In this paper, free vibration of sandwich beam with flexible core resting on orthotropic Pasternak is investigated. The top and bottom layers are reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs). This sandwich structural is modeled by Euler and Frostig theories. The effect of agglomeration using Mori-Tanaka model is considered. The Eringen's theory is applied for size effect. The structural damping is investigated by Kelvin-voigt model. The motion equations are calculated by Hamilton's principle and energy method. Using analytical method, the frequency of the structure is obtained. The effect of agglomeration and CNTs volume percent for different parameter such as damping of structure, thickens and spring constant of elastic medium are presented on the frequency of the composite structure. Results show that with increasing CNTs agglomeration, frequency is decreased.
This paper presents a study of the tensile behavior of carbon and glass fiber reinforced epoxy hybrid laminates manufactured by vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM). The objective of this study was to develop and characterize carbon fiber reinforced plastic hybrid composite material that is low cost and light-weight and that possesses adequate strength and stiffness. The effect of position and content of the glass fabric layer on the tensile properties of the hybrid laminates was examined. The strength and stiffness of the hybrid laminates showed a steady decrease with an increase of the glass fabric content this decrease was almost linear. Fracture strain of these laminates showed a slight increasing trend when glass fabric content was increased up to 3 layers, but at a glass fabric content > 3 layers the strain was almost constant. When glass fabric layers were at both outer surfaces, the hybrid laminate exhibited a slightly higher tensile strength and elastic modulus due to the small amount of glass yarn pull-out.
This paper presents application of neutron diffraction technique to the measurement of residual stresses in the T-type 20 m thick welded stainless steel plates(100$\times$50 $mm^2$ and 50$\times$50 $mm^2$). The High Resolution Powder Diffractormeter of the Korea Atomic Research Institute was utilized in the measurement. The power of nuclear reactor was 24 MWt and the measured reflection in the 220 plane (2$\theta$)was $92.66^{\circ}$. Poisson ratio of 0.265 and elastic constant of 211 GPa were applied to the calculation of stresses and strains. Three directional components such as normal, transverse, and longitudinal stresses were measured. The results showed that three components were tensile and became compressive along the y axis in the zone away from the welded center. The compressive stresses became tensile in the zone away from the center line of x axis. This may be due to the balance effect caused by the net stress to keep the specimen shape flat.
In this paper, the neutron diffraction is applied to the residual stress measurement on the 20mm-thick welded stainless steel plate ($100^{\circ}$$\times$100$mm^2$). The High Resolution Powder Diffractormeter of the Korea Atomic Research Institute The power of nuclear reactor was 24 MWt and the measured reflection in the 220 plane (2$\theta$ is $95^{\circ}$and wavelength is 1.8340 ${\AA}$ . The Poisson ratio of 0.265 and elastic constant of 211 GPa are applied to the calculation of stresses and strains. Three directional components such as normal, transverse, and longitudinal stresses are measured and the results show that the most of longitudinal stress is tensile and decreases, changing to compressive depending on the distance away from the welded spot. However, transverse component is changing from tensile to compressive along the depth of the welded point.
In this study, the influences of triaxial magnetic field on the wave propagation behavior of anisotropic nanoplates are studied. In order to include small scale effects, nonlocal strain gradient theory has been implemented. To study the nanoplate as a continuum model, the three-dimensional elasticity theory is adopted in Cartesian coordinate. In our study, all the elastic constants are considered and assumed to be the functions of (x, y, z), so all kind of anisotropic structures such as hexagonal and trigonal materials can be modeled, too. Moreover, all types of functionally graded structures can be investigated. eigenvalue method is employed and analytical solutions for the wave propagation are obtained. To justify our methodology, our results for the wave propagation of isotropic nanoplates are compared with the results available in the literature and great agreement is achieved. Five different types of anisotropic structures are investigated in present paper and then the influences of wave number, material properties, nonlocal and gradient parameter and uniaxial, biaxial and triaxial magnetic field on the wave propagation analysis of anisotropic nanoplates are presented. From the best knowledge of authors, it is the first time that three-dimensional elasticity theory and nonlocal strain gradient theory are used together with no approximation to derive the governing equations. Moreover, up to now, the effects of triaxial magnetic field have not been studied with considering size effects in nanoplates. According to the lack of any common approximations in the displacement field or in elastic constant, present theory has the potential to be used as a bench mark for future works.

This study was carried out as a part of the research on the development of a maskless and electroless process for fabricating metal micro/nanostructures by using a nanoindenter and an electroless deposition technique. $2-\mu{m}-deep$ indentation tests on Ni and Cu samples were performed. The elastic recovery of the Ni and Cu was 9.30% and 9.53% of the maximum penetration depth, respectively. The hardness and the elastic modulus were 1.56 GPa and 120 GPa for Ni and 1.49 GPa and 100 GPa for Cu. The effect of single-point diamond machining conditions such as the Berkovich tip orientation (0, 45, and $90^{\circ}$) and the normal load (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1, 3, and 5 mN), on both the deformation behavior and the morphology of cutting traces (such as width and depth) was investigated by constant-load scratch tests. The tip orientation had a significant influence on the coefficient of friction, which varied from 0.52-0.66 for Ni and from 0.46-0.61 for Cu. The crisscross-pattern sample showed that the tip orientation strongly affects the surface quality of the machined area during scratching. A selective deposition of Cu at the pit-like defect on a p-type Si(111) surface was also investigated. Preferential deposition of the Cu occurred at the surface defect sites of silicon wafers, indicating that those defect sites act as active sites for the deposition reaction. The shape of the Cu-deposited area was almost the same as that of the residual stress field.

In various attempts to relate the behaviour of highly-elastic liquids in complex flows to their rheometrical behaviour, obvious candidates for study have been the variation of shear viscosity with shear rate, the two normal stress differences $N_1$ and $N_2$, especially $N_1$, and the extensional viscosity $\eta_E$. In this paper, we shall be mainly interested in 'constant-viscosity' Boger fluids, and, accordingly, we shall limit attention to $N_1$ and $\eta_E$. We shall concentrate on two important flows - axisymmetric contraction flow and "splashing" (particularly that which arises when a liquid drop falls onto the tree surface of the same liquid). Modern numerical techniques are employed to provide the theoretical predictions. It is shown that the two obvious manifestations of viscoelastic rheometrical behaviour can sometimes be opposing influences in determining flow characteristics. Specifically, in an axisymmetric contraction flow, high $\eta_E$ can retard the flow, whereas high $N_1$ can have the opposite effect. In the splashing experiment, high $\eta_E$ can certainly reduce the height of the so-called Worthington jet, thus confirming some early suggestions, but, again, other rheometrical influences can also have a role to play and the overall picture may not be as clear as it was once envisaged.
In this paper, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was carried to predict thermo-mechanical behaviors for carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced epoxy composites and to analyze the trends. Total of six models having the volume fractions of CNT from 0 to 25% in epoxy were constructed. To predict thermal behaviors, temperature was increased constantly from 300 to 600 K, and the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) analyzed using the relationship between temperature and specific volume. The elastic moduli that represented to the mechanical behaviors were also predicted by constant strain. Additionally, the effects of functionalization of CNT on mechanical behaviors of composite were analyzed. Models were constructed to represent CNTs functionalized by nitrogen doping and COOH groops, and interfacial behaviors and elastic moduli were analyzed. Results showed that the agglomerations of CNTs in epoxy cause by perturbations of thermo-mechanical behaviors, and the functionalization of CNTs improved the interfacial response as well as mechanical properties.

A simplified analytical procedure is presented to estimate the reduction of elastic lateral stiffness of steel moment frames arising from the radius-cut dogbone weakening. With the original radius-cut dogbone shape, it is almost impossible or too complicated to integrate analytically the mathematical expressions encountered when applying the conjugate beam method to compute the beam deflection component. In this study, the problem is circumvented by replacing the original radius-cut dogbone with an equivalent dogbone of constant width. The equivalence between the two is established by imposing an equal dogbone elongation criterion. This approach is justified by using a calibrated finite clement analysis. Then, the elastic lateral deflection components from the column, panel zone, and beam are derived for a typical beam-column subassembly. The derived results can be used to evaluate the reduction of the frame lateral stiffness. Case studies conducted within some practical ranges of frame configurations show that the reduction in frame lateral stiffness due to the presence of dogbone cut is on the order of 1 to 2 percent and is reasonably negligible in practical sense.
Differential equations and their solutions were formulated to describe the deflection of both temples and front frames and the pressure exerted by them varying parameters such as elastic modulus, thickness, length, width and shape of crosssection. The effect of such parameters on the deflections of both temples and front frames was illustrated by plotting the solutions of the derived equations. Deflection of temples was found to be maximum where the cross section was diamond-shaped and to be minimum with the rectangular cross section while thickness and cross section area of temples remain constant. The effect of parameters consisting of front frame on the deflection of front frames are very similar to those on temples. The central deflection and pressure of front frame initiated by the temple decreases as the length of temple increases. Detailed analysis of stresses at various parts of the temple will help design custom made spectacle frame as well as most comfortable frames.
