  • South Korea has achieved economic development rapidly during last 50 years. However, such fast economic development with industrialization caused skyrocketing increase of automobiles. The increase of automobile has created various problems in the cities. Problems like traffic congestion and accident, environmental pollution, noise, and vibration have done human beings, who are the principal agents harm. They have made citizens understand how important Green transportation, especially pedestrian movement, is. Recently, installation of pedestrian facilities has been expanded. If walking facilities are incorrectly designed, they can create inconvenience, danger and the state of emergency due to the lack of safety and pleasant feelings. However, since the importance of the facility designs has been neglected due to the lack of understanding, it is hard to improve the facilities. Therefore, we need various studies of walking simulation in order to research the designs for pedestrians' safety and convenience. The objective of this study is to analyze the pedestrians' behavior and movement in a transfer subway station. The improvement of walking environment was made after chasing and analyzing the pedestrians' movement which is investigated in the actual field using SimWalk simulation program.

  • The Iksan Mireuksaji stone pagoda, designated as national treasure No. 11 in Korea, has been in the process of disassembling for reconstruction as part of the cultural heritage conservation program. The pagoda is mainly consisting of granite, which is relatively resistant to weathering. However, it has lost its original rock color due to various contaminants deposited at the surface since it exposed to the atmospheric environment long time. In this research, we categorized the secondary inorganic contaminants into the genetic type, and also quantitatively examined occurrences and types of pollutants in the oxidation area of the pagoda surface in which the area is clearly distinguished by naked eyes. Geochemical behavior of soluble pollutants through reaction experiments are demonstrated, and effective methods of cleaning for the conservation and scientific applicability of the surface cleaner are also studied.

  • This study aimed to look into a comparison of the demographical characteristics concerning behavior toward the consumption of and satisfaction with Korean foods, and intention to repurchase Korean foods by identifying the food-related lifestyles of Korean consumers. As a result of research, food-related lifestyle was divided into five dimensions, namely the pursuit of health, convenience, safety, economic efficiency, and the pursuit of taste factors. Consumers' food-related lifestyles were confirmed to exhibit a significant difference according to demographic characteristics, such as gender, residential area, age, occupation, educational background, and income, and to the characteristics of their consumption behavior of Korean foods. In detail, the food-related lifestyles of consumers in their twenties showed a higher tendency for convenience and the pursuit of taste factors, and consumers in their forties or over were likely to pursue both economic efficiency and taste factors at the same time. Overall, the pursuit of safety was discovered as being the highest tendency. Also, the food-related lifestyle that most significantly affected satisfaction with Korean foods appeared to be health and the pursuit of taste factors, and satisfaction were found to have a significant effect on the intention to revisit.

  • The model was developed by applying the principles of Bacot and Vidal to measure the behavior of deformation of the reinforced earth wall, and various tasts were performed by using the plastic fabric filter and the galvanized steel plate as a strip. The results obtained are as follows; 1. When the reinforced earth wall is deformed by the load, the strip is completely reinforced by the backfill materials and changed to the rigid block state, under the state of failure which permits sliding only, the next theoretical equation is formed. (H/L) . tan$\theta$ [cosO-sinOtanO] =2sinO[tan($\theta$ +0) +tanO] 2.The degree of the mutual reinforcement of the backfill material and the strip depend on the physical characteristics of the each material especially the angle of shearing resistance of the backfill material is desirable over 20$^{\circ}$ and, if it is over 400, its function could be a maximum. 3.The distribution of the maximum tensile strain of the reinforcement is changing with the height of reinforced earth wall, and when the height from bottom of the reinforced earth wall is 1.85 to 3. 35m, the maximum tensile strain appears at 2m from the skin element. The maximum tensile strain is increased by the depth of the reinforced earth wall from surface, and increased with the lapse of time after construction. 4.The failure surface of the reinforced earth wall by the concrete skin was about 60$^{\circ}$and the failure behavior of the reinforced earth wall in which the fabric filter was buried was slow, and so the pore pressure could be decreased. 5.It is possible to construct the fabric retained earth wall by the plastic fabric filter only. And the reinforcing effect between the steel plate and the plastic fabric filter is not largely different. however, in the aspect of the economic durability, the plastic fabric filter is more advantageous. 6.The reinforcing action mainly depends on the width and the length of the reinforcing materials, if possible, the full width is advantageous to enlarge the contact area with backfill. but considering the economic aspect, it is neccessary to develop the method controlling the space of the strip.

  • The implicit assumption of port selection studies based on survey and respondents' perceptions is that the preference of the port selection attributes is proportional to the selection behavior. Further, the straight lines of the port selection attributes could also have non-linear properties. This study confirms nonlinear characteristics of selection attributes by using Kano model. The findings of this study showed that several properties of carriers were evaluated as nonlinear characteristics, such as the intermodal links and network accessibility, and size of port and terminal. Hence, port service providers such as port authorities and terminal operating companiesl, should construct a port operation strategy that reflects the non-linear port selection characteristics of shipping companies. Since this study aimed at exploring the forms of port selection characteristics, long-term additional verification studies on ports and stakeholders at domestics and abroad were needed. The Kano model and importance-selection analysis method used for analysis and strategy establishment also need to be improved to capture evident characteristics and to present strategic guidelines.

  • We investigated the contamination and behavior of heavy metals in stream sediments within the watershed of Juam Reservoir. Many abandoned mines within the reservoir can act as a potential contaminant source for water quality. Heavy metal concentrations (Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn) in stream sediments from watershed are very low, indicating that content of heavy metals in the sediments probably do not affect the water quality in Juam Reservoir. However Pb concentration in the stream sediments increases downward streams, suggesting the possible diffusion of Pb contamination. According to the leaching ratio for stream sediments at a strong acidic condition in the abandoned mine areas, the relative mobility for metals decreases in the order of Pb>Zn=Cu>Ni>Cr, indicating that Pb can have a bad effect upon the water quality in Jum Reservoir. Moreover, if contaminated sediment is placed in the bottom of reservoir (i.e., reducing condition), the relative mobility of Pb is the highest, indicating that Pb in the bottom sediments can be leached to water at interface between water and sediment with changing in physicochemical conditions.
