HEVC RExt RGB 영상의 색평면 간 예측 향상을 위한 적응적 필터링 기법 (An Adaptive Filtering Method for Enhancement of Inter-color Plane Estimation in HEVC RExt RGB Images)

  • HEVC RExt(High Efficiency Video Coding Range Extension)는 RGB/YUV 4:2:2 4:4:4 색 샘플링 영상과 10비트 심도 이상의 영상 지원을 목표로 한다. RGB 영상은 YUV 4:2:0 색 샘플링 영상과는 달리 색평면 간 높은 상관도를 갖고 있으며, 이를 이용하여 화소값을 예측하는 기법들이 JCT-VC 표준화 회의에서 기고되었다. 하지만 일반적으로 RGB 영상의 고주파수 성분은 색평면 간 낮은 상관도를 갖고 있으며, 이는 색평면 간 예측 시 부호화 효율 저하의 원인이 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 색평면 간 예측 시 고주파수 성분을 저역통과필터를 통해 적응적으로 제거하는 기법을 제안한다. HEVC RExt의 RGB 영상을 통한 실험 결과, 본 논문에서 제안하는 기법은 기존 색평면 간 예측 기법에 비해 큰 복잡도의 증가 없이 평균 0.6%의 BD(Bjontegaard Distortion)-율 이득을 얻을 수 있었다.

전영역 탐색 방식의 움직임 예측에서 매칭 스캔 방법을 이용한 불가능한 후보 벡터의 고속 제거 알고리즘 (A Past Elimination Algorithm of Impossible Candidate Vectors Using Matching Scan Method in Motion Estimation of Full Search)

  • 움직임 예측의 전영역 탐색 (full search)에서 방대한 계산량은 실시간 비디오 압축에 큰 장애물이 되어왔으며, 이는 최근 MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding) 표준이 기존의 MPEG-2 보다 움직임 예측에서 더 많은 계산량을 요구하고 있다. 전영역 움직임 예측의 계산량을 줄이기 위해, 본 논문에서는 기존의 전영역움직임 예측에 비하여 예측 화질의 저하가 없는 새로운 고속 매칭 알고리즘을 제안한다. 가능한 후보의 움직임 벡터를 빨리 제거함으로써 예측화질의 저하 없이 계산량만 줄일 수 있게 되는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 영상의 복잡한 영역의 효율적인 매칭 단위와 디더링 (dithering) 순서에 기초한 매칭 방식을 통하여 불가능한 후보 벡터를 더 빨리 제거한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 예측 화질의 저하 없이 기존의 PDE (partial distortion elimination) 알고리즘을 이용한 전영역 탐색 방법에 비해 $30\%$의 계산량을 줄였으며, MPEG-2 및 MPEG-4 AVC를 이용하는 비디오 부호화 응용분야에 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

IDRS 시스템에서 Curve Fitting이 적용된 NLS 비용함수를 이용한 방위/거리 추정 기법 (Bearing/Range Estimation Method using NLS Cost Function in IDRS System)

  • The IDRS provides detection, classification and bearing/range estimation by performing wavefront curvature analysis on an intercepted active transmission from target. Especially, a estimate of the target bearing/range that significantly affects the optimal operation of own submarine is required. Target bearing/range can be estimated by wavefront curvature ranging which use the difference of time arrival at sensors. But estimation ambiguity occur in bearing/range estimation due to a number of peaks caused by high center frequency and limited bandwidth of the intercepted active transmission and distortion caused by noise. As a result the bearing/range estimation performance is degraded. To estimate target bearing/range correctly, bearing/range estimation method that eliminate estimation ambiguity is required. In this paper, therefore, for wavefront curvature ranging, NLS cost function with curve fitting method is proposed, which provide robust bearing/range estimation performance by eliminating estimation ambiguity. Through simulation the performance of the proposed bearing/range estimation methods are verified.

멀티밴드 OFDM UWB 시스템을 위한 채널추정 구조에 관한 연구 (A study on architecture of channel estimation for multi-band OFDM UWB system)

  • This paper proposes an architecture of channel estimation for multi-band OFDM UWB systems presented to IEEE 802.15.3a by Multi-band OFDM alliance(MBOA). The multi-band OFDM (MB-OFDM) systems should have channel estimation for compensation of signal distortion by multi-band channel. The moving-averaging estimation algorithm and multi-band equalization architecture for MB-OFDM UWB systems proposed in this paper was verified by the simulation. Simulation results show that MB-OFDM system with the proposed architecture have the performance improved by about 3.4 dB compared to system with no channel estimation in 0.1$\pi$ phase-rotated channel.

Measurement Allocation by Shapley Value in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • In this paper, we consider measurement allocation problem in a spatially correlated sensor field. Our goal is to determine the probability of each sensor's being measured based on its contribution to the estimation reliability; it is desirable that a sensor improving the estimation reliability is measured more frequently. We consider a spatial correlation model of a sensor field reflecting transmission power limit, noise in measurement and transmission channel, and channel attenuation. Then the estimation reliability is defined distortion error between event source and its estimation at sink. Motivated by the correlation nature, we model the measurement allocation problem into a cooperative game, and then quantify each sensor's contribution using Shapley value. Against the intractability in the computation of exact Shapley value, we deploy a randomized method that enables to compute the approximate Shapley value within a reasonable time. Besides, we envisage a measurement scheduling achieving the balance between network lifetime and estimation reliability.

Air-Data Estimation for Air-Breathing Hypersonic Vehicles

  • An air-data estimator for generic air-breathing hypersonic vehicles (AHSVs) is developed and demonstrated with an example vehicle configuration. The AHSV air-data estimation strategy emphasized improvement of the angle of attack estimate accuracy to a degree necessitated by the stringent operational requirements of the air-breathing propulsion. the resulting estimation problem involves highly nonlinear diffusion process (propagation); consequently, significant distortion of a posteriori conditional density is suspected. A simulation based statistical analysis tool is developed to characterize the nonlinear diffusion process. The statistical analysis results indicate that the diffusion process preserves the symmetry and unimodality of initial probability density shape state variables, and provide the basis for applicability of an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). An EKF is designed for the AHSV air-data system and the air data estimation capabilities are demonstrated.

  • In this paper, the efficient motion estimation and compensation method for 3 dimensional wavelet transform is proposed. Recently, since the compression performance and scalable functionality are provided by wavelet transform, many researches have been carried out for applying to the video compression. For the temporal filtering, motion estimation and compensation techniques are used, but the unconnected pixels, which are produced by motion compensation result into the degradation of coding performance and quality of the picture. For the efficient motion compensated temporal filtering by reducing the number of these unconnected pixels, we propose the variable block size motion estimation and compensation method. Also we propose a method that determines the block size using rate-distortion optimization technique according to the local characteristics of the frame. The simulation results show the improved performances than the MPEG-4 scalable coding methods and the 3 dimensional wavelet coding methods using fixed block size motion estimation and compensation.

  • This work puts forward a theoretical analysis on position estimation performance of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) according to the injection frequency in carrier-based sensorless operation. The effects of spatial harmonics on inductance and voltage distortion due to the nonideal characteristics of IPMSM and inverter are examined as factors influencing the position estimation performance. Furthermore, the position estimation performance is analyzed by calculating the current at the switching instant in several operating conditions. In summary, the half switching frequency injection is more robust to the nonideal characteristics of IPMSM, especially with light load condition. The validity of the analysis is verified by the simulation and experimental results.

빠른 블록 합 피라미드 알고리즘 (A Fast Block Sum Pyramid Algorithm)

  • 본 논문에서는 비디오코딩의 움직임 추정을 위한 빠른 블록 합 피라미드 알고리즘(FBSPA: Fast Block Sum Pyamid Algorithm)을 제안하였다. 제안된 알고리즘은 블록 합 피라미드 알고리즘, 블록 정합 움직임 추정을 위한 효율적인 다단계 연속 제거 알고리즘, 움직임 벡터 추정을 위한 빠른 알고리즘에 기초하고 있다. 제안된 알고리즘은 블록 합 피라미드알고리즘의 연산량을 감소시키기 위하여 블록 합 피라미드알고리즘에 부분 왜곡 제거 기법을 적용하였다. 제안된 방안이 블록 합 피라미드 알고리즘의 연산량을 최대 2.9% 감소시킬 수 있음을 실험을 통하여 확인하였다.

Investigation of torsion, warping and distortion of large container ships

  • Large deck openings of ultra large container ships reduce their torsional stiffness considerably and hydroelastic analysis for reliable structural design becomes an imperative. In the early design stage the beam model coupled with 3D hydrodynamic model is a rational choice. The modal superposition method is ordinary used for solving this complex problem. The advanced thin-walled girder theory, with shear influence on both bending and torsion, is applied for calculation of dry natural modes. It is shown that relatively short engine room structure of large container ships behaves as the open hold structure with increased torsional stiffness due to deck effect. Warping discontinuity at the joint of the closed and open segments is compensated by induced distortion. The effective torsional stiffness parameters based on an energy balance approach are determined. Estimation of distortion of transverse bulkheads, as a result of torsion and warping, is given. The procedure is illustrated in the case of a ship-like pontoon and checked by 3D FEM analysis. The obtained results encourage incorporation of the modified beam model of the short engine room structure in general beam model of ship hull for the need of hydroelastic analysis, where only the first few natural modes are of interest.
