As a dental technician, the aim of the present study on maxillofacial prosthesis was to research its relation with dental technology and further development aspects by looking into its history, kinds, production materials and process. Dental technicians are to expect a great potential to work as maxillofacial prosthetist if having an interest in education of maxillofacial prosthesis field, and developing and operating the education process by expanding the range of dental technology. This article is to present overall history of maxillofacial prosthesis and some background information on the materials which have been used from the past. The maxillofacial field plays essential functions of mastication and speech, as well as performs appearance, which evokes good or bad feelings as an instant and instinctive response. The use of maxillofacial prostheses is not merely the replacement of a missing part of the face, resulted from injuries, but a rehabilitation process to help individuals come back to society. Rehabilitation includes both patient's physical and psychological recovery, such as self-esteem and selfconfidence. There has been a rapid development in application potentials of maxillofacial prosthesis technology which include implant, which can penetrate skin, and new materials. In order to produce maxillofacial prosthesis, general procedures of maxillofacial laboratory work should be understood first. Maxillofacial prosthesis and the dental prosthesis have many similarities in its academic perspective and originality. Maxillofacial prosthesis should be added into the curriculum for dental technology to achieve co-enhancement of the two fields.
The purpose of this study is to investigate relations among job-related attributes of dental technicians. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. Differences in four job-related attributes among dental technicians in accordance with their titles were investigated to find that dental lab managers were higher in job satisfaction than chief and assistant technicians of the lab. Dental lab managers were given the best work climate, followed by chief technicians of hospital, those of dental lab and assistant technicians. Job competence was highest in part of the managers, followed by chief assistants of hospital, those of dental lab and assistant technicians. But work facilities that were being used by dental technicians were not significantly different in quality in accordance with their titles. Assistant technicians were lower in job satisfaction, given work climate and job competence than managers and chief technicians of both hospital and dental lab. Under same work conditions, female dental technicians were higher in job satisfaction than male ones. Dental technicians' job satisfaction were most affected by work climate, followed by job competence and the quality of work facilities in order. In other words, job satisfaction was higher when work climate was better, job competence was higher or when work facilities were better. Job satisfaction was generally lower in part of male dental technicians than female ones. Considering the fact that job satisfaction is most influenced by work climate, more careful attention should be paid to assistant technicians who while on duty, usually have not so good relationship with seniors or colleagues. Those technicians also usually have few or no opportunity of obtaining latest knowledge or skills, so they should be allowed time for seminars or lectures in which such knowledge or skills are educated. It is also important to raise assistant technicians' pride about their job by empowering them by authorization or giving more remuneration or other rewards for their improved job competence.
This study was performed to examine the effect of repeated firing on porcelain color stability. Sixty sepcimens of generally uniform size and shape(9.7 12mm)were prepared using the manufactorer's specifications and among them 50 specimens that showed no defect after firing procedure were selected. All samples, abraded with sandpaper disc, ultrasonically cleaned, and air fired to amedium glaze were devided into 10 groups according to the number of repeated firing and, upon completion, mounted on a 13 by 16cm board. 30 persons(five dentists, ten dental techanicians, and fiftheen students) were asked to compare the samples for variations, in hue, chroma and value under natural and artificial light. The results were as follows:(1) There were no color change detected in the first four firings.(2) Slight color change were noticed in subsequent firings(ie: greater decreases in value with slight increases In chroam)(3) However, the hue remained constant in all 10 groups after repeated firings.
Dental implant has been increasingly used to recover the masticatory unction of tooth. It has been well known that the success of dental implant is heavily dependent on initial stability and long-term osseointegration due to optimal stress distribution in the surrounding bones. The role of periodontal ligament, removed during operation, is to absorb impact force and to distribute them to alveolar bone. or this reason, the study for artificial periodontal ligament has become an important issue in this field. In this study, chitosan was coated on dental implant or the purpose of replacing the role of intact periodontal ligament. The results by experiment and FEM analysis showed : I) Initial stability of dental implant was significantly increased(35%) when the implant was coated with chitosan. II) The coated implant showed higher impact absorption, more even stress distribution and lower stress magnitude under impact force than uncoated implant. Accordingly, the micro-fracture of the surrounding bones due to impact force would be lessened by chitosan coating on dental implant.
Dental prosthetic restoration shows a big difference of cost per itemized unit depending on the size of dental labs, facility standard, manpower, and performance. Even the same dental labs have distinctive cost according to manufacturing performance, inflation, and the number of workers. However, in apite of such a change of circumstances, it appears to be quite stable in the relative cost per itemized unit unless the manufacturing trend of particular item changes dramatically. Therefore, if the relative number of cost per itemized unit, which is produced by costing, is indicated, we are able to utilize it effectively as a standard wage estimate. If the wage of dental prosthetic restoration is determined on the basis of cost, it is desirable that the relative value of cost and that of wage are identical. But, by means of comparative analysis, since the relative value of wage reveals mostly lower than that of cost depending on an item, it is considered that the wage is not reflecting the cost approproately. Due to the subdivision and the profession of medical technology, the new development of wage items for dental prosthetic restoration is required. This means that the need for the establishment of new wage items should be presented as the general concept of dental prothetic restroation changes and the level of pathologic technology increases. The current wage structure has differences in the degree of difficulty accroding to unit items and in the cost factors. Nevertheless, the differences are not reflected enough to the wage, so there is potential to lower the medical quality through the use of low-proce materials to avoid the increase of cost and the work process which skips a manufacturing step. The new items of dental prosthetic restoration also increases, but the development of proper numerical value system is not supported. Thus, the right proce is set mostly by applying to the wage of a similar item. Since most wages are established by an individual agreement between the dental clinic institute and the dental labs, the propriety of wage level lacks. Therefore, it is urgent to provide and promote the system of a fair work charge by a standard cost which can be applied to all medical institute.

Methods: This survey, modified questionnaires based on Hee-Joo Moon's(2005), is accordance with undergraduate students and shows very high credibility upper than Cronbach's Alpha. 1,500 questionnaires are distributed(01. Oct. 2010~30. Oct. 2010) but only 1,213(80.8%) are returned and, except for 14 insincerely answered, 1,199(79.9%) are used. Results: The results of the study are following. The population characteristic of this survey is that 445(18.1%) are male, 739(61.9%) are female, 595(49.6%) are in health section, and 604(50.4%) are in none health section. 628(53%) chose getting jobs as their motivations for school choice and 727(60.8%) chose getting jobs and career guidance as theirs. The satisfaction of male students was higher than that of female students based on the comparative analysis of the curriculum satisfaction. The satisfaction of the students in none health section was higher than that of those in health section based on the comparative analysis of the curriculum satisfaction. This survey indicates that once the satisfaction with the major courses and career guidance increase, the overall satisfaction grows. Conclusion: The keys to improve the curriculum satisfaction including students' in department of dental technology are to provide and develop differentiated curriculums and support programs that meet students' expectations. In addition, the customized curriculums based on the level and aptitudes of female students are needed.

Purpose : This study explores the effects of dental hygiene students' ethical propensity and self-esteem on their awareness of protecting patient medical information and how these factors interact to influence their professional ethical consciousness. The aim of this study is to highlight the role of university education in shaping the ethical values of dental hygienists. Methods : Between June 1 and November 30, 2023, 210 dental hygiene students in Busan Metropolitan City participated in this study. After providing consent, the participants completed a self-administered questionnaire comprising 69 questions. The questions covered general characteristics (8 questions), ethical propensity (20 questions), self-esteem (10 questions), and awareness of patient medical information protection (31 questions), all measured on a five-point Likert scale. Results : Correlation analysis indicated that idealism had a significant positive correlation with relativism (r=0.35, p<.001), self-esteem (r=0.28, p<.001), and awareness of patient medical information protection (r=0.46, p<.001). Relativism had a significant positive correlation with self-esteem (r=0.17, p<0.05) and awareness of patient medical information protection (r=0.23, p<.01). Self-esteem had a significant positive correlation with awareness of patient medical information protection (r=0.34, p<.001). Multilinear regression analysis revealed that idealism (ß=0.38) and self-esteem (ß=0.22) significantly increased the level of awareness of patient medical information protection. However, relativism did not have a significant impact on the level of awareness of patient medical information protection. The model explained 26.0 % of the variance (24.9 % when corrected). Conclusion : Higher levels of idealism and self-esteem correlate with greater awareness of patient medical information protection. In addition to appropriate program development and strategies, university curricula for dental hygiene students should include systematic and continuous training to enhance the values of ethical awareness, idealism, and self-esteem.
Purpose: This study was survey on future job vision and its pride (self-esteem) of dental technicians. It also investigates the future vision on their major of job (denture) and its awareness to improve the work environment and enhance their satisfaction towards job and duties. Methods: In order to research job and its duty satisfaction of dental technicians who mainly work at denture part, certified questionnaire was modified and upgraded for its use. Collected documents were used by 'Window SAS 8.0 Program' for analysis. The significance of the test related to the items and its standards has been decided for p<0.05. To find out the differences between choices when choosing career and the duty satisfaction, t-test, one-way ANOVA and two-way ANOVA have been used. Results: Following research findings show: 1. There was high self-esteem towards the job as dental technicians but low in future job vision. 2. It has been found that if satisfaction on their job (dental technician) is high then also their satisfaction on its duty (denture part) is high. 3. The factors that affects mostly on duty satisfaction of denture part are 'the contribution on improving oral cavity of people'(${\beta}$=0.33118), 'The possibility of growth of person's job choices'(${\beta}$=0.30035) and 'person's satisfaction on choosing job'(${\beta}$=0.16069). 4. If there is an increase level on the contribution of improving people's oral cavity, the possibility of growth of person's job choices and the person's satisfaction on choosing job, then there is also high growth in denture part's duty satisfaction. 5. It has been found that if there are more employment histories of denture part, the duty satisfaction of denture part were also high. On the other hand, the more employment history of dental technicians get, the duty satisfaction of their denture part was low. Conclusion: Following research results show that there is high self-esteem towards the job as dental technicians but the vision towards future was low. This shows that there is no bright future on dental technology. Therefore, it is important that not only to improve the work environment and pay rise on dental technologists but also to satisfy them. Various program developments and continuous research are needed to increase satisfaction.
