  • This study examined one of the contemporary financial aspects, the level of corporate cash holdings for the firms belonging to the chaebols in the Korean capital markets. Being accompanied by various alternative econometric methodologies such as static and dynamic panel data model, stepwise OLS, and Fama-Macbeth modelm this research extended the preceding Kim's study (2015) in anticipation of validating the results to identify any financial factors which may significantly affect the chaebol firms' cash reserves. Several financial characteristics such as CASHFLOW, MVBV, REINVEST, and AGENCY, were found to be statistically significant factors on the level corporate liquidity, along with CCC as cash conversion cycle in the models. It may be plausible that any outcomes of this study may be applied to enhance the efficiency of financial strategies of the chaebol firms on cash holdings, thereby expediting the development of the domestic capital markets status quo toward the advanced one in the market classification.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relations of innovation and productivity following the introduction of ICT and the effects in the process of innovative investments activity-innovation-productivity, not only by finding causes and effects. For this purpose we conducted surveys of SMEs classified into 7 categories by type of business. To put it concretely, this study was performed to find out the foactors which allow companies to secure competitiveness by enhancing of innovative measures through ICT, and to further analyze the political implications for the development of small and medium-size business by conducting an empirical analysis of the process, from the determination of innovative investments all the way through to production. Analysis model used CDM model using econometric methods such as multiple regression analysis and multinominal logit analysis to produce results. Also we established and analyzed models of innovation investment determinants, innovation determinants and productivity determinants to analyze specifically the relations between ICT and productivity.

  • Gangwon-do has evaluated the result of technical support business and marketing support business separately as a part of enterprise support business, and the evaluation, targeting enterprises, has been restricted to the investigation of satisfaction only. The study develops the model that assesses the efficiency of the enterprises using DEA, the econometric model which is approved the utility in efficiency evaluation, and evaluates it through the model. As a result, the model can be developed to the appropriate variable of the enterprise support business using the elements of input and output in the business. And by using the model of DEA, it is suggested the efficiency measurement of each enterprises' and improvement that inefficient enterprises must have. Especially, it is important to assess the efficiency of supporting enterprises primary.

  • This paper demonstrates empirically that individuals who monitor indicators of their current cardiovascular health status by undergoing medical examinations are more likely to invest in their own health than those who do not observe such monitoring protocols. Using data from the 2001 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of Korea in a structural econometric model, this paper attempts to control the endogeneity problem inherent to the individual decision as to whether to undergo medical examinations, and provides estimation results showing that increased individual health awareness via medical examinations exerts a statistically significant positive effect on health investments. From the policy perspective, the estimation results of this paper may provide a rationale supporting the health policy of free provision of health examination services to the insured via National Health Insurance.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and to forecast the long-term domestic demand and export demand for timber in Korea by regression models with time series data during 1962~1978. The method applied in this study was econometric analysis using Time Series Processor. The most important explanatory variables of timber demand were found to be the production activities of wood products industries to the prices of substitute goods. On the basis of the long-term forecast made according to the guidelines of the Fifth Five-Year Plan. According to the projection, domestic timber demand is projected at 8 million cubic meters in 1987 and 10.6 million cubic meters in 1991. On the other hand, the total demand (domestic demand plus export demand) for timber is projected 21.4 million cubic meters in 1987 and 27.2 million cubic meters in 1991.

  • This paper aims at developing a new index that represents the Korean new growth industries, which is named the Korea Future Technology Index(KOFTI). The KOFTI is designed to provide a reliable and econometric index based on which the Korean government searches for new growth engines. The KOFTI is composed of three individual indexes such as the Economic Impact Index, the Future Strategy Index, and the Technological Influence Index. The KOFTI is applied for 62 star brands, which have been promoted by the Korean government for the korean future industrial competitiveness. The top 13 leading industries are drawn from the calculation of the KOFTI for 62 star brands.

  • This paper documents the increase in earnings variability (or earnings risk) during the 1990s in Korea, and investigates whether it can be accounted for by capital market opening. The variances of transitory and permanent innovations in earnings are estimated from repeated cross-section data using a simple econometric framework. The increasing time-series pattern of earnings risk among men follows the increased foreign capital presence reasonably well, but the supporting cross-sectional evidence for a causal relationship between the two is weak. However, foreign direct investment (FDI) is found to have had some non-neutral effects on workers of varying skills in such a way that transitory earnings risk of less-skilled workers relatively increased with FDI. To the extent that transitory innovations are not fully insured, this widening effect of FDI on earnings risk gap may have contributed to widening welfare gap between skilled and unskilled workers in Korea, at least in terms of "risks."

  • This paper reviews the developments of econometric analysis and seeks a statistical applicability to current economic phenomena. During the last half century, economic analysis has progressed continuously, analyzing and predicting a broad variety of economic phenomena. In the center of this progress lies the remarkable contribution of econometrics and mathematical statistics. New economic research environment has been recently created via developments of IT and the spread of internet and SNSs. Economic phenomena has become increasingly complicated along with more volatile and sophisticated economic analysis. In that context, it can be suggested that there is a need to move beyond current economic paradigms and adapt new approaches such as complex theory and econophysics, all of which posits as a challenge for econometrics and statistics.

  • This study analyzes the long-run impacts of climate change on Korean agriculture and economy. We estimate the impacts of climate change on the productivities of major agricultural products including rice, dairy and livestock using both a simulation approach and a semiparametric econometric model. The former predicts a decline in productivity while the latter predicts an increase in productivity due to climate change, especially for rice. A recursive dynamic CGE model is used to analyze the general equilibrium impacts of productivity change under the two different scenarios, derived from the two productivity analysis approaches. The loss of GDP in 2050 is 0.2% or 0.02% of total GDP depending on the scenario. It is shown that the losses in dairy and livestock sectors are larger than that in rice sector, although the losses in those two non-rice sectors have been ignored by most existing works.

  • The researches about the general flow of new product development process was achieved in various field. But there was little discussion about the methodologies and tools used in that process. So we suggest new DEA model as the methodology that determines sustainable price and quality attributes and this can substitute econometric hedonic methodology. To make smooth surface composed of quality attributes and price, we use QC-DEA model. Additionally we make AR-QC DEA model by introducing AR to reflect consumer perceptions on quality attributes. AR-QC DEA overcomes the limits of parametric methodology and represents product-specific shadow prices, so it is possible to supply the information about quality attributes and price combination in new product development process and to simulate easily whether new product can exist in the market. Finally by empirical research on notebook computer we can show that AR-QC DEA has the ability to explain market change.
