANi/ERGO)_{20}$ electrode, which was densely packed by ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking between the electron-rich conjugate components, could have been improved through structural modification of the multilayer film via combining a spherical hexakisphosphate PA nanoparticle into the multilayer film.
An activated carbon paste electrode was modified with the N-Hydroxysuccinimide(NHS) layer and applied to determine the dopamine in the presence of an excess ascorbic acid using square-wave voltammetry. The electrochemical properties of the modified electrode were examined in the solution containing dopamine/ascorbic acid using cyclic voltammetry(CV): the separation between the oxidation peaks of dopamine and ascorbic acid was largely dependent on the pH of the sample solution and became maximum at pH 4.0. Hence, the square-wave voltammetric determination of dopamine was carried out in a pH 4.0, 100mM phosphate buffer saline(PBS) containing 140mM NaCl. The detection limit and response slop were improved from $1.0{\mu}M\;to\;5.0\times10^{-2}{\mu}M\;and\;from\;0.93{\mu}A/{\mu}M\;to\;6.1{\mu}A/{\mu}M$, respectively, upon modification of the electrode surface by NHS.
Electrochemical characterization and thermal stability were investigated for MgF2 coated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 cathode. The ratio of MgF2 was controlled by 0.5, 1, 3 wt%. Cyclic voltammetry, charge-discharge profiles, rate capability, cycle life were measured for electrochemical properties. DSC analysis was measured for thermal stability. The first discharge capacities of MgF2 coated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 were decreased at 0.1C-rate compared to pristine LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2. But the rate capability and cycle life of MgF2 coated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 were improved at 2C-rate. In DSC analysis result, the exothermic temperature of MgF2 coated LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 was increased and peak height was decreased.

Lithium metal anode with the highest theoretical capacity to replace graphite anodes are being reviewed. However, the dendrite growth during repeated oxidation/reduction reaction on lithium metal surface, which results in poor cycle performance and safety issue has hindered its successful implementation. In our previous work, we solved this problem by using surface modification technique whereby a surface pattern on lithium metal anode is introduced. Although the micro-patterned Lithium metal electrode is beneficial to control Li metal deposition efficiently, it is difficult to control the mossy-like Li granulation at high current density ($>2.0mA\;cm^{-2}$). In this study, we introduce vinylene carbonate (VC) electrolyte additive on micro patterned lithium metal anode to suppress the lithium dendrite growth. Owing to the synergetic effect of micro-patterned lithium metal anode and VC electrolyte additive, lithium dendrite at a high current density is dense. As a result, we confirmed that the cycle performance was further improved about 6 times as compared with the reference electrode.
This paper presents the results of a study that was undertaken to optimize the ratio of the components of a new multi-component inhibitor blend composed of orthophosphate/ phosphonates/ acrylate copolymer/ isothiazolone. The effects of newly developed inhibitor on carbon steel dissolution in synthetic cooling water were studied through weight loss tests, electrochemical tests, scale tests, and micro-organism tests. The obtained results were compared to blank (uninhibited specimen) and showed that developed inhibitor revealed very good corrosion, scale, and micro-organism inhibition simultaneously. All measurements indicated that the efficiency of the blended mixture exceeded 90 %. The inhibitive effects arose from formation of protective films which might contain calcium phosphate, calcium phosphonate, and iron oxide. The nature of protective films formed on the carbon steel was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and auger electron spe ctroscopy (AES). Inhibitor used in this study appeared to have better performance for scale inhibition due to their superior crystal modification effect and excellent calcium carbonate scale inhibition properties. The effect of inhibitor on microorganisms was evaluated through minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test. All kinds of micro-organisms used in this study were inhibited under 78ppm concentration of inhibitor.
Here we report improved photo-catalytic effect of $Ag_2S$ under visible light using carbon nano-tubes (CNT) modified with $Ag_2S$ nanoparticles. The optical properties, structural properties and compositional analysis, as well as the photo-electrochemical properties of the prepared composites were investigated. It was found that the photocurrent density, and the photo-catalytic effect, was increased by modification of CNT in this way. Compared with the separate effects of $Ag_2S$ and CNT nanoparticles, the photocatalytic effect of CNT-modified-with-$Ag_2S$ composites, increased significantly due to a synergistic effect between the CNT and the $Ag_2S$ nanoparticles.

Effects of alloy modification for the $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}$ alloy as an electrode materials have been investigated. When Ti in the alloy was partially substituted by Zr, the hydrogen storage capacity and subsequently the discharge capacity increased significantly, however, the activation characteristic and rate capability decreased. By substituting Mn with other elements (Cr, Co and Fe) in the alloy, discharge capacity decreased but the cycle life and rate capability were improved. Considering both the discharge capacity, the high rate discharge property and cycle life, the $Zr_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}V_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.3}Cr_{0.1}$ alloy among the alloys subjected to the test was found to be a prominent alloy for a practical usage.
This paper reports the effect of adding reduced graphene oxide (RGO) as a conductive material to the composition of an electrode for capacitive deionization (CDI), a process to remove salt from water using ionic adsorption and desorption driven by external applied voltage. RGO can be synthesized in an inexpensive way by the reduction and exfoliation of GO, and removing the oxygen-containing groups and recovering a conjugated structure. GO powder can be obtained from the modification of Hummers method and reduced into RGO using a thermal method. The physical and electrochemical characteristics of RGO material were evaluated and its desalination performance was tested with a CDI unit cell with a potentiostat and conductivity meter, by varying the applied voltage and feed rate of the salt solution. The performance of RGO was compared to graphite as a conductive material in a CDI electrode. The result showed RGO can increase the capacitance, reduce the equivalent series resistance, and improve the electrosorption capacity of CDI electrode.
The heterogeneous electron transfer at $SiMo_{12}O_{40}^{4-}$ monolayers on GC, HOPG, and Au electrode surfaces are investigated using cyclic voltammetric and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic (EIS) methods. The electron transfer of negatively charged $Fe(CN)_6^{3-}$ species is retarded at $SiMo_{12}O_{40}^{4-}$-modified electrode surfaces, while that of positively charged $Ru(NH_3)_6^{3+}$species is accelerated at the modified surfaces. This is due to the electrostatic interactions between $SiMo_{12}O_{40}^{4-}$ layers on surfaces and charged redox species. The electron transfer kinetics of a neutral redox species, 1,1‘-ferrocenedimethanol (FDM), is not affected by the modification of electrode surfaces with $SiMo_{12}O_{40}^{4-}$, indicating the $SiMo_{12}O_{40}^{4-}$ monolayers do not impart barriers to electron transfer of neutral redox species. This is different from the case of thiolate SAMs which always add barriers to electron transfer. The effect of $SiMo_{12}O_{40}^{4-}$ layers on the electron transfer of charged redox species is dependent on the kind of electrodes, where HOPG surfaces exhibit marked effects. Possible mechanisms responsible for different electron transfer behaviors at $SiMo_{12}O_{40}^{4-}$ layers are proposed.

Optimization of ionomer solution was conducted in order to improve the performance of MEAs in PEMPC. The interface between membrane and electrodes in MEAs is crucial region determining fuel cell performance as well as ORR reaction at cathode. Through the modification of Nafion ionomer content at the interface between membrane and electrodes, an optimal content was obtained with Nafion 115 membranes. Two times higher current density was obtained with the outer Nafion sprayed MEA compared with the non-sprayed one. In addition, the symmetrical impedance spectroscopy mode (SM) exhibited that the resistances of membrane area, proton hydration, and charge transfer decreased as the outer Nafion is sprayed. From the polarization curves and SM, the highest current density and the lowest resistance was obtained at the outer ionomer content of $0.15\;mg\;cm^{-2}$.
