  • This paper combines fuzzy concepts with an existing dynamic performance isolation technique in order to improve the response time performance of a Web server supporting differentiated services. A load balancing mechanism based on the fuzzy control technique is developed in such a way that ambiguous situations caused by workload estimation of cluster-based Web servers, client request rates, and dynamic request rates can be represented in an effective way. In addition, we verify that the fuzzy-based performance isolation technique improves the performance and robustness of differentiated service systems efficiently through comparing 95-percentile of response time between the fuzzy-based Performance isolation technique and the existing one, which do not use the fuzzy concept.

  • A femtocell network has been attracting attention as a promising solution for providing high data rate transmission over the conventional cellular network in an indoor environment. In this paper, we propose a distributed power control algorithm considering both indoor coverage and data load balancing in the femtocell network. As data traffic varies by time and location according to user distribution, each femto base station suffers from an unbalanced data load, which may degrade network performance. To distribute the data load, the base stations are required to adjust their transmission power dynamically. Since there are a number of base stations in practice, we propose a distributed power control algorithm. In addition, we propose the simple algorithm to detect the faulty base station and to recover coverage. We also explain how to insert a new base station into a deployed network. We present the simulation results to evaluate the proposed algorithms.

  • In this paper, a load balancing method using ring network structure in the Grid database is proposed. In the Grid database, generally, data is replicated for performance and availability. And, user's request is transferred to node and processed in that node which has target data. But, in such environment, a decline of performance can be occurred because unbalanced workload. A traditional research is proposed to solve unbalanced load problem. However, the Grid database has a number of systems and user's request always changes dynamically. Therefore, a traditional research can not be applied. The proposed method connects each node which has a same replicated data through ing network structure. If workload is overflowed in some node, user's request is transferred to a linked node which has a target data. And, this node stops another request processing until workload is decreased. Then, it changes the link structure through sending a message to a previous node, to stop request forwarding from a previous node. This paper shows a proposed method increases performance than existing research through performance evaluation and is more suitable for a complex and dynamic environment.

  • Mobile computing environment makes it possible for computing activities to be maintained during movement even if a user changes its network point of attachment. Mobile IP is a standard protocol designed to be used in such mobile computing environment. However, Mobile IP has a drawback to incur a lot of handoff delays and waste network resources, since CoA(Care of Address) registration packets need to go through a HA(Home Agent) first whenever a mobile node moves. To solve this long-standing problem, this paper proposes a new scheme that, for infra-domain movement, efficiently performs local handoff without notifying the HA Specifically, based on the notion of load balance, the proposed scheme allows every FA(Foreign Agent) in a domain to become the root FA(also known as domain FA) dynamically, thus distributing the registration task into many other foreign agents. The dynamic root assignment through load balancing ultimately leads to fast network response due to less frequent transmission of registration packets.

  • This paper deals with the performance analysis of static compensator (STATCOM) based voltage regulator for selfexcited induction generators (SEIGs) supplying balanced/unbalanced and linear/ non-linear loads. In practice, most of the loads are linear. But the presence of non-linear loads in some applications injects harmonics into the generating system. Because an SEIG is a weak isolated system, these harmonics have a great effect on its performance. Additionally, SEIG's offer poor voltage regulation and require an adjustable reactive power source to maintain a constant terminal voltage under a varying load. A three-phase insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) based current controlled voltage source inverter (CC- VSI) known as STATCOM is used for harmonic elimination. It also provides the required reactive power an SEIG needs to maintain a constant terminal voltage under varying loads. A dynamic model of an SEIG-STATCOM system with the ability to simulate varying loads has been developed using a stationary d-q axes reference frame. This enables us to predict the behavior of the system under transient conditions. The simulated results show that by using a STATCOM based voltage regulator the SEIG terminal voltage can be maintained constant and free from harmonics under linear/non linear and balanced/unbalanced loads.

  • One of the challenging tasks in Mobile Ad hoc Network is to discover precise optimal routing solution due to the infrastructure-less dynamic behavior of wireless mobile nodes. Ant Colony Optimization, a swarm Intelligence technique, inspired by the foraging behaviour of ants in colonies was used in the past research works to compute the optimal path. In this paper, we propose a Recurrent Ant Colony Optimization (RECACO) that executes the actual Ant Colony Optimization iteratively based on recurrent value in order to obtain an optimal path convergence. Each iteration involves three steps: Pheromone tracking, Pheromone renewal and Node selection based on the residual energy in the mobile nodes. The novelty of our approach is the inclusion of new pheromone updating strategy in both online step-by-step pheromone renewal mode and online delayed pheromone renewal mode with the use of newly proposed metric named ELD (Energy Load Delay) based on energy, Load balancing and end-to-end delay metrics to measure the performance. RECACO is implemented using network simulator NS2.34. The implementation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithms like AODV, ACO, LBE-ARAMA in terms of Energy, Delay, Packet Delivery Ratio and Network life time.

  • The dynamic balancing test of helicopter main rotor blades is a blade rotation test conducted on the ground to make the track of each blade and the load on each pitch rod to a similar level before the flight tests. The purpose of the test is to reduce the vibration occurring on main rotor system as a result of dissimilarity of each blade. The RTB test has been performed for a long period at Whirl Tower Test Facility located in Goheung Flight Centre, accumulating its data. As the amount of the results has become increasingly enormous the needs for the development of database system has been raised to manage the data with effective method. This research aimed to describe the development of Dynamic-Balancing Database System for the RTB test results. For the design of the database system the informations of RTB test results have been categorized into properties, connecting each others according to its logical meaning, and comprised into a database system with relational elements. It has been shown in this paper that the Dynamic Balancing database system enables to effectively accumulate the RTB test data and to be utilized for the data analysis.

  • This paper presents the design of an implantable stimulation IC intended for neural prosthetic devices using $0.18-{\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology. The proposed single-channel biphasic current stimulator prototype is designed to deliver up to 1 mA of current to the tissue-equivalent $10-k{\Omega}$ load using 12.8-V supply voltage. To utilize only low-voltage standard CMOS transistors in the design, transistor stacking with dynamic gate biasing technique is used for reliable operation at high-voltage. In addition, active charge balancing circuit is used to maintain zero net charge at the stimulation site over the complete stimulation cycle. The area of the total stimulator IC consisting of DAC, current stimulation output driver, level-shifters, digital logic, and active charge balancer is $0.13mm^2$ and is suitable to be applied for multi-channel neural prosthetic devices.

  • In this paper simulations for the impact into ceramics and/or metal materials have been discussed. To model discrete nature for fracture and damage of brittle materials, we implemented cohesive-law fracture model with a node separation algorithm for the tensile failure and Mohr-Coulomb model for the compressive loading. The drawback of this scheme is that it requires a heavy computational time. This is because new nodes are generated continuously whenever a new crack surface is created. In order to reduce the amount of calculation, parallelization with MPI library has been implemented. For the high-speed impact problems, the mesh configuration and contact calculation changes continuously as time step advances and it causes unbalance of computational load of each processor. Dynamic load balancing technique which re-allocates the loading dynamically is used to achieve good parallel performance. Some impact problems have been simulated and the parallel performance and accuracy of the solutions are discussed.
