Traditional tactile controls that include push buttons and rotary switches may cause significant visual and biomechanical distractions if they are located away from the driver's line of sight and hand position, for example, on the central console. Gestural controls, as an alternative to traditional controls, are natural and can reduce visual distractions; however, their types and numbers are limited and have no feedback. To overcome the problems, a driver interface combining gestures and visual feedback with a head-up display has been proposed recently. In this paper, we investigated the effect of this type of interface in terms of driving performance measures. Human-in-the-loop experiments were conducted using a driving simulator with the traditional tactile and the new gesture-based interfaces. The experimental results showed that the new interface caused less visual distractions, better gap control between ego and target vehicles, and better recognition of road conditions comparing to the traditional one.

Head-Up Display system makes it possible for the driver to be informed of important vehicle data such as vehicle speed, engine RPM or navigation data without taking the driver's eyes off the road. Long focal length optics, LCD with bright illumination, image generator and vehicle interface controllers are key parts of head-up display system. All these parts have been designed, developed and applied to the test vehicle. Virtual images are located about 2m ahead of the driver's eye by projecting it onto the windshield just below the driver's line of sight. Developed head-up display system shows satisfactory results for future commercialization.
The AUTOSAR(AUTOmotive Open System ARchitecture) is an open software platform for automotive. The AUTOSAR contains the modules of FlexRay that is the next generation automotive network protocol. We have developed the modules including FlexRay State Manager, FlexRay Transport, FlexRay Interface, FlexRay Transceiver Driver and FlexRay Driver based on the standard of the module. This thesis presented not only the result of development but the result of design and implementation. And the developed modules were ported to the microcontroller board and verified.

Human driver monitoring system is one of the most important systems for the safety in driving vehicles, and therefore driver assistance system has gained much attention during the last decade. This paper proposed an intelligent driver assistance system which monitors human driver's states from bio-signals such as ECG and Blood Pressure. The proposed system used mamdani fuzzy inference to evaluate the driver's mental strain and generated warning signals to the driver. The approach using bio-signals in driver assistance system is the main issue of the related systems and the preliminary results showed the possibility of further research topics in developing more intelligent embedded systems with bio-signal feedback.

There has been recent interest in intelligent vehicle technologies, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) or in-vehicle information systems (IVISs) that offer a significant enhancement of safety and convenience to drivers and passengers. However, unsuitable design of HMI (Human Machine Interface) must increase driver distraction and workload, which in turn increase the chance of traffic accidents. Distraction in particular often occurs under a heavy driving workload due to multitasking with various electronic devices like a cell phone or a navigation system while driving. According to the 2005 road traffic accidents in Korea report published by the ROad Traffic Authority (ROTA), more than 60% of the traffic accidents are related to driver error caused by distraction. This paper suggests the structure of vehicle environment for real-time driving behavior monitoring system while driving which is can be used the driver workload management systems (DWMS). On-road experiment results showed the feasibility of the suggested vehicle environment for driving behavior monitoring system.
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the system to integrate and manage the in-vehicle interactions between the drivers and the in-vehicle mobile IT devices. Background: As the mobile IT technology is being used anywhere, the drivers are interacting with the mobile IT device on driving situations. The distraction of the driver's attention causes the car accidents. It is necessary to develop the HVI(Human Vehicle Interface System) to integrate and manage the in-vehicle interactions with IT devices. Method: The HVI System is designed not as the interfacing subject but as the supervising system to monitor the driver's status and support the driver to concentrate on the primary tasks. The HVI system collects the status information of the car and driver and estimate the driving workload. Results: The HVI system controls how to provide the output information based on the driving workload. We implemented the HVI system prototype and applied in the real vehicle with the HVI cell phone and the HVI car navigation system. Conclusion: Depending on the driving situations, the HVI system prevented the information output in dangerous situation and diversified the modality and the intensity of the output information. Application: We will extend the HVI system to be connected the other various IT devices and verity the effectiveness of the system through various experiments.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Implant drivers are getting popular in clinical dentistry. Unlike to implant systems with external hex connection, implant drivers directly engage the implant/abutment interface. The deformation of the implant/abutment interface can be introduced while placing an implant with its implant driver in clinical situations. PURPOSE. This study evaluated the change of rotational freedom between an implant and its abutment after application of different insertion torques. MATERIAL AND METHODS. Three kinds of internal connection implants were utilized for the current study($4.5{\times}12\;mm$ Xive, $4.3{\times}11.5\;mm$ Inplant Magicgrip, $4.3{\times}12\;mm$ Implantium MF). An EstheticBase, a 2-piece top, a Dual abutment was used for its corresponding implant system. The rotational freedom between an implant and its abutment were measured before and after applying 45, 100 Ncm insertion torque. Repeated measures ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS. Under 45 Ncm insertion torque, the rotational freedom between an implant and its abutment was significantly increased in Xive(P = .003). However, no significant change was noted in Inplant Magicgrip and Implantium MF. Under 100 Ncm torque, both in Xive(P = .0005) and Implatium MF(P = .03) resulted in significantly increased rotational freedom between the implant and its abutment. DISCUSSION. The design of the implant/implant driver interface effectively prevented the deformation of implant/abutment interface. Little change was noted in the rotational freedom between an implant and its abutment, even though the insertion torque was far beyond clinical application. CONCLUSIONS. The implant/abutment joint of internally connecting implants were quite stable under insertion torque in clinical situation.
Driving simulations were performed to evaluate the effect of providing both visual information and body sensory information on changes in steering characteristics and the amount of perspiration in drift cornering. When the driver is provided with body sensory information and visual information, the amount of perspiration increases and the driver can perform drift control with a moderate level of tension. With visual information only, the driver tends to easily go into a spin because drift control is difficult. In this case, the amount of perspiration increases greatly as compared with the case where body sensory information is also provided, reflecting a very high perception of risk. When body sensory information is provided, the driver can control drift adequately, feeding back the roll angle information in steering. The importance of the driver's perception of the state of the vehicle was thus confirmed, and a desirable future direction for driver assistance systems was determined.
This paper proposes an adaptive multimodal in-vehicle information system for safe driving. The proposed system filters input information based on both the priority assigned to the information and the given driving situation, to effectively manage input information and intelligently provide information to the driver. It then interacts with the driver using an adaptive multimodal interface by considering both the driving workload and the driver's cognitive reaction to the information it provides. It is shown experimentally that the proposed system can promote driver safety and enhance a driver's understanding of the information it provides by filtering the input information. In addition, the system can reduce a driver's workload by selecting an appropriate modality and corresponding level with which to communicate. An analysis of subjective questionnaires regarding the proposed system reveals that more than 85% of the respondents are satisfied with it. The proposed system is expected to provide prioritized information through an easily understood modality.
