Univariate, bivariate, and logistic regression analysis were performed to produce the findings of this study. Only 27.9% of the study sample had had a Pap test in 1992. It was found that the relative sociodemographic profiles of the Pap test between users and non-users were distinctive. • This study was to identify various personal characteristics between those having a helper and those not having a helper for ADL and IADL performance in noninstitutionalized elders. Secondary analysis was done with the data collected in 1994 national survey of aged householders. Of the elders with ADL limitations $47.8\%$ had no helper. while $26.2\%$ of those with IADL limitations had no helper. Those elders with a helper experienced more limitations in ADL and in IADL than those with no helper. Most of the helpers were family members. whereas very few had a formal helper. Age period and subjective economic status were significantly different between the groups with a helper and with no helper for both ADL and IADL. Compared to the elders with a helper. those elders with no helper had fewer children living together. whereas they had more grandchildren. They also had more contacts with friends or neighbors. Health status. in general. was worse in those elders with a helper than those with no helper. Logistic regression analysis revealed that ADL and IADL limitations had largest influence on having an ADL helper. The odds ratios for low levels of subjective economic status were very high. As for having an IADL helper. IADL score was the most important predictor. In particular. ADL limitations had a negative effect on having an IADL helper. This finding may indicate the urgency of ADL needs. which leads to the lack of an IADL helper when both ADL and IADL limitations are present. Considering the nature of ADL. those disabled elders with low economic status need public support for their daily activities and for home visiting nursing services. There should be studies of examining the adequacy of help in satisfying basic needs for performing ADL and IADL in elders.

  • The present study identified the factors of economic retirement preparation for people living with disabilities using the Andersen's behavioral model. The 2012 Disabled Employment Panel Survey data were collected from May 21, 2012 to July 31, 2012 and were analyzed by applying the SPSS 20 program. Logistic regression analysis was carried out on a sample of 2,869 people aged 30 to 60 years. The predisposing factors (education, marital status), possibility factors (employment, non-basic livelihood security recipient status, homeowner status, income), and desire factors (subjective socioeconomic status, life satisfaction, self-esteem) affected the retirement preparation. To help people living with disabilities, policies and programs based on the factors that reflect the individual needs must be established.

  • Objectives : We investigated the effects of the economic growth and unemployment rates on the suicide rate in Korea, between 1983 and 2000, using a time-series regression model. The purpose of this study was to model and test the magnitude of the rate of suicide, with the Korean unemployment rate and GDP. Methods : Using suicide rate per 100,000 Koreans and the unemployment rates between 1983 and 2000, as published by the Korea National Statistical Office, and the rate of fluctuation of the Korean GDP (Gross Domestic Product), as provided by the Bank of Korea, as an index of the economic growth rate, a time-series regression analysis, with a first-order autoregressive regression model, was peformed. Results : An 81.5% of the variability in the suicide rate was explained by GDP, and 82.6% Of that was explained by the unemployment rate. It was also observed that the GDP negatively correlated with the suicide rate, while the unemployment and suicide rates were positively correlated. For subjects aged over 20, both the GDP and unemployment rate were found to be a significant factors in explaining suicide rates, with coefficients of determination of 86.5 and 87.9%, respectively. For subjects aged under 20, however, only the GDP was found to be a significant factor in explaning suicide rates (the coefficient of determination is 38.4%). Conclusion : It was found that the suicide rate was closely related to the National's economic status of Korea, which is similar to the results found in studies in other countries. We expected, therefore, that this study could be used as the basis for further suicide-related studies.

Methods: For this study the data were collected from March 27, 2006 to April 14, 2006. Subjects were 92 elderly over 65 years old. The level of depression was estimated with the Beck Depression Inventory, and the cognitive function with the modified Mental Status Questionnaire (MSQ). The Data were analyzed using frequencies, t-test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient with the SPSS/PC program. Results: The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. The mean score was 13.09 for depression and 8.27 for cognitive function. 2. Analysis according to the demographic characteristics confirmed a statistically significant difference on the level of cognitive function between the elderly who live alone and those who live together(f=4.293, p<0.01) 3. The percentage of the severely and mildly impaired in cognitive function was 7.6% and 6.5%, respectively. 4. The variables of age(f=11.17, p<0.01), educational level(f=15.23, p<0.01), martial status(f=4.084, p<0.01), and economic activity(t=4.41, p<0.01) showed a significant effect on cognitive function. 5. There was no relationship between depression and cognitive function. Conclusion: Social support and a variety of programs at welfare facilities in the community were recommended in order to reduce depression and cognitive impairment in the elderly.

  • In South Korea, female individuals in their forties show a high rate of incidence, with approximately 13% of the patients being <40 years. This statistic is more than twice as high as that in Western countries. It is therefore necessary to identify the risk factors for breast cancer incidence by age and economic activity participation status. Women aged 30 to 59-whether breast cancer patients or those in the control group and having no breast cancer-were appraised from the sample cohort database. The data were analyzed using the statistical software R36.2. To identify the factors affecting breast cancer incidence, the degree of association was determined with HR and 95% CI by means of cox regression analysis. As for the socio-demographic variables, the older the individual, the higher the risk of breast cancer incidence becomes. As for the economic activity variables, those who were dependents (unemployed) and who had higher income (medium and high) were at higher risk of breast cancer incidence, which was statistically significant. The income-adjusted HR (model 1) for breast cancer development associated with the economic activity was 1.452 (95% CI, 1.19-1.77). The body mass index and alcohol intake-adjusted HR (model 2) was 1.431 (95% CI, 1.18-1.74). One needs to pay attention to policy plans regarding women's quality of life, as well as to the risk of breast cancer incidence by their economic activity. In other words, policies need to give post care, instead of focus on early detection and cancer treatment.

  • We are confronted by increase in old people due to the improvement in medical science, public hygiene and socioeconimic status in 20th century. But our medical security system for old people dees not meet the need for medical service of old people. Current medical insurance system restricts term and extent in allowance although the characteristics of the disease of the aged people need medical care of Bong duration and high cost. And in the medicaid system the speciality of the aged people is not recognized and the budget of the government is scanty. In addition many old people to our country are in economic distress due to low income. But the government authority does not give sufficient consideration for eld people in law, policy and budget. To improve social security system for old people it is necessary to increase the budget for the security of old people, to enhance the traditional respect for the aged, to improve medical security system by improving the accessibility to medical service and by expanding the allowance of medical insurance, and to expand the public welfare institutions. And these are roles for all the family. the society and the nation as well as the aged people themselves.
