Effects of Scaffolding Types and Individual Metacognition Levels on Learning Achievement in Online Collaborative Argumentation

  • This study examined the effects of scaffolding types (Toulmin's Argument Pattern: TAP or Argumentation Vee Diagram: AVD) and individual metacognition levels (low or high) on students' learning achievement in online collaborative argumentation. A total of 191 Chinese undergraduates took part in this study. They were randomly assigned to either the TAP scaffolding, AVD scaffolding, or no scaffolding condition. They were teamed up in small groups of two or three students to argue with their peers using SNS as the online collaborative argumentation environment. The results revealed that students in the TAP and AVD scaffolding conditions did not gain significantly higher retention or transfer scores than students without scaffolding. However, students in the TAP scaffolding condition significantly outperformed those in the AVD scaffolding condition on transfer scores. Individual metacognition did not significantly affect learning achievement in online collaborative argumentation. Additionally, there was no significant interaction effect between scaffolding types and individual metacognition levels on retention or on transfer. The findings have implications for scaffolding design for online collaborative argumentation and also suggest that more attention should be paid to social metacognition rather than to individual metacognition when students work collaboratively.

  • The recent entry into information society as well as the development and universalization of the Internet through rapid development of ICT technology produced a new educational method called PMP learning. PMP learning overcomes restrictions of previous education methods in terms of time and space and allows the learners to customize their learning environments according to their leads, providing voluntary education that centers on the learners. This study aims to verify the causal relationship in academic achievement of PMP learners through the theory of basic psychological desire, learning satisfaction, and learning metastasis. In order to accomplish this, a study model which applies perceived autonomy, perceived competence, and perceived relationship, which are major variables of the theory of basic psychological desire, was presented. For practical verification of the study model, survey analysis was conducted for students of R High School in Hamyang. Through this, the study aims to provide basic materials for improving the academic achievement of learners in PMP learning. It also plans to suggest educational effects that can be obtained by supporting intrinsic motivation of learners.

  • The purpose of this study is the examination of the possibility as grasping the circumstance which is the time required from programming to design process in schools which are established newly and investigating the consciousness of the user's participation, because we need a user participation process in the programming to design process to improve the level of design. The above-mentioned purpose is the reason that this study composes the second grade. This study shows the entirely necessary time to work each step as collecting the data of programming-design process to 33 schools which are established for 4 years between 2002 and 2005 by Busan metropolitan city office of education, and the reason why they need a time each step. As the result of this study, the school established by the purpose of land development business takes more time than the school of learning environment improvement and of reconstruction & transfer case. Because of the change of land for school, we have to take a cautious approach to select the land for school in the future when developing the land. The time required from programming to design process in reconstruction & transfer case is the shortest even though it is different a little according to the kind of schools.

  • This paper discusses the development of an educational web-based power flow program for undergraduate students. The interaction between lectures and users can be much enhanced via the web-based programs which result in the student's learning effectiveness on the power flow problem. However the difficulties for developing web-based application programs are that there can be the numerous unspecified users to access the application programs. To overcome the aforementioned multi-users problem and to develope the educational web-based power flow program, we have revised the system architecture, the modeling of application programs, and database which efficiently and effectively manages the complex data sets related to the power flow analysis program. The developed application program is composed of the physical three tiers where the middle tier is logically divided into two kinds of application programs. The divided application programs are interconnected by using the Web-service based on XML (Extended Markup Technology) and HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) which make it possible the distributed computing technology Also, this paper describes the method of database modeling to handle effectively when the numerous users change the parameters of the power system to compare the results of the base case.

Watch One, Do One? A Systematic Review and Educational Analysis of YouTube Microsurgery Videos, and a Proposal for a Quality Assurance Checklist

  • Background Educational resources on the internet are extensively used to obtainmedical information. YouTube is the most accessed video platform containing information to enhance the learning experience of medical professionals. This study systematically analyzed the educational value of microsurgery-related videos on this platform. Methods A systematic review was conducted on YouTube from April 18 to May 18, 2020, using the following terms: "microsurgery," "microsurgical," "microsurgical anastomosis," "free flap," and "free tissue transfer." The search was limited to the first 100 videos, and two independent reviewers screened for eligible entries and analyzed their educational value using validated scales, including a modified version of the DISCERN score (M-DISCERN), Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMAS) benchmark criteria, and the Global Quality Score (GQS). Evaluation of video popularity was also assessed with the video power index (VPI). Results Of 356 retrieved videos, 75 (21%) were considered eligible. The educational quality of videos was highly variable, and the mean global scores for the M-DISCERN, JAMAS, and GQS for our sample were consistent with medium to low quality. Conclusions A limited number of videos on YouTube for microsurgical education have high-educational quality. The majority scored low on the utilized criteria. Peer-reviewed resources seem to be a more reliable resource. Although the potential of YouTube should not be disregarded, videos should be carefully appraised before being usedas an educational resource.

대수의 사고 요소 분석 및 학습-지도 방안의 탐색 (Analysis of the Algebraic Thinking Factors and Search for the Direction of Its Learning and Teaching)

  • 오늘날 문자의 도입과 함께 시작되는 학교대수는 초등수학에서 중등수학으로의 이행에서 가장 큰 장애요인이 되고 있다. 이는 산술과 차별화된 대수의 본질에 기인하는 것으로, 문자와 식, 방정식에서의 구문론적 측면을 강조하는 것만으로 해결 될 수 없다. 이에 최근 학교대수와 관련된 연구에서는 대수적 사고에 대한 논의가 집중적으로 다루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 대수적 사고 요소를 분석하여 산술에서 대수로의 이행과 초기 대수지도과정을 개선하기 위한 방안을 탐색해본 것이다. 먼저 역사-발생적, 인식론적, 기호-언어학적 관점으로부터 학교대수에서 요구되는 대수적 사고를 분석하고, 이로부터 형식 불역의 원리를 비롯하여 변수 개념과 양적인 추론, 대수적인 해석-식 세우기, 변환추론-식의 변형, 연산감각-식의 조작 등을 핵심적인 대수적 사고 요소로 확인한다. 그리고 초등학교와 중학교 수학 교과서를 분석하고 학생들을 대상으로 한 대수적 사고 능력 검사와 면담을 실시하고, 이를 토대로 학교수학에 포함된 대수적 사고 요소를 살펴본다. 또한 초등학교 수학에서부터 대수적 사고 요소를 강조함으로써 대수 입문기에 해당하는 중학교 이후의 대수 학습에 대한 준비와 더불어 대수적 사고 요소에 초점을 맞춘 산술에서 대수로의 이행을 이끌어내기 위한 지도 방안을 탐색해본다.

Nonlinear analysis of a riverine platform under earthquake and environmental loads

  • A realistic FEM structural model is developed to predict the behavior, load transfer, force distribution and performance of a riverine platform under earthquake and environmental loads. The interaction between the transfer plate and the piles supporting the platform is investigated. Transfer plate structures have the ability to redistribute the loads from the superstructure above to piles group below, to provide safe transits of loads to piles group and thus to the soil, without failure of soil or structural elements. The distribution of piles affects the distribution of stress on both soil and platform. A materially nonlinear earthquake response spectrum analysis was performed on this riverine platform subjected to earthquake and environmental loads. A fixed connection between the piles and the platform is better in the design of the piles and the prospect of piles collapse is low while a hinged connection makes the prospect of damage high because of the larger displacements. A fixed connection between the piles and the platform is the most demanding case in the design of the platform slab (transfer plate) because of the high stress values developed.

A Study on Interlanguage Transfer through L3 Acquisition

  • As the globalization process progresses more rapidly and widely, there has been a ever-growing demand for multilingual learning. Compared with the study of Second Language Acquisition, studies on the Third Language and even Multilingual Acquisition have attracted a relatively poor attention. At the same time, considering current educational environments for ethnic colleges and universities, the effects of college English teaching for minority students can be said to have been 'generally poor.' In this situation, when we try to find ways to improve college English studies for minority students most of whom already can speak two languages or even more, it would not be the best idea to keep following the experiences of traditional Second Language Acquisition. It is necessary first to find out whether there are positive or negative effects in acquiring multiple languages, and then to conduct a profound research on L3 (third language and even multilingual) Acquisition in order to employ more efficient teaching methods for multilingual learners. After conducting a Japanese-teaching experiment on two groups of learners with mono-lingual and bilingual backgrounds, it has been found that there is a positive transfer between different languages. In this paper, following the recent research findings on Language teaching for multilingual learners, I try to show with further supports that when it comes to language education for learners with multilingual backgrounds, we should focus on the advantages they may earn in order to conduct more effective language acquisition.

반응적 교수를 위한 교사교육 프로그램을 통한 화학교사의 교수 유형 및 장애 요인 분석 (Analysis of Teaching Types and Obstacles of Chemistry Teachers through Teacher Educational Programs for Responsive Teaching)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 화학교사들의 반응적 교수 유형의 변화를 관찰하기 위하여 선행연구에서 제안한 반응적 교수 유형을 세분화하고, 반응적 교수 유형의 변화에 장애를 주는 요인을 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 교육대학원 과정으로 개설한 화학교육 강좌에 참여한 화학교사들을 대상으로 반응적 교수법에 대한 소개, 반응적 교수법 사례 분석, 촉진자 유형의 교육시나리오에 대한 개별 과제 및 조별 토론 등이 포함된 교육프로그램을 제공하였다. 선행연구를 바탕으로 교사의 교수법은 변별자 유형, 전달자 유형, 안내자 유형, 촉진자 유형으로 분석하였을 때, 분류가 안되는 유형이 관찰되었으므로, 이 연구에서는 탐색자 유형과 해석자 유형 등 2가지 유형을 추가하여 화학교사들의 반응적 교수 유형을 세분화하였다. 또한 개별 과제 및 조별 토론 자료를 통해 교사들의 반응적 교수법 변화에 장애를 주는 요인을 관찰할 수 있었다. 연구에서 찾아낸 장애 요인으로는 교사 요인, 학생 요인, 환경 요인 등이 있었다. 장애 요인 중 교사 요인으로는 교사 주도 수업에 대한 신념, 지식 전달자로서 교사의 역할에 대한 신념, 교육과정에 따라야 한다는 신념, 학생에 대한 교사의 이해 부족, 학생 주도 확장을 이끄는 교사의 역량 부족 등이 나타났다. 학생 요인으로는 학생의 역량에 대한 불신이 있었다. 또한 환경 요인으로는 다인수 학급과 같은 교육 환경이 있었다. 이러한 장애 요인을 제거하기 위한 노력이 함께 이루어질 때 반응적 교수법에 대한 효과적인 교사교육이 이루어질 수 있을 것이다.

간호대학생의 자기주도학습과 전이동기가 임상실습 중 학습전이에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Self-directed Learning and Motivation to Transfer on Transfer of Learning for Nursing Students in Clinical Practice)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 임상실습 중 학습전이 정도를 알아보고 학습전이에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하고자 시도하였다. 자료 수집은 2019년 6월부터 7월까지 S시에 위치한 일개 간호학과 재학 중인 3, 4학년 학생 113명을 대상으로 편의표집 하였다. 수집된 자료는 서술통계, 독립 t-검정, ANOVA 및 Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, Stepwise multiple regression을 사용하여 분석하였다. 대인관계가 좋을수록, 전공만족도가 높을수록, 교내실습 만족도가 높을수록 학습전이가 높게 나타났고, 학습전이는 전이동기와는 강한 양의 상관관계(r=.60, p=<.001), 자기 주도적 학습능력사이에는 다소 강한 양의 상관관계(r=.46, p=<.001), 자기 주도적 학습능력 세부 영역에서는, 학습평가(r=.49, p=<.001), 학습계획(r=.41, p=<.001), 학습실행(r=.32, p=<.001) 순으로 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 학습전이의 영향요인은 전이동기(β=0.43), 학습평가 (β=0.21) 및 교내실습 만족도(β=0.22) 이었고 총 설명력은 43%이었다. 따라서, 실습중인 간호대학생의 학습전이를 높이기 위해서 전이동기를 높이고 자기주도적 학습평가를 높이는 교육전략과 교내실습 만족도를 높이기 위한 실습환경 및 교수학습법 적용이 필요하겠다.
