  • The objective of this study is to provide with the hydro-meteological and probabilistic characteristics of the storms of typhoons that have been passed through the Korean peninsula during the last twenty-three years since 1961. The paths and intensities of the typhoons were analyzed. Fifty weather stations were selected and the rainfall data during typhoon periods were collected. Rainfall data were analyzed for the patterns and probabilistic distributions. The results were presented to describe the areal distributions of probabilistic characteristics. The results obtained from this study can be summarized as follows: 1. The most frequent typhoon path that has passed through the Korean peninsula was type E, followed by types CWE, W, WE, and S. The most frequent typhoon intensity was type B, followed by A, super A, and e types, respectively. 2. The third quartile typhoon rainfall patterns appear most frequently followed by the second, first, and last quartiles, respectively, in Seoul, Pusan, Taegu, Kwangju and Taejon. The single typhoon rainfalls with long rainfall durations tended to show delayed type rainfall patterns predominantly compared to the single rainfalls with short rainfall durations. 3. The most frequent probabilistic distribution of typhoon rainfall event is Pearson type-III, followed by Two-parameter lognormal distribution, and Type-I extremal distribution. 4. The most frequent probability distribution model of seashore location was Pearson type-III distribution. The most frequent probability distribution model of inland location was two parameter lognormal distribution.

  • This paper presents an application of parallel Genetic Algorithm-Tabu Search(GA-TS) algorithm to search an optimal solution of a reconfiguration in distribution system. The aim of the reconfiguration of distribution systems is to determine switch position to be opened for loss minimization in the radial distribution systems, which is a discrete optimization problem. This problem has many constraints and very difficult to solve the optimal switch position because it has many local minima. This paper develops parallel GA-TS algorithm for reconfiguration of distribution systems. In parallel GA-TS, GA operators are executed for each processor. To prevent solution of low fitness from appearing in the next generation, strings below the average fitness are saved in the tabu list. If best fitness of the GA is not changed for several generations, TS operators are executed for the upper 10% of the population to enhance the local searching capabilities. With migration operation, best string of each node is transferred to the neighboring node aster predetermined iterations are executed. For parallel computing, we developed a PC-cluster system consisting of 8 PCs. Each PC employs the 2 GHz Pentium Ⅳ CPU and is connected with others through ethernet switch based fast ethernet. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, developed algorithm has been tested and compared on a distribution systems in the reference paper. From the simulation results, we can find that the proposed algorithm is efficient and robust for the reconfiguration of distribution system in terms of the solution qualify. speedup. efficiency and computation time.

  • Continuous probability distribution was one of the mathematics concept that students had difficulty. This study analyzed the definition and introduction of the continuous probability distribution under the 2009-revised curriculum and 2015-revised curriculum. In this study, the following subjects were studied. Firstly, definitions of continuous probability variable in 'Probability and Statistics' textbook developed under the 2009-revised curriculum and 2015-revised curriculum were analyzed. Secondly, introductions of continuous probability distribution in 'Probability and Statistics' textbook developed under the 2009-revised curriculum and 2015-revised curriculum were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows. First, 8 textbooks under the 2009-revised curriculum defined the continuous probability variable as probability variable with all the real values within a range or an interval. And 1 textbook under the 2009-revised curriculum defined the continuous probability variable as probability variable when the set of its value is uncountable. But all textbooks under the 2015-revised curriculum defined the continuous probability variable as probability variable with all the real values within a range. Second, 4 textbooks under the 2009-revised curriculum and 4 textbooks under 2015-revised curriculum introduced a continuous random distribution using an uniformly distribution. And 5 textbooks under the 2009-revised curriculum and 5 textbooks under the 2015-revised curriculum introduced a continuous random distribution using a relative frequency density.

  • In order to quantify the flow distribution characteristics of APR+ reactor, a test was performed on a test facility, ACOP ($\underline{A}$PR+ $\underline{C}$ore Flow & $\underline{P}$ressure Test Facility), having a length scale of 1/5 referring to the prototype plant. The major parameters are core inlet flow and outlet pressure distribution and sectional pressure drops along the major flow path inside reactor vessel. To preserve the flow characteristics of prototype plant, the test facility was designed based on a preservation of major flow path geometry. An Euler number is considered as primary dimensionless parameter, which is conserved with a 1/40.9 of Reynolds number scaling ratio. ACOP simplifies each fuel assembly into a hydraulic simulator having the same axial flow resistance and lateral cross flow characteristics. In order to supply boundary condition to estimate thermal margins of the reactor, the distribution of inlet core flow and core exit pressure were measured in each of 257 fuel assembly simulators. In total, 584 points of static pressure and differential pressures were measured with a limited number of differential pressure transmitters by developing a sequential operation system of valves. In the current study, reactor flow characteristics under the balanced four-cold leg flow conditions at each of the cold legs were quantified, which is a part of the test matrix composing the APR+ flow distribution test program. The final identification of the reactor flow distribution was obtained by ensemble averaging 15 independent test data. The details of the design of the test facility, experiment, and data analysis are included in the current paper.

  • The distribution of a response usually depends on the distribution of the variables. When a variable shows a distribution with two different modes, the response also shows a distribution with two different modes. In this case, recently developed methods for reliability analysis assume that the distribution functions are continuous with a mode. In actual problems, however, because information is often provided in a discrete form with two or more modes, it is important to estimate the distributions for such information. In this study, we employ the finite mixture model to estimate the response distribution with two different modes, and we select the best candidate distribution through AIC. Mathematical examples are illustrated to verify the proposed method.

  • This paper develops a new method for reconstructing neutron flux distribution, that is based on the maximum entropy Principle in information theory. The Probability distribution that maximizes the entropy Provides the most unbiased objective Probability distribution within the known partial information. The partial information are the assembly volume-averaged neutron flux, the surface-averaged neutron fluxes and the surface-averaged neutron currents, that are the results of the nodal calculation. The flux distribution on the boundary of a fuel assembly, which is the boundary condition for the neutron diffusion equation, is transformed into the probability distribution in the entropy expression. The most objective boundary flux distribution is deduced using the results of the nodal calculation by the maximum entropy method. This boundary flux distribution is then used as the boundary condition in a procedure of the imbedded heterogeneous assembly calculation to provide detailed flux distribution. The results of the new method applied to several PWR benchmark problem assemblies show that the reconstruction errors are comparable with those of the form function methods in inner region of the assembly while they are relatively large near the boundary of the assembly. The incorporation of the surface-averaged neutron currents in the constraint information (that is not done in the present study) should provide better results.

  • There are two unique characteristics of the datasets from a manufacturing process. They are the severe class imbalance and lots of Out-of-Distribution samples. Some good strategies such as the oversampling over the minority class, and the down-sampling over the majority class, are well known to handle the class imbalance. In addition, SMOTE has been chosen to address the issue recently. But, Out-of-Distribution samples have been studied just with neural networks. It seems to be hardly shown that Out-of-Distribution detection is applied to the predictive model using conventional machine learning algorithms such as SVM, Random Forest and KNN. It is known that conventional machine learning algorithms are much better than neural networks in prediction performance, because neural networks are vulnerable to over-fitting and requires much bigger dataset than conventional machine learning algorithms does. So, we suggests a new approach to utilize Out-of-Distribution detection based on SVM algorithm. In addition to that, bagging technique will be adopted to improve the precision of the model.
