  • The retaining wall with the relieving platform can be constructed as an alternative to the concrete retaining wall in which the economic and stability are decreased as height increases. The relieving platform has the advantage of decreasing the total lateral earth pressure on the retaining wall and increasing the overall stability of the structure. In this study, model tests were performed to determine the distribution of the earth pressure on the retaining wall with and without the relieving platform which located at a depth of 0.4H from the ground surface. And model tests results were compared with analyzed results by 2-D finite element method and values driven from theoretical equation. As the result of this study, comparing model test results with those of numerical analysis and theoretical equation show that the reduction of the lateral earth pressure on wall was indicated clearly on the retaining wall with a relieving platform.

  • The active earth pressure on the retaining wall is reduced by 3-Dimensional effects of the ground. Therefore, the test was focused on reducing the earth pressure on the retaining wall by inserting the vertical reinforcement in the backfill ground to develope the 3-Dimensional effects. Model tests in sand were peformed to measure the 3-Dimensional effects of the vertical reinforcement on the active earth pressure and its distribution and results were compared with the theories. The size of the vertical reinforcement, the geometry of the backfill space, and the wall friction of vertical reinforcement were varied. It was observed that the active earth pressure and its distribution on the underground structure were affected by the size of the vertical reforcements and wall friction.

  • The retaining wall is a structure which was made for changing land form in many construction. The first role of the retaining wall is to maintain the slope stability. But recently, the amount of retaining wall have been increasing because of the expansion of construction works and the amenity of urban environment have been decreasing because of environmental destruction and the scenic heterogeneity. So we should consider the slope stability and ecological stability at the same time. The purpose of this study is to develop the retaining wall revegetation technology using the Eco-Stone, the structure of co-satisfying which included the slope stability and the revegetation effect. Eco-Stone is a structure which has high stability for earth pressure, settlement and drainage. And cost and term of construction works also have been decreased. Eco-Stone structure is one of factors composing the ecological network which is harmonize with surrounding environment. In this way, it is expected that the ecological habitats of various species would be restored.

  • Recently despite the development of analysis program and construction technologies, collapse at the many earth retaining wall construction site of the structure due to the economic and human damage has occurred. The results of geothechnical investigation studies field, it was found to differ from the results of the original design. There may be errors parameters calculated from the results of ground investigation in such a case. And it can be estimated that it is irrational to behavior analysis of the earth retaining wall were analyzed by utilizing the parameters. And in this study, parameters that affect the earth retaining wall the correlations were analyzed using elasto-plastic method. Analysis method was changed various parameters (cohesion, subgrade reaction coefficient, load condition) applied to the elasto-plastic method. And due to a change in the behavior of earth retaining wall materials were analyzed. As a result, the cohesion greatly affects the behavior of earth retaining wall materials in various parameters. For this reason, the results of the geothechnical investigation, confirmation of the actual ground is very important in the design of the earth retaining wall. And, calculating accurate and reasonable of the cohesion of the various parameters is very important.

  • In urban areas, structures are installed deep underground in the lower part of the structure to utilize space. Therefore, a retaining wall is used to prevent earth pressure from the ground when constructing a structure. Due to the development of construction technology, retaining wall applied to excavation work are used to prevent danger such as falling rocks and landslides in temporary facilities when construction or retaining walls are installed. In general, the application of a retaining wall to a temporary facility during the embankment construction is the case of expanding an existing roads or railways. Therefore, it is necessary to study the retaining wall applied to the embankment construction such as the double-track site of the high-speed railway. In this study, two types of common one row H-pile retaining wall and two types of IER retaining wall were analyzed, and the stability of the retaining wall applied to the construction of double-track of the high-speed railway was analyzed. The earth retaining wall is a construction method that combines forced pile applied to the stabilization of the slope with the wall of the earth retaining wall. As a result of the analysis, the IER retaining wall had maximum lateral displacement of 19.0% compared to the type with H-plie installed only in the front while dynamic load was applied. In addition, the slower the speed of high-speed railway, the more displacement occurred, and the results show that more caution is needed when designing the ground in low-speed sections.

  • The behavior of the dry-stone masonry retaining structure has been investigated via physical model test and numerical simulation. In the model test, the digital image analysis using PIV technique was employed to measure horizontal displacements in the backfill soils and retaining blocks. For finite element numerical analyses, the commercial code, ABAQUS, was used. The horizontal displacements observed in the model test showed that the development of the failure surface is progressive. Numerical results showed that in most cases horizontal earth pressure is distributed similarly to a conventional Rankine’s distribution. However, lower values of the internal friction angle of the backfill soils and interface friction angle in the front blocks produce irregularly nonlinear distribution of the horizontal earth pressure.

  • The construction of earth retaining wall and structure which get environmental element have to appling at the same time, then construction period and construction cost increase. These system which is presented to overcomes shortcoming and have function of earth retaining wall and retention wall at the same time. However, because existing method has limit excavation depth, the advanced design pattern more than existing method, rows of pile was applied. The workability and stability of applied design method are evaluated through analyze of construction case. The results confirmed that application design method can solve displacement of pile and limit excavation depth in existing earth retaining wall.

  • In this study, a new soil retaining system was proposed by soil cement mixing method. The new soil retaining system is based on deep cement mixing method by large diameter reinforcing blocks (piles). Large diameter reinforcing blocks (usually $\varnothing$300-500 mm) have the advantage to make reinforcements over a relatively short depth and thus reduce the amount of reinforcement necessary. A field case has been reviewed for actual application of the soil retaining system at a downtown site. Research was conducted to evaluate the behavior of the installed soil retaining wall, with reinforcing blocks (400 mm in diameter and 4 m in length) placed into a 10 m excavation wall at a $20^{\circ}$ angle. As a result, the potential for applying this method to the downtown excavation site was confirmed.
