(A Process Model to Improve the Requirements Change Management for the Development Methodologies) (개발 방법론의 요구 사항 변경 관리를 개선하기 위한 프로세스 모델)

  • In conventional development methodologies, requirements are considered to be not changing after analysis phase, and requirements specifications are used for the next step system design purpose. But in the real world, requirements can be changed and modified throughout the development life cycle according to end-user's more understanding about the target system, new IT technologies, changes of customer environment and market situation, and so on. So there needs a requirements change management process that can extend requirements management over the entire development life cycle and can support managing changes to the requirements after design phase. In this paper, a requirements change management process that can be integrated into conventional development methodologies is proposed to support the extension of requirements life cycle and managing changes to the requirements after design phase. This process was evaluated through an verification test with a widely used development methodology‘MaRMI’.

  • A knowledge-based system with CAD is widely used to implement a designer's know-how and a routine calculation within a system. An engineer needs to change several design parameters in an early design stage. However it is not easy to change the design parameters when it needs to update an existing model and data. In this paper, a module has been proposed to make it easy to change the design parameter so that the engineer can easily update and change the design model. Also a flexible interface of the module can easily add or extract the design knowledge.

A Priority and Impact Factor Analysis of Construction Management Tasks for Decreasing Change Orders and Defect Repairs in Cancer Treatment Center Projects (암센터 의료시설의 설계변경과 하자보수의 감소를 위한 중점 관리공사 분석)

  • The complexity of constructing medical institutions is higher than that of general buildings, and many change orders in the design and defect repairs in the construction phase are required due to strict government regulations. The priority control of constructions and impact factors of medical institutions were analyzed in this study, and difficulties in the control in the design and construction phase were identified. First, the priority management factors that were identified were as follows: architecture, facilities, and electricity. Second, 1) priority management in constructions and factors resulting in change orders and 2) priority management in constructions involving defect repair were analyzed. Third, the importance recognized by the construction managers were analyzed. The priority management in constructions and factors that were recognized by the construction manager were deducted as having low importance, although there were many change orders and defects. The work of finishing, wall building, joining, office automation and communication function, and lighting were analyzed in the design phase, and waste, the office automation and communication function, ceilings, contamination control, and plumbing were analyzed in the construction phase. The results showed that there will be a decrease in change orders and defects if the concentration of the manager was elevated and priorities were managed.

  • Purpose: This research investigates the impact of technology adoption on organisation productivity. The framework has three independent variables viz. technological change, information technology (IT) infrastructure, and IT knowledge management and one dependent variable as organisational productivity. Research design, data and methodology: An explanatory research design with a quantitative research method was employed, and data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire using online as well as an offline survey. The sample consisted of 300 IT managers and senior-level executives (production as well as service team) in leading IT companies in Malaysia selected using snowball sampling. Normality and reliability assessment was performed in the first stage utilising SPSS 22, and Confirmatory Factory Analysis (CFA) was performed with maximum likelihood estimation to assess the internal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. Finally, Structural Equation Model (SEM) and path analysis are conducted using AMOS 22. Results: The research findings demonstrated that technological change and IT infrastructure positively and significantly impact the organisation's productivity while IT knowledge management has significant but negative impact on organizational productivity of IT companies in Malaysia. Conclusion: The research concludes that all three factors plays important role in deciding organizational producvity. Recommendations, implications, limitations and future research avenues are discussed.

  • The Development of Cost Management is embossed efficiently to use the budget for the construction industry. The government is exploring every efforts and polices to control increasing the budget for the construction industry. However, despite of the government's efforts, researches are insufficient for a cost management of development. Also, the changed cost of construction by frequent plan change is caused of decline in quality etc during an accomplishing project. Therefore, in this study, analyzed about principal official phase of design phase to solve the problem. In order to define clearly the target cost concepts in the planning phase apply to the DTC(Design To Cost) concept and technique at the development of cost management process which will be able to manage the enterprise expense. It's process is expected with the fact that will be the possibility efficiently of fixing target cost in the planning phase by the construction client and designer.

ANALYZING CAUSES OF CHANGE ORDERS IN KOREA ROAD PROJECTS

  • The Korean government implemented 259 road projects from 2004 to 2007, valued at $18.4 billion. Change orders of these road projects occurred 8,973 times and, subsequently, caused significant increases in the cost of the projects, approximately up to $4.2 billion (22.8% of the initial budget). These significant problems of huge change orders require a more workable control system for budget management whereas the effectiveness of the government's control is still not satisfied. However, previous approaches and studies mostly limited their analyses to simply classifying the causes of the change orders. This paper investigates the real frequency and cost impacts incurred by each cause of a change order, primarily based on 218 road projects in Korea. The paper then identifies the attributes of change orders through a survey of 204 project participants in that those sources were inevitable or avoided if properly managed. The causes of the change orders are further analyzed with analysis of variance (ANOVA) in connection with contract volume, bid award rate, the contractor's capacity to perform, and the design company's capacity. This study found that if the contract volume is smaller, then the possibility of change orders is higher. Interestingly, if the bid award rate is less than 67.5%, it signifies the highest rate of change orders. In addition, the contractors whose construction ability is assessed as the top-ranked group showed the lowest change order rates. With these results, this paper provides the preventive guidelines for reducing the likelihood of change orders.

  • It is known that about 15 to 40 percent of total design time is spent on retrieving information such as standard parts handbook data, engineering equations, previous designs. This paper describes a knowledge management system for machine tool design. Product structuring, change management, and complex design knowledge management are possible through the developed system. The system can speed up the design process by making necessary data instantly available as it is needed and keeping track of all the relevant design information and knowledge including individual decisions, design intentions, documents, and drawings.

  • Various organizational factors effect successful implementation of IT enabled business transformation. Among them, the most critical success factor is deemed to overcoming change management problem. Lots of studies have been made on implementation methodologies and business process formalizations to encourage organizational members to accept new business process changes. However, the logic of process redesign still depends on qualitative problem solving techniques mostly depending on basically human intuition such as brainstorming, cause-and-effect analysis, and so on. In this paper, we develop algorithmic procedure applicable to designing various business process changes such as process automation, business process resequencing, and more radical process integration. The framework is employed from dynamic programming approach in the literature, which is based on the decision making paradigm of organizations to abstract business processes as quantitative decision models. As such, our research can fill the gap of limited development of theory based analytic methodologies for business process design, by providing objective rationale to reach the consensus among the organizational members including senior management.

  • This paper compares and contrasts four different kinds of leadership models in Design Management. Similarities and differences between these four models in contemporary leadership issues and challenges are analyzed and described. Each model will demonstrate the effects of leadership and how these leaders use the different approaches to develop their leadership style in their design field. This paper proposes that contemporary leadership in Design Management involves a unique bonding among leaders and followers, and more flexible and developed leadership will continue in the understanding and skill with which applying to the dynamic of organization change. The results and application of each model's assessment indicate a team of leaders that are capable of achieving excellence through their combined talents and vision to achieve in design fields using their potential inability of their own leadership.
