  • Among the non-traditional machining methods, Abrasive waterjet machining process shows big promise in drilling difficult-to-machine materials due to its numerous advantages such as absence of heat affect zone and thermal distortion. Acoustic emission signal technique is used to understand about material removal mechanisms during abrasive waterjet drilling process. More information about the drilling process is derived through frequency decomposition of auto regressive moving average modeling representing acoustic emission signals.

근접 깊은 굴착에서 천공장비에 의한 지반교란 특성 사례 연구 (Case Study of Ground Disturbance Characteristic due to Drilling Machine in Adjacent Deep Excavation)

  • Deep excavations in the urban areas have been frequently going on in large scale. Soil-nailing and Earth-anchor supporting methods are generally used in deep excavation. These construction methods cause ground disturbances during drilling process, and damages of adjacent structures and ground due to the differential settlement throughout construction period, and unexpected behaviors of supporting system according to the characteristics of drilling machine and ground condition. This article introduces two actual examples of adjacent deep excavation for the construction of university buildings in granitic Seoul area. The important results of construction and measurements obtained using Crawler drilling machine for Soil-nailing and Earth-anchor supporting methods are summarized. And some suggestions are given to improve and develop the technique of design and construction in the deep excavation projects having similar ground condition and supporting method.

드릴링 M/C의 Chatter 해석과 동적안정성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Chatter Analysis & Dynamic Stability of Drilling Mchine)

  • This study is carried out to estimate the influence of cutting speed on the dynamic stability of a drilling machine. The theoretical stabilityu chart is constructed by using the measurd dynamic characteristics of the drilling machine. The critical cutting width and speed predicted from the stability chart show excellent agreements with those measured. Therefore it is confirmed that the analysis technique used in this study is useful for the prediction of the dynamic instability and improvement of the dynamic characteristics of drilling machines.

  • 본 논문은 해양구조물 rig의 굴착시스템의 하부 부분의 3차원 모델링과 굴착과정의 시뮬레이션에 있다. 최근 조선사들은 높은 부가가치성과 신조의 감소로 인해 해양구조물 rig에 관심이 집중되고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 경우 해양구조물 rig의 기본 설계, 설치 및 운영은 외국회사들이 수행하고 있다. 따라서 굴착에 대한 지식과 정보를 얻기가 쉽지 않다. 본 논문에서는 해양구조물 rig의 핵심장비로 굴착장비, 폭발방지장치인 BOP, 시멘트 작업 및 머드 순환 장치 관련 장비들을 포함하였다. 이들의 구조와 기능은 객체지향기술 관점에서 분석하였다. 이 분석에 기초하여 3차원 소프트웨어 도구인 CATIA와 3DVIA Composer 를 이용하여 이 장비들을 모델링하였다. 굴착과정은 굴착작업의 시나리오에 따라 시뮬레이션되었다. 이 시뮬레이션 시스템은 해양플랜트 산업분야의 엔지니어와 학생들에게 교육도구로 유용하게 활용될 수 있다.

Experimental and numerical FEM of woven GFRP composites during drilling

  • This paper investigates experimentally and numerically the influence of drilling process on the mechanical and thermomechanical behaviors of woven glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite plate. Through the experimental analysis, a CNC machine with cemented carbide drill (point angles 𝜙=118° and 6 mm diameter) was used to drill a woven GFRP laminated squared plate with a length of 36.6 mm and different thicknesses. A produced temperature during drilling "heat affected zone (HAZ)" was measured by two different procedures using thermal IR camera and thermocouples. A thrust force and cutting torque were measured by a Kistler 9272 dynamometer. The delamination factors were evaluated by the image processing technique. Finite element model (FEM) has been developed by using LS-Dyna to simulate the drilling processing and validate the thrust force and torque with those obtained by experimental technique. It is found that, the present finite element model has the capability to predict the force and torque efficiently at various drilling conditions. Numerical parametric analysis is presented to illustrate the influences of the speeding up, coefficient of friction, element type, and mass scaling effects on the calculated thrust force, torque and calculation's cost. It is found that, the cutting time can be adjusted by drilling parameters (feed, speed, and specimen thickness) to control the induced temperature and thus, the force, torque and delamination factor in drilling GFRP composites. The delamination of woven GFRP is accompanied with edge chipping, spalling, and uncut fibers.

인도네시아 석탄층 메탄가스(CBM) 저류층 특성을 고려한 시추·완결·자극 기법 선정 연구 (Selection Technique of Drilling, Completion, and Stimulation Considering Reservoir Characteristics of Coalbed Methane Reservoir, Indonesia)

  • 효율적인 석탄층 메탄가스(coalbed methane, CBM) 개발을 위해 저류층 특성이 잘 알려진 미국의 대표적인 석탄층 메탄가스 개발 분지인 산 후안(San Juan), 블랙 워리어(Black Warrior), 파우더 리버(Powder River)지역의 시추(drilling) 완결(completion) 자극(stimulation) 기법을 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 인도네시아 바리토(Baritio)분지에서 최적의 석탄층 메탄가스 개발 기법을 제안하였다. 이와 같은 저류층 특성에 따른 개발/생산기법 연계분석은 인도네시아 석탄층 메탄가스 저류층 특성을 고려한 경제적이고 효과적인 시추 완결 자극 기법 선정에 도움이 될 것으로 예상된다.

  • In recent years, CFRP composite materials have been increasingly used in various fields of engineering because of a high specific strength and stiffness properties. Drilling is one of the most impo rtant cutting processes that are generally carried out on CFRP materials owing to the need for the structural integration. However, delamination are often occurred as one of the drilling damages. Therefore, there are needs studying for the relationships between CFRP drilling and delamination in order to avoid low strength of the structures and inaccuracies of the integration. In this study, AE signals and thrust forces were used for the evaluations of the delamination from a drilling process in [0/900]s CFRP materials. And the drilling damage processes were observed and measured by a real time monitoring technique with a video camera. From the results, we found that the relationships between the delamination from drilling and AE characteristics and drill thrust forces for [0/900]s CFRP composites. Also, we proposed the monitoring method for a visual analysis of drilling damages.

코어드릴링에 의한 중성화 신속평가 방법을 이용한 콘크리트 구조물의 중성화 현장 적용성 평가 (Field Application of Rapid Neutralization Assessment Method Using Core Drilling in Concrete Structures)

  • In this paper, we aimed to develop a new method for diagnosing the depth of neutralization in architectural and civil engineering structures using the core drilling method, which combines the speed of drilling with the accuracy of core ringing. When compared to the drilling method, the core drilling method showed a lower measurement deviation of 1-2mm (7.6%) in confirming the depth of neutralization. This is believed to be a result of potential interference during the sample collection process in the drilling method, where the drill may pass through aggregates, leading to overestimation, as indicated in previous studies. The rapid evaluation of neutralization using the core drilling method serves as an alternative to address the issues associated with both drilling and core ringing methods in diagnosing the depth of neutralization. It offers a solution to the inaccuracy caused by coarse aggregates and the cumbersome post-processing steps required for neutralization diagnosis. Our proposed technique aims to provide an accurate and expedited diagnosis of neutralization depth without the need for additional processes.

CFRP의 드릴작업시 AE적용에 의한 손상평가 (The Damage Evaluation for the Application of Acoustic Emission in a Drilling Procedure of the CFRP Composite Materials)

  • The carbon fiber reinforced plastics(CFRP) have been widely used in aircraft and spacecraft structures as well as sports goods because it has high specific strength, high specific stiffness and low coefficient of thermal expansion. Machining of CFRP poses problems not frequently seen for metals due to the nonhomogeneity, anisotropy, and abrasive characteristics of CFRP. Delamination is a common problem faced while drilling holes in CFRP using conventional drilling. Therefore, AE characteristics related to drilling damage process of unidirectional and [0/90/]s crossply laminate composite was studied. Also drilling damage like the delamination was observed by video camera in real time monitoring technique. From the results, we basically found the relationships between the delamination from drilling and AE characteristics for CFRP composites.
