  • Forward Head Posture (FHP) involves the anterior positioning of the head relative to the shoulders, often associated with muscular imbalances. It is known that individuals with FHP experience shortening of craniocervical extensors and cervical flexors. However, contrary to the understanding of flexion in the craniocervical extension subaxial region, a study has reported flexion in the craniovertebral spinal vertebrae among individuals with FHP. The aim of this study was to examine the consistency of biomechanical study results conducted for FHP. The relevant studies were investigated in PubMed and Google Scholar databases using the keywords "forward head posture OR cervical sagittal alignment OR cervical spine AND biomechanics OR kinetic analysis OR kinematic analysis." During the research selection process, only nine studies relevant to the purpose of our study were identified. Out of these nine studies, four conducted kinematic analysis related to FHP formation, while six conducted kinetic analysis. During the comparison of these studies, five inconsistencies were identified. Biomechanical studies on FHP reveal conflicting findings, suggesting potential variability in the biomechanics of FHP formation across individuals. However, drawing definitive conclusions requires further exploration through additional biomechanical investigations on FHP in the future.

  • Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has emerged as a powerful technique for detecting and analyzing chemical and biological molecules at ultra-low concentrations. The effectiveness of SERS largely depends on structures with sub-10 nm gaps, prompting the proposal of various nanostructures as efficient SERS-active platforms. Among these, single-crystalline gold nanowires (AuNWs) are particularly promising due to their large dielectric constants, well-defined geometries, atomically smooth surfaces, and surface plasmon resonance across the visible spectrum, which produce strong SERS enhancements. This review comprehensively explores the synthesis, functionalization, and application of Au NWs in SERS. We discuss various methods for synthesizing AuNWs, including the vapor transport method, which influences their morphological and optical properties. We also review practical applications in chemical and biosensing, showcasing the adaptability of Au NWs-based SERS platforms in detecting a range of analytes, from environmental pollutants to biological markers. The review concludes with a discussion on future perspectives that aim to enhance sensor performance and broaden application domains, highlighting the potential of these sensors to revolutionize diagnostics and environmental monitoring. This review underscores the transformative impact of AuNW-based SERS sensors in analytical chemistry, environmental science, and biomedical diagnostics, paving the way for next-generation sensing technologies.

  • Purpose: This study aims to explore the relationship between exclusion experiences and tactile sensations in online contexts, moving beyond existing frameworks of social exclusion research. Social exclusion induces psychological and physiological pain similar to physical pain, which can lead to various behavioral responses aimed at overcoming these distressing experiences. This study focuses on the potential of touch to mitigate psychological and physiological pain. Individuals who experience social exclusion feel emotional distress, leading to an increased desire for physical contact, which is expected to influence their responses to positive tactile products. Data and methodology: To validate this, the study examines how individuals who have experienced social exclusion respond to tactile products, such as sweaters, in online environments. Results: The results indicate that participants in the exclusion condition had a higher purchase intention for tactile products compared to those in the control condition, confirming the psychological mechanism of the desire to touch these products. Conclusions: This research is the first to analyze the relationship between social exclusion and tactile products, contributing to the expansion of the field of social exclusion studies. Additionally, it provides practical implications for marketers regarding the exposure of products targeting individuals experiencing social isolation and emotional loneliness.

  • This study introduces a prototype for a virtual zoo initiative, aimed at optimizing resource utilization and minimizing animal displacement from their natural habitats. The prototype features a thoughtfully developed three-dimensional representation of an emperor penguin, with animations designed to emulate real-life behaviors. An investigation into file format distinctions for scientific research, encompassing Wavefront(OBJ), Collada(DAE), and Filmbox(FBX) formats, was conducted. The research utilized the Hololens 2 device for visualization, Unity for environment development, Blender for modeling, and C# for programming, with deployment facilitated through Visual Studio 2019 and the Mixed Reality Toolkit. Empirical examination revealed the OBJ format's suitability for simple geometric shapes, while DAE and FBX formats were preferred for intricate models and animations. DAE files offer detailed preservation of object structure and animations albeit with larger file sizes, whereas FBX files provide compactness but may face scalability constraints due to extensive data integration. This investigation underscores the potential of virtual zoos for conservation and education, advocating for further exploration and context-specific implementation.

  • This study suggests that educational recommender systems should be explainable and extend beyond the commercially driven algorithms that primarily rely on user preferences and purchase behaviors. Instead, we propose a recommendation method that considers how and why people learn by employing the relative importance of various learner variables. To develop a recommendation algorithm, 100 adult participants used 4 to 6 foreign language learning mobile applications(apps), generating a dataset of 557 user perception reports. Using this data, we designed and developed a recommender system based on the importance weights of 14 learner variables, categorized into four groups: (a) demographic information, (b) motivational orientation for language learning (instrumental vs. integrative), (c) learning styles, and (d) learning experience. The results based on RandomForestRegressor model revealed that language learning motivation, learning styles (specifically information processing), and usage frequency were significantly more influential than general demographic factors in predicting learners' evaluation of the apps. Furthermore, learners' perception of the recommender system revealed that the recommender system was relevant and engaging, effectively meeting their needs and assisting them in selecting appropriate language learning apps. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of educational recommender systems that consider learners' motivation, experience, and learning styles.

  • This study is to investigate the factors affecting volunteer participation and volunteer participation intention of Seoul citizens. Among the Seoul Survey data conducted in 2016, data from 41,900 people aged between 20 and 90 years old were used as the analysis data. The actual volunteers who have actually participated in volunteering, the volunteers who do not have experience of participation but have volunteer participation incentives, and the non-participant who does not participate and do not intend to participate are defined as dependent variables. A multinomial logistic regression model was used for the empirical validation of factors that have a significant relationship with actual volunteers and potential volunteers. For this purpose, we integrate the existing research on volunteering, and used the comprehensive influence factors for the individual human capital, subjective inclination, and social factors. The results of this study showed that gender(female), age(-), education(+), economic activity type(unemployed), religion, donation experience, personal satisfaction(+), overall satisfaction(+), residence period in Seoul(+), participation in cultural events(+) and social network variables had statistically significant effects on volunteer participation. Gender(female), age(-), personal income(+), socioeconomic hierarchy recognition(+), religion and the social network variable were statistically significant factors on potential volunteer group that make the difference with the non-attendance group. These findings broaden the academic understanding of human resources, subjective disposition, and social factors that influence potential volunteers as well as actual volunteers. Overcoming the limitations of existing research that assumes volunteers as homogeneous groups understand the potential volunteer groups of Seoul citizens who have never been discussed before. This study has implications for constructing a new knowledge base on volunteer participation and suggesting a new direction for volunteer research.

  • Internet, a world wide network of computers, is considered as a sea of information because it allows people to share information beyond the barriors of time and space. However, in spite of the unmeasurable potential applications of the internet, its use in the field of biology education has been extremely limited mainly due to the scarcity of good biology-related sites. In order to provide useful guidelines for constructing user-friendly study sites, which can help high school students with different intellectual levels to study biology, comparative studies were performed on selected educational sites. Initially, hundreds of related sites were examined, and, subsequently, four distinct sites were selected not only because they are well organized, but also because each is unique in its contents. Also, a survey was carried out against the users of each site. The survey results indicated that the high school students regard the web-based biology study tools as effective teaching methods although there might be some bias in criteria for selecting target sites. In addition to the detailed biology topics and the related biology informations, multimedia data including pictures, animations and movies are found to be one of the important ingredients for desirable biology study sites. Thus, the inclusion of multimedia components should also be considered when developing a systematic biology study site. Overall, the role of the cyber space is expected to become more and more important. Since the development of the user-satisfied and self-guided sites require interdisciplinary collaborational efforts which should be made to promote extensive communication among teachers, education professionals, and computer engineers. Furthermore, the introduction of good biology study sites to the students by their teachers is also important factor for the successful web-based education.
