Hardware Design of High Performance In-loop Filter in HEVC Encoder for Ultra HD Video Processing in Real Time (UHD 영상의 실시간 처리를 위한 고성능 HEVC In-loop Filter 부호화기 하드웨어 설계)

  • This paper proposes a high-performance in-loop filter in HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) encoder for Ultra HD video processing in real time. HEVC uses in-loop filter consisting of deblocking filter and SAO(Sample Adaptive Offset) to solve the problems of quantization error which causes image degradation. In the proposed in-loop filter encoder hardware architecture, the deblocking filter and SAO has a 2-level hybrid pipeline structure based on the $32{\times}32CTU$ to reduce the execution time. The deblocking filter is performed by 6-stage pipeline structure, and it supports minimization of memory access and simplification of reference memory structure using proposed efficient filtering order. Also The SAO is implemented by 2-statge pipeline for pixel classification and applying SAO parameters and it uses two three-layered parallel buffers to simplify pixel processing and reduce operation cycle. The proposed in-loop filter encoder architecture is designed by Verilog HDL, and implemented by 205K logic gates in TSMC 0.13um process. At 110MHz, the proposed in-loop filter encoder can support 4K Ultra HD video encoding at 30fps in realtime.

Low Complexity Video Encoding Using Turbo Decoding Error Concealments for Sensor Network Application (센서네트워크상의 응용을 위한 터보 복호화 오류정정 기법을 이용한 경량화 비디오 부호화 방법)

  • In conventional video coding, the complexity of encoder is much higher than that of decoder. However, as more needs arises for extremely simple encoder in environments having constrained energy such as sensor network, much investigation has been carried out for eliminating motion prediction/compensation claiming most complexity and energy in encoder. The Wyner-Ziv coding, one of the representative schemes for the problem, reconstructs video at decoder by correcting noise on side information using channel coding technique such as turbo code. Since the encoder generates only parity bits without performing any type of processes extracting correlation information between frames, it has an extremely simple structure. However, turbo decoding errors occur in noisy side information. When there are high-motion or occlusion between frames, more turbo decoding errors appear in reconstructed frame and look like Salt & Pepper noise. This severely deteriorates subjective video quality even though such noise rarely occurs. In this paper, we propose a computationally extremely light encoder based on symbol-level Wyner-Ziv coding technique and a new corresponding decoder which, based on a decision whether a pixel has error or not, applies median filter selectively in order to minimize loss of texture detail from filtering. The proposed method claims extremely low encoder complexity and shows improvements both in subjective quality and PSNR. Our experiments have verified average PSNR gain of up to 0.8dB.

  • this paper, we propose a flexible, reusable, and extensible HL7 encoding and decoding framework using a Message Object Model (MOM) and Message Definition Repository (MDR). The MOM provides an abstract HL7 message form represented by a group of objects and their relationships. It reflects logical relationships among the standard HL7 message elements such as segments, fields, and components, while enforcing the key structural constraints imposed by the standard. Since the MOM completely eliminates the dependency of the HL7 encoder and decoder on platform-specific data formats, it makes it possible to build the encoder and decoder as reusable standalone software components, enabling the interconnection of arbitrary heterogeneous hospital information systems(HISs) with little effort. Moreover, the MDR, an external database of key definitions for HL7 messages, helps make the encoder and decoder as resilient as possible to future modifications of the standard HL7 message formats. It is also used by the encoder and decoder to perform a well formedness check for their respective inputs (i. e., HL7 message objects expressed in the MOM and encoded HL7 message strings). Although we implemented a prototype version of the encoder and decoder using JAVA, they can be easily packaged and delivered as standalone components using the standard component frameworks like ActiveX, JAVABEAN, or CORBA component.

  • This paper proposes high-performance SAO(Sample Adaptive Offset) in HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) encoder for Ultra HD video processing in real time. SAO is a newly adopted technique belonging to the in-loop filter in HEVC. The proposed SAO encoder hardware architecture uses three-layered buffers to minimize memory access time and to simplify pixel processing and also uses only adder, subtractor, shift register and feed-back comparator to reduce area. Furthermore, the proposed architecture consists of pipelined pixel classification and applying SAO parameters, and also classifies four consecutive pixels into EO and BO concurrently. These result in the reduction of processing time and computation. The proposed SAO encoder architecture is designed by Verilog HDL, and implemented by 180k logic gates in TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ process. At 110MHz, the proposed SAO encoder can support 4K Ultra HD video encoding at 30fps in real time.

  • A parallel concatenated convolutional coding scheme consists of two constituent systematic convolutional encoders linked by an interleaver.   • The modem multimedia applications which are video Processor, video conference or video phone and so forth require real time processing. Because of a large amount of image data, those require high compression performance. In this paper, the proposed image processing encoder was designed by using wavelet transform encoding. The proposed filter block can process image data on tile high speed because of composing individual function blocks by parallel and compute both highpass and lowpass coefficient in the same clock cycle. When image data is decomposed into multiresolution, the proposed scheme needs external memory and controller to save intermediate results and it can operate within 33㎒.

  • In this paper, a instantaneous speed measurement method using a three phase sinusoidal encoder is described and it's simulations are developed. The proposed method can easily detect the AC motor speed by using that the encoder is propotion to the AC motor speed. The performance of proposed method is confirmed by computer simulation and experiment results. The high accuracy of the optimum control system, AC motor speed detection is designed and proposed.

  • In the speed control system of motors using the low resolution rotary encoder, the period of encoder pulse becomes longer than the sampling time for speed control in the range of very low speed. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain accurate speed information. In this paper, the speed estimating method at the very low speed region using reduced order torque observer, which has been widely used, is examined. The results of simulation show that the characteristics of the speed control at the very low speed region is improved by using the reduced order torque observer.

  • 이 논문에서는 Encoder, Gyro, 다수의 IR센서를 이용한 실내용 이동로봇의 자기위치 추정에 관한 방법 중 첫 번째 실험으로 다수의 IR센서로부터 획득한 거리데이터를 이용하여 작성한 환경지도에서 모서리를 검출하고, 이를 바탕으로 각 센서에서 측정된 데이터를 병합하도록 하였다. 마지막으로 얻어진 환경지도와 실제 환경을 비교하여 그 성능을 평가하였다.
