An improved dual-path energy recovery circuit (ERC) using a current source and a voltage source for plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. The proposed ERC uses the voltage source to charge a panel and the current source to discharge the panel. Thus, the proposed circuit can make the panel charge to $V_S$ and discharge to 0V, fully and it is possible to achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS) of all switches in H-bridge inverter and zero current switching (ZCS) of all switches in the ERC. Moreover, it has less conduction and switching loss in ERC devices by the dual energy recovery paths for charging and discharging the panel. Furthermore, it has features of canceling the gas discharge current, high performance and the low cost ERC components. The operation principle and features of the proposed ERC are presented in detail and verified with 42-inch SD PDP.

A typical honeycomb sandwich panel consists of two thin, high-strength facings bonded to a thick, light-weight core. Each component by itself is relatively weak and flexible, but when it combined in a sandwich panel they produce a structure that is stiff, strong, and lightweight. To prove the suitability the honeycomb sandwich structure with prepreg, the mechanical properties of the skin materials and honeycomb sandwich structure were evaluated with the static strength tests. Accordingly, the honeycomb sandwich structure made by autoclave process is available for a panel on LCD/PDP assembly line.
New concept of energy recovery for plasma display panel (PDP) Is proposed. Different from conventional LC resonant sustaining drivers, the current built up before inverting the polarity of the panel electrodes is utilized to change the panel Polarity together with energy Previously charged in Panel capacitance. This operation Provides zero -voltage-switching of switches and reduction of EMI by rejecting the surge current when the sustain switches are turned on. The build-up current helps to reduce transition time of panel polarity and may produce more stable light waveforms. This method shows a desirable characteristic that the circuit loss is similar to that of series resonant type energy recovery circuit which is very effective method.
An 18.1" Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display (TFT LCD) monitor adopting high brightness In Plane Switching (IPS) technology was realized. While conventional IPS structure used a Chromium (Cr) and Molybdenum (Mo) for a drain electrode, Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) was proposed and verified in this paper. Black sticky micropeal spacers were introduced for the reduction of light scattering phenomena, which was observed at dark room with the conventional micropeal spacers. With the proposed method, more than 10 % aperture ratio was increased and the excellent image quality was obtained.
We have examined the electrical and optical characteristics of the plasma display panel produced by vacuum in-line sealing technology. In the MgO layer deposited at room temperature, after sealing at the panel temperature of $430^{\circ}C$, the luminous efficiency decreased compared with that of the panel before sealing. Moreover, firing and sustain voltage of the sealed panel increased compared with that of the panel before sealing. This was resulted from that the MgO protective layer was cracked by the softening of the dielectric layer during the sealing process. In order to avoid the MgO crack during the vacuum in-line sealing, thermally stable MgO layer or lower temperature sealing is required.
Field emission display(FED) using carbon nanotubes (CNT) as field emitters is expected to large-area panels with high luminance and low power consumption. In order to perform the uniform luminance with low driving voltage, we introduced a new electrode to apply higher electric potential over the CNT cathode in 2003.[1] In the study, we described the luminance uniformity of the panel and the improvement of emission uniformity by increasing the emission-site density. The luminance uniformity of the several ideal dots which were selected over the display area in the panel was 2.8%. [2] The CNT cathode was irradiated by excimer-laser, which was effective to improve emission uniformity and lower driving voltage. A prototype of CNT-FED character display was performed for middle size message displays. The prototype panel had 48 x 480-dots and the resolution was 1-mm. The panel realized high luminance at low power consumption. It will be important characteristics for legible and ubiquitous displays. [3]
Recently, plasma display panels (PDP) have become the most promising candidate in the market for large screen size flat panel displays. PDPs have many merits such as a fast display response time and wide viewing angle. However, there are still concerns about high cost because they require complex driving circuits composed of high power switching devices to generate various voltage waveforms for three operational modes of reset, scan, and sustain. Conventional PDP driving circuits use path switches for voltage separation and a scan switch to offer a scan voltage for reset and scan operations, respectively. In addition, there exist reset switches to initialize PDPs by regulating the wall charge conditions with ramp shaped pulses, which means the necessity of specific power devices for the reset operation. Because power for the plasma discharge accompanied by a large current is transferred to a panel via path switches, high power rating switches are used for path switches. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel low-cost PDP driving scheme achieved by not only eliminating path switches but also merging the function of reset switches into other switches used for sustain or scan operations. The simulated voltage waveforms of the proposed topology and experimental results implemented in a 42-inch panel to demonstrate the validity of using a new gate driver that merges the functions of power switches are presented.
Plasma Display Panel(PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalks from adjacent sub-pixels. The mold for forming the barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing processes such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. The mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring glass-material wall. In this paper, Stripes of grooves of which width 48${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, depth 124$\mu\textrm{m}$ , pitch 274$\mu\textrm{m}$ was acquired by machining of single crystal silicon with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom of the grooves was 59.6nm Ra in grooving Si. Barrier ribs were formed with silicone rubber mold, which is transferred from grooved Si forming hard mold. Silicone rubber mold has the elasticity, which enable to accommodate the waveness of lower glass plate of PDP. The methods assisted by the microwave and UV was adopted for reducing the forming time of glass paste.
This paper focuses on the fundamental issues for improving the efficiency and throughput of the AC PDP (Plasma Display Panel) manufacturing. The properties of the MgO protective layer affect the PDP efficiency. Especially, the secondary electron emission efficiency was affected on the deposition rate of MgO during the evaporation. In this study, the deposition rate of 5 $\AA$/s has given the maximum efficiency value of 0.05 It is demonstrated that the impurity gases such as $H_2O$, $CO_2$, CO or $N_2$, and $O_2$ can be remained inside the PDP panel before sealing and the amount of the impurity gases decreased rapidly as the base vacuum level increased, especially near $10^{-5}$ torr. The fundamental solution in order to overcome these problems is the vacuum in-line sealing process from the MgO evaporation to the final sealing of the panel without breaking the vacuum. We have demonstrated this fundamental process technology and shown the feasibility. The firing voltage was reduced down to 285 V at the base vacuum value of $10^{-6}$ torr, whreras it was about 328 V at the base vacuum value of $10^{-3}$ torr.
