A New Design of Memory-in-Pixel with Modified S-R Flip-Flop for Low Power LCD Panel (저전력 LCD 패널을 위한 수정된 S-R 플립플롭을 가진 새로운 메모리-인-픽셀 설계)

  • In this paper, a new circuit design named memory-in-pixel for low power consumption of the liquid crystal display (LCD) is presented. Since each pixel has a memory, it is able to express 8 color grades using the data saved in the memory without the operation of the gate and source driver ICs so that it can reduce the power consumption of the LCD panel. A memory circuit consists of modified S-R flip-flop (NAND-type) implemented in the pixel, which can supply AC bias for operating the liquid crystal (LC) with the interlocking clocks (CLK_A and CLK_B). This circuit is more complex than the inverter-type memory circuit, but it has lower power consumption of approximately 50% than the circuit. We have investigated the power consumption both NAND and inverter-type memory circuit using a Smart SPICE for the resolution of $96{\times}128$. The estimated power consumption of the inverter-type memory was about 0.037mW. On the other hand, the NAND-type memory showed power consumption of about 0.007mW.

Development and Achievement of Head-Up Display in Public Transit for Reducing Accidents (버스 교통사고 감소를 위한 대중교통 HUD 기술 개발과 성과)

  • Korea's traffic congestion costs including other social costs due to accidents, environmental pollution and increased demand is increasing every year. In this regard, direction of government policy was geared toward suppression of vehicle demand and activation of public transportation, which is determined to be the best solution with limited supply of infrastructure such as road facilities. This study aims to implement public transport bus-only Head-Up Display (hereafter called HUD) technology which displays public transport information required for a bus driver on the front glass of a bus. The public transport bus-only HUD not only prevents gaze dispersion of bus drivers but also helps to reduce the heavy workload of bus drivers by providing information required for driving. Ultimately, the final research purpose is a reduction of bus traffic accidents by 50% caused by negligence in keeping eyes forward or sideways.

Optical System Design for a Head-up Display through Analysis of Distortion and Biocular Parallax (왜곡수차 및 양안시차 분석을 통한 헤드업 디스플레이용 광학계 설계)

  • In this study, we present methods to quantitatively analyze and correct the distortions and biocular parallaxes in a head-up display (HUD). To analyze asymmetrical distortions, five kinds of distortions are proposed and evaluated at five eye positions of an eyebox. The differences between distortions evaluated at the four corners of the eyebox and that at the center are defined as the relative distortions, which occur due to head motion of the driver. We also define the convergence and divergence parallaxes at six biocular positions in the eyebox to quantitatively analyze them. Using these analytical methods, we constrain the degree of biocular parallaxes and distortion changes with eye position to be small, so that an optical system nearly free from them can be obtained by optimization design for HUD optics.

Types & Characteristics of Chemical Substances used in the LCD Panel Manufacturing Process (LCD 제조공정에서 사용되는 화학물질의 종류 및 특성)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate types and characteristics of chemical substances used in LCD(Liquid crystal display) panel manufacturing process. Methods: The LCD panel manufacturing process is divided into the fabrication(fab) process and module process. The use of chemical substances by process was investigated at four fab processes and two module processes at two domestic TFT-LCD(Thin film transistor-Liquid crystal display) panel manufacturing sites. Results: LCD panels are manufactured through various unit processes such as sputtering, chemical vapor deposition(CVD), etching, and photolithography, and a range of chemicals are used in each process. Metal target materials including copper, aluminum, and indium tin oxide are used in the sputtering process, and gaseous materials such as phosphine, silane, and chlorine are used in CVD and dry etching processes. Inorganic acids such as hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid are used in wet etching process, and photoresist and developer are used in photolithography process. Chemical substances for the alignment of liquid crystal, such as polyimides, liquid crystals, and sealants are used in a liquid crystal process. Adhesives and hardeners for adhesion of driver IC and printed circuit board(PCB) to the LCD panel are used in the module process. Conclusions: LCD panels are produced through dozens of unit processes using various types of chemical substances in clean room facilities. Hazardous substances such as organic solvents, reactive gases, irritants, and toxic substances are used in the manufacturing processes, but periodic workplace monitoring applies only to certain chemical substances by law. Therefore, efforts should be made to minimize worker exposure to chemical substances used in LCD panel manufacturing process.

  • Wheels' Direction Indicator, an electronic direction displaying system, provides a driver with information of wheels' direction in real time. The purpose of this study is to develop the system showing on LCD and LED with measuring steering wheel's movement. This system that applies a steering wheel's movement to the data process part will reduce inconvenience that confirms wheels' direction before throughout the open window before driving a car in parking lot.

  • In this paper, we developed a reverse parking guidance system with the path prediction methods which help the safe operation of driver when reversing, with rear camera display, and the expected path on navigation and handheld devices. This system can be applied to various types of vehicles, a variety of characteristics and installation of rear-view camera and navigation support systems, or portable devices are compatible and easily detachable, can be configured easily.

  • IVNS(In-Vehicle Navigation System) which developed by the advance of technological system including computer, display and communication will procide the important interface functions between the driver and the ITS (Intelligent Transport System). However, hat the human factors engineer can actually offer to the designer is by no means a complete set of design specifications. Therefore, a set of boundary conditions and operational ranges within which the designer can be assured that physical, perceptual and cognitive abilities and limitations of drivers will be accommodated system atically[6]. Also, this will be the considerations to compose the IVNS HMI (Human-Machine Interface) design guidelines and IVNS HMI evaluation system. As the first phase of developing the IVNS HMI evaluation system, this paper describe the architecture and the content of this system.

  • Analyze semantic of files recorded in the user's computer file system based on C++ program language which pursue modularization program and object-oriented programming language. And this refers to it, it design that clustering semantic of filename with thesaurus for user convenience. WTPM makes User Write Files into Cluster with thesaurus semantic structure and reserved words. WTPM process has designed for Icon file's display Mashup structure and implemented by automation algorithm of classification.

Development and Application of System for Pressure Distribution Measurement (압력분포 측정용 시스템 개발 및 응용)

  • The film sensor is used for measuring pressure distribution at planar area, especially at a small space or gap. The present paper deals with the development of film type sensors and system for pressure distribution measuring. The developed system is consist of (1)film sensor with 40/sup */40 array, (2)PCI interface card with maximum sampling rate of 100㎐, and (3)software for data processing and real-time display. The contact pressure test of wiper blade and front glass of vehicle was performed with wiper blade by 40cm. Generally spring force of wiper arm is designed at 0.7∼1kN. Test results of total force was 9.4N and 7.1N in each driver and passenger toward. The paper suggested possibility for base definition in wiper design. A windshield wiper blade experiment revealed that the system successfully measured the contact force distribution during static state, showing the usefulness of the developed system.

Novel Priming Discharge Technology for Plasma Display Panel (플라즈마 디스플레이의 새로운 프라이밍 방전 기술)

  • 단일 구동회로를 사용하여 패널전체를 동시에 방전시킬 수 있는 새로운 priming 방전기술을 고안하였다. 그리고 이 기술을 사용하여 1080개의 수평주사선수를 가지는 full-HDTV PDP를 고휘도로 구동할 수 있는 새로운 고속 구동방식을 제안하였다. 이 priming 방전기술을 사용하면 구동방식에 상관없이 priming 기간을 sustain 기간에 중첩시키고 ramp 파형을 가지는 priming pulse를 인가하는 것이 가능하다. 실험결과로부터 sustain 방전이 없는 경우에만 priming 방전이 일어났다. 그리고 sustain 방전은 priming 펄스의 영향을 거의 받지 않는다는 것이 확인되었다. 새로운 PDP 구동기술로 $0.7{\mu}s$의 address 펄스폭을 가지는 고속 address를 실현하였다. 그리고 40V의 넓은 address 동작마진을 얻었다. 이 기술들은 상용의 driver IC를 사용할 수 있도록 설계되어있으므로 상용화 가능성도 높다.
