Objectives: The purpose of this study was to suggest an effective instruction method for dental hygiene students by determining the degree of importance and satisfaction that they attach to the courses. Methods: Data obtained from a survey that was conducted on 654 dental hygiene students were analyzed. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 23.0 was used for the statistical analysis. A paired t-test was conducted to detect the differences between the degree of importance that the respondents attached to the courses and the degree of satisfaction they achieved. A comparative analysis of the two was performed using the IPA analysis. Results: Regarding the items, the respondents found the environment most important, followed by the content, method, perspective, and assessment. Regarding satisfaction, they were most satisfied with the environment, followed by the perspective, method, content, and assessment. Regarding the importance of ideal teaching, the respondents gave the highest priority to 'a class in which the core content is summarized, emphasized, and explained.' The satisfaction was the highest toward 'PowerPoint-based classes in which the core content is well-organized.' Based on the results of the IPA analysis, the respondents regarded 16 items as requiring maintenance and continuous efforts, 12 items as low priority, and 4 items as requiring excessive efforts and timely improvement. Conclusions: An ideal class requires the instructor to utilize various teaching methods that would enable the students to comprehend the detailed teaching content and elicit active interaction and feedback from the students through easy-to-understand lectures that are appropriate for students.
The aim of this article is to provide major announcements within the last decade or so about possible medical emergencies in dentistry. This would be helpful to improve the knowledge on first aid suitable for dental environment. Syncope was the most common medical emergencies in dentistry. Medical emergency situations can be divided into urgency and true emergency. Urgency situations can be solved well if proper treatment is taken. However, even in an urgency, if the correct treatment is not performed, it may soon turn into an emergency. With the joint efforts of the Korean Dental Anesthesiology Society and the Korean Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Association, dental advanced life support (DALS) has been prepared since 2015. Through 17 training experiences until January 2020, scenarios and textbooks were developed. Dentists and dental care teams need to be prepared to strengthen their competence as professionals and to increase their team-level response capabilities..
We attempted to develop a problem-based learning (PBL) module for integrated education in dental hygiene with the aim of helping students gain clinical competencies necessary for dental hygienist work. To develop the PBL Module for Clinical Dentistry in Dental Hygiene course, the researchers identified literature related to not only educational technology, but also medical science, nursing, dentistry, and dental hygiene. During the design phase of the PBL module, problem scenarios and a plan for the teaching and learning process were developed. Developing problem scenarios involved describing a problematic situation and three questions related with that situation. To cultivate competencies required in dental clinics, each question was related to the diagnosis of a dental disease, dental treatment, and dental hygiene procedures for care. Teaching-learning process plan included the designs of operating environment, operational strategies, learning resources, facilitation of problem-solving process, and evaluation. It is necessary to evaluate the PBL module for integrated education in dental hygiene to confirm its effectiveness.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to reduce the remake rate of dental prosthesis. We examined remake cause and major factor of dental prosthesis to determine methods for raising dental prosthesis satisfaction. Methods: Subjects included dental technicians in the metropolitan areas of the cities of Daegu and Gyeong-buk. Surveys were filled out by consenting dental technicians. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 19.0 for Windows. We determined frequencies and percentage, calculating means, and standard deviations, and determining statistical significance using t-tests, analysis of variance. Results: Impression or material transform is high among remake cause and margin is high among remake major factor. Crown class showed differences in General characteristics associated with age, number of employees, and number of connection dental. Porcelain class showed differences in General characteristics associated with age, number of employees, and number of connection dental. Denture class showed differences in General characteristics associated with age, monthly salaray, and career. Implant class showed differences in General characteristics associated with age, education, and career. Conclusion: In order to reduce remake rate of dental prosthesis, communication of dentist, dental technician, and the patient are require and correct information of patient and dental prosthesis are need.
The purpose of this to inquire of the people who run a dental mechanical laboratory having troubles to manage and to find out the reform measures on the point at issue. With having done random sampling for the chiefs of dental mechanical labs across the nation, and then marking the analysis of the data for the survey, I came to a conclusion to be as follow. 1. The operating problems in dental mechanical laboratory in Korea is that it is too near at hand that the requested days for the manufacture of dental prosthesis appliances form dental clinics(45%)(P<0.01) 2. The problem of dental mechanic manpower was due to a small salary and inferior working environment(35% each)(P<0.01) 3. Some of them discount dental mechanical charges in manufacturing dental prosthesis appliances(36.7%)(P<0.01) 4. Many of them employed unlicensed dental technicians(61.7%)(P<0.01) As a counterplan for the aforementioned, I think that the whole dental mechanics should cooperate in breaking off the customary custom to allow a discount on the dental mechanical charges and readjust the dental mechanical charge to a realistic level so as to contribute to the development of the dental mechanical community and the vetterment of the public oral hygience.

Unlike a medical doctor, a dentist performs all the tasks necessary for diagnosis and treatment of a disease all by himself. To increase the diagnostic accuracy, dentists need an efficient working environment providing much more integrated information of clinical data and radiographic image. In this paper, we propose an integrated environment for the dental hospital. It provides paperless and filmless hospital environment by integrating seamlessly three major operations for the dental hospital including patient record generation and management, clinical image acquisition and analysis, and treatment planning and simulation. This system also allows clinicians to provide more predictable dental care for the patients by supporting instant access to all the clinical data and quantitative data analysis.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to improve awareness of male dental hygiene by investigating the dentists' perception of male dental hygienists' image and work performance in clinical practice. Methods: The participants were 102 dentists who agreed to participate in this study. They completed- a self-administered questionnaire survey available on a website. The questionnaire comprised 26 questions, with each item scored on a 5-point Likert scale. Results: The male dentists perceived that with an increase in the experience of male dental hygienists would be willing to pay more than for female dental hygienists. In the case of male dentists, male dental hygienists perceived that they would feel stressed in a women-centered work environment. Additionally, it was found that dentists who had experience working with Male dental hygienists responded more positively to work performance awareness than had no experience (p<0.05). Conclusions: Active employment of male dental hygienists in clinical practice, could positively change dentists' perception of male dental hygienists.
The purpose of this study is to examine musculoskeletal disorders and grasp the relationship between working environment factors and stress and musculoskeletal disorders in dental hygienists. The self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted with 483 dental hygienists working in Gwangju who were selected by convenience sampling. Frequency analysis, crosstab analysis, t-test, and multiple logistic regression analysis were made. Subjects' musculoskeletal disorders that complain of severe pains were 29.8%. The relationship between working environment factors and stress and musculoskeletal disorders were examined. As a result, work break frequency of working environment factors and stress were found to influence musculoskeletal disorders. For working environment factors, the odds ratio of musculoskeletal disorders of the two breaks group was 0.29 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.11~0.73), compared with the no break group, indicating less musculoskeletal disorders. However, no significant difference was found in one break and more than three breaks groups. The odds ratio of musculoskeletal disorders of stress was 0.44 (95% CI, 0.27~0.70), indicating negative correlation. As break frequency was moderate (two breaks), musculoskeletal disorders became decreased. Stress showed negative correlation with musculoskeletal disorders.
This research had the following results after analyzing the questionnaires and the survey on 51 people experienced smoking and 51 people unexperienced smoking out of patients who participated in the practice hours of Department of Dental Hygiene to study the relevance between smoking which is one of the partial factors of oral disease and oral health. 1. 78.4% of patients smoke more while drinking, which level is still high, so it threatens the oral health. 2. 22.5 % of patients had the experience of scaling within recent 1 year, which level is still low. 3. The people who experienced smoking realized the harmfulness of smoking and during the toothbrushing, the level of self-consciousness about halitosis and bleeding gum is higher than the unexperienced. 4. The frequency of smokers' toothbrushing on the average a day is lower than non-smokers. 5. Simplified oral hygiene index of men(4.98) is higher than woman(4.00) and the people experienced smoking(4.59) is higher than the unexperienced(4.18), which means that man and the person who experienced smoking has the bad oral environment.
Purpose: This study is conducted to evaluate the job stressors for dental technicians in Ulsan city. Methods: The Korean standard job stressors assessment tool developed by Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) was used to compare the survey result with Korean reference value. The questionnaire on the social, demographic and job characteristics of dental technicians was also used to find the factors affecting to job stressors by using multiple linear regression analysis. Results: A total of 155 questionnaire was collected from 2010 to 2011. Among the eight fields of stressors, the physical environment (men 50.0, women; 58.3) and job demands (men 57.1, women 57.1) were higher than the median value of the Korean Workers. By multiple linear regression analysis, the significant factors to the physical environment were the satisfaction degree of indoor odor, number of employee, duty and working hours. In terms of the job demand, duty, working hours, age, and the satisfaction to the efficiency of space utilization were significantly associated to the score of job demand. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is necessary to manage appropriate workload, control indoor odor and design an efficient work space for prevention of job stress of dental technicians.
