Objective : The purpose of this paper is to report the improvement of patient with dizziness treated by herb medication based on Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods : According to 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions', the patient diagnosed with Taeyang-byung, number 27 provision, and took Guizhieryuebiyi-tang herb medication 30 days. The changing symptom of dizziness was estimated by VAS(Visual Analogue Scale). Results : The VAS changed 10 to 0. Conclusions : On the number 27 provision of Shanghanlun, '弱' means lower body helplessness. This is the first case report treating the dizziness with Guizhieryuebiyi-tang in Korea.

Objective : The purpose of this paper is to report the improvement of patient with pitting edema treated by herb medication based on Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods : According to 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions', the patient was diagnosed with Taeyang-byung, number 96 provision, and took Soshiho-tang herb medication 30days. The changing symptom of pitting edema is reported depended on the edema scale and the statement of patient during treatment. Results : The pitting edema of patient disappeared by 96 provision of Soshiho-tang seclected according to Shanghanlun provisions. Conclusions : This case report suggests that two words on the 96 provision of Shanghanlun, '或 心下悸, 小便不利'(palpitations below the heart, inhibited urination) indcate close relationship between palpitation and decrease of genital secretions, which affected the edema in this case.

In the interest of nuclear power plant safety, a self-diagnostic monitoring system (SDMS) is needed to monitor defects in safety-related components. An air-operated valve (AOV) is one of the components to be monitored since the failure of its operation could potentially have catastrophic consequences. In this paper, a model of the AOV is developed with the parameters that affect the operational characteristics. The model is useful for both understanding the operation and correlating parameters and defects. Various defects are introduced in the experiments to construct a fault library, which will be used in a pattern recognition approach. Finally, the validity of the fault library is examined.

Objective : The purpose of this paper is to report the improvement of patient with hyperhidrosis treated by herb medication based on Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods : According to 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions', the patient was diagnosed with Taeyang-byung Kyeolhyung number 156 provision, and took Oryeong-san herb medication 15days. The result of administration was evaluated by Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale (HDSS) and Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Results : After administration of Oryeong-san 15days, based on 156 provision of Oryeong-san seclected according to Shanghanlun provisions, Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale (HDSS) was decreased from 4 to 2 and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) was decreased from 10 to 2. Conclusions : The patient's hyperhidrosis improved. This case report suggests that the word '遂' on the 153-156 provisions of Shanghanlun be a direct emotional cause of hyperhidrosis in this case.

Objective: The purpose of this paper is to report the improvement in a patient with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) treated with herbal medication based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods: According to the 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions,'the patient was diagnosed with Guorem-byung number 350 provision, and took Baekho-tang herbal medication for 15 days. The result of administration was evaluated using the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Results: After administration of Baekho-tang for 15 days, based on the 350 provision of Baekho-tang diagnosed according to the Shanghanlun provisions, the DHI score decreased from 74 to 16 and the VAS score decreased from 10 to 1. Conclusions: The patient recovered from symptoms of BPPV. This case report suggests that the words '滑,''厥,''裏'on the 350 provision of Shanghanlun mean physical and psychological causes of BPPV in this case.

Objective: This study aimed to report the effect of Baekhogainsam-tang on brain fog. Methods: A 59-year-old female patient complained of brain fog and waking up frequently during the night. Based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system, the patient was treated with Baekhogainsam-tang. The result was evaluated using the score. Results: After administration of Baekhogainsam-tang for 45 days, the MFI score decreased from 89 to 40. The average number of instances of waking up during the night decreased from 3 to 1.5. Conclusions: Some cases of brain fog can be treated by Baekhogainsam-tang.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to inform people that acne can be improved with Osuyu-tang (OSYT) based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS). Methods: We evaluated the progress of symptoms, patient compliance, and presence of side effects after the patient took OSYT. The progress of acne treatment was evaluated using the Korean Acne Grading System (KAGS), visual findings, and patient statements. Results: According to the DPIDS, the patient was diagnosed with provision 309 of soyinbing. After administration of OSYTfor 50 days, KAGS decreased from grade 3 to grade 1. Cold hands and feet improved significantly. Conclusions: Through this case study, we showed the possibility of the clinical interpretation and application of OSYT and suggested further case studies in the future.

Objective: This study aimed to report the effect of Oryeong-san on Menière's disease. Methods : A 48-year-old female complained of Menière's disease and daily frequent headache. Based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system, the patient was treated with Oryeong-san. The result was evaluated by the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) and a numerical rating score. Results : After administration of Oryeong-san for 46 days, the DHI score decreased from 42 to 4. The average number of dizzy spells decreased from 6 to 0. Conclusions : Some cases of Menière's disease can be treated by Oryeong-san.

Objective : The objective of this study was to explore the meaning of "man (滿)" in Shanghanlun through the analysis of four cases. Methods : We analyzed four cases treated with modified Soshiho-tang, which is administered when 滿 aggravates chief complaints. All cases were diagnosed by the disease pattern identification diagnostic system based on the Shanghanlun provisions. Results : All 4 patients' chief complaints were improved after administration of modified Soshiho-tang. Swelling symptoms were reduced in all 4 cases. Through the etymological research and clinical treatment results, the clinical meaning of 滿 was deduced as "swelling." Conclusions : The etymological and clinical analysis suggest that the concept of "滿" may be defined as "swelling" in the Shanghanlun provisions.

Objective: This study aimed to report the improvement in a patient with allergic contact dermatitis treated with Sihogyeji-tang based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS). Methods: According to the Shanghanlun DPIDS, the patient with allergic contact dermatitis was diagnosed with greater yang disease chest bind (Shanghanlun provision 146), and was administered Sihogyeji-tang for 90 days. The results were evaluated using the Dermatological Life Quality Index (DLQI) and a visual analog scale (VAS). Results: After taking Sihogyeji-tang for 90 days, the DLQI decreased from 28 points to 8 points and the VAS decreased from 10 points to 3 points. Conclusions: This case shows the potential of treatment through herbal medicine for allergic contact dermatitis using the Shanghanlun DPIDS.
