  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the safety of Houttuynia cordata Thunb extract (HCE) in Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice, to determine the effects of the extract on the growth performance and colony count, and to establish the optimal concentration of HCE. In total, 60 five-week-old male ICR mice with an average initial body weight (BW) of 27.24 ± 0.44 g were used in a four-week experiment. Mice were randomly allotted to four treatment groups (five replications per group, three mice per cage): 1) a control (CON) group fed with normal distilled water; 2) treatment group 1 (T1) fed with normal distilled water containing 0.05% HCE; 3) treatment group 3 (T3) fed with normal distilled water containing 0.1% HCE; and 4) treatment group 3 (T3) fed with normal distilled water containing 0.2% HCE. BW, feed intake (FI), and water intake were measured on the first, fourteenth, and eighteenth days. T2 showed a significant improvement (p < 0.05) in the feed conversion ratio (FCR) over the experimental period. However, water intake levels did not show significant differences among the groups. In the large intestine and feces, E. coli and Lactobacillus levels were significantly improved (p < 0.05) in the HCE treated group compared to the CON group. Supplying HCE via the drinking water improved the growth performance and colony count in ICR mice. Based on results of this study, utilizing HCE in livestock species is expected to be safe and feasible.

  • The aim of this study was to assess gender difference in the association of obesity and abdominal obesity and chronic kidney disease(CKD). The study subjects were Korean adults 20 years or older(n=9,409) who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013-2014. In men, after adjusting for relevant variables, the Odds ratio(OR) of CKD[estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR) < 60ml/min/1.73m2] with a normal weight group[body mass index(BMI) < 23.0kg/m2], as a reference were significant for the obesity[BMI ≥ 25.0kg/m2, 1.83(95% CI, 1.20-2.80)], but abdominal obesity[waist measurement(WM) ≥ 90cm, 1.30(95% CI, 0.89-1.89)] group compared to the normal group(WM < 90cm) was not significant. However, in women, the OR of CKD with a normal group(WM < 80cm) as a reference were significant for the abdominal obesity[WM ≥ 80cm, 1.52(95% CI, 1.52-2.28)] group, but obesity group[1.37(95% CI, 0.89-2.11)] compared to the normal weight group was not significant. In conclusion, the obesity in Korean men and abdominal obesity in women were positively associated with CKD.

  • The squeal vibration of a drum is the major source of brake noise. In this system the binary flutter model of squeal vibration was employed for the drum brake of a passenger car. The vibration analysis of a drum brake was performed by using normal modes, which are obtained by variational method. An improved method for the estimation of shoe modes is proposed and the results are compared with the exact solutions. Numerical results for the coupled system of drum and shoes good agreement with the results of experimental model analysis and those obtained by FE analysis.

  • A new method, the Triple I method is proposed for solving the problem of fuzzy reasoning. The Triple I method for solving fuzzy modus ponens is compared with the CRI method i.e., Compositional Rule of Inference and reasonableness of the Triple I method is clarified. Moreover the Triple I method can be generalized to provide a theory of sustentation degrees. Lastly, the Triple I method can be bring into the framework of classic logics.

  • Iterative algorithms are proposed for the least-squares symmetric solution of AXB = E with a submatrix constraint. We characterize the linear mappings from their independent element space to the constrained solution sets, study their properties and use these properties to propose two matrix iterative algorithms that can find the minimum and quasi-minimum norm solution based on the classical LSQR algorithm for solving the unconstrained LS problem. Numerical results are provided that show the efficiency of the proposed methods.

  • A new quantitative method was developed for separation of three interactive physiological factors (hepatic glucose balance, peripheral tissue's insulin resistivity, and insulin secretion rate) influencing glucose intolerance in diabetic mellitus using an equivalent circuit model and the intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) in six dogs and twenty two humans. The results show that the estimated model parameters of the above three factors are useful for evaluating different glucose-insulin kinetics in normal and diabetic subjects.

  • In this study, by using Laplace and normal Laplace operators, we give some characterizations for the Darboux instantaneous rotation vector field of the curves in the Euclidean 3-space $E^3$. Further, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for unit speed space curves to have 1-type Darboux vectors. Moreover, we obtain some characterizations of helices according to Darboux vector.

  • In this paper, we consider two-component Bose-Einstein condensates with an internal atomic Josephson junction in the general case, i.e., 0 < p < $\frac{2}{(d-2)^+}$. We prove existence and uniqueness results for the ground states, and obtain some properties of the ground states with large parameters.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the bond properties of deformed bars in hign-strength concrete by experimental and analytical method. In this study the following variables were adopted, i.e. (1) the compressive strength of concrete : 270, 400 and 600kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ (2) the corrosion the bars : corroded and normal bars (3) the mixing ratio of natural and smashed fine aggregate : 7 : 3 and 5 : 5 (natural sand : smashed sand) For analytical method, the finite element analysis is performed. And the Pull-out test is performed as the experimental method.
