The interaction of group shown a significance (p<.05). 2) In the case of using goniometer, all three groups had the significant difference in period (p<.05) and the interaction of group-period shown a significance(p<.05). 3) In the case of using VAS, all three group had the significant differences in period(p<.05) and the interaction of group-period shown a significance(p<.05). Conclusions : These findings suggested that Taping and Massage had effect on DOMS.
To develop novel transdermal formulation for aceclofenac, microemulsion was prepared for increasing its skin permeability. Based on solubiity and phase studies, oil and surfactant was selected and composition was determined. Microemulsion was spontaneously prepared by mixing ingredients and the physicochemical properties such was investigated. The mean diameters of microemulsion were approximately 90 nm and the system was physically stable at room temperature at least for 3 months. In addition, the in vitro and in vivo performance of microemulsion formulation was evaluated. Aceclofenac was released from microemulsion in acidic aqueous medium, and dissolved amounts of aceclofenac was approximately 30% after 240 min. Skin permeation of aceclofenac from microemulsion formulation was higher than that of cream. Following transdermal application of aceclofenac preparation to delayed onset muscle soreness, serum creatine phosphokinase and lactate dehydrogenase activity was significantly reduced by aceclofenac. Aceclofenac in microemulsion was more potent than cream in the alleviation of muscle pain. Therefore, the microemulsion formulation of aceclofenac appear to be a reasonable transdermal delivery system of the drug with enhanced skin permeability and efficacy for the treatment of muscle damage.
We report a 12-month-old female infant who had a history of neonatal sepsis with liver micro-abscesses that resolved with intravenous antibiotics during neonatal period. During her neonatal admission period, no umbilical vein catheter was inserted. Also, she did not undergo any abdominal surgeries or had a postnatal history of necrotizing enterocolitis. However, the child developed upper gastrointestinal bleeding in form of hematemesis and melena secondary to esophageal varices at the age of 12 months with an extra-hepatic portal vein obstruction with cavernous transformation and portal hypertension subsequently. The child underwent a successful endoscopic injection sclerotherapy. She is now 20-month-old and has portal hypertension but otherwise asymptomatic. We are proposing the possibility of a delayed-onset portal hypertension as a complication of liver abscess and neonatal sepsis.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the effect of hold-relax and antagonist contraction (HR-AC) technique and Kinesio taping on pain changes in delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) of 20's adults. Methods: Based on voluntary participation, 14 participants with induced-DOMS were randomly divided into control (non-treatment, n=7) and experiment group (HR-AC technique and kinesio taping, n=7). Measurement were used visual analogue scale (VAS), heart rate variability (HRV), and brain wave (alpha). There were 5 sets of the HR-AC technique application on the 5th day from the day of DOMS induction (rest for 30s between sets). Kinesio taping was applied to the same area after HR-AC. Results: The VAS showed significant changes according to the period and in the interaction between the period and the group (p<.01). HRV and alpha wave (Fp1) showed significant changes according to the period (p<.001). The analgesic effect was more rapid and continuous in the experimental group than in the control group. Conclusion: This study showed that the HR-AC technique and Kinesio taping are effective interventions for the management of pain and stress caused by DOMS.

Purpose : Thyroid hormone is essential for development of the brain in early life. Thyroid dysfunction is more common in the first 2-4 postnatal weeks of life in premature infants than in term infants. This study aimed to identify the prevalence and clinical course of thyroid dysfunction in prematurity. Methods : Premature infants admitted to and given neonatal screenings at Dankook University Hospital between April 1999 and March 2008 were included in this study. We retrospectively reviewed medical records and categorized subjects into six groups: normal, hypothyroidism, hyperthyrotropinemia, hypothyroxinemia, delayed onset of hypothyroidism, and delayed onset of hyperthyrotropinemia. Results : Among 599 subjects, 136 (23%) had initially abnormal thyroid function test (TFT); transient hypothyroxinemia was the most frequent condition (118, 20%). In addition, 8 (17%) of 46 subjects with initially normal TFT levels showed delayed onset of hyperthyrotropinemia with or without low free thyroxine ($fT_4$). Thyroxine was prescribed for 10 patients (1.7%) due to low $fT_4$ levels but was discontinued in 9 patients during follow-up. Thyroid scan confirmed ectopic thyroid in one patient. Conclusion : Thyroid dysfunction was frequently seen in premature infants, but most of the conditions were transient. In addition, some infants showed delayed TSH elevation on routine follow-up. Therefore, a recheck of the thyroid function of premature infants at 3-4 weeks is recommended, even if normal thyroid function is initially seen, especially in prematurity of less than 33 weeks of gestational age or birth weight of less than 2,500 grams.
The purpose of this dissertation is to study some of the vulcanization characteristics of rubber-bound antioxidants such as G-1, [N-(3-methacryloyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylene diamine] and acryl, acrylamide & acrylester substituted hindered phenols. The influence of these antioxidants upon vulcanization characteristics in NR and SBR compounds in the presence of vulcanizing accelerators such as MSA, TT, DM, M & D was evaluated by means of Oscillationg Disk Cure Meter. The comparison was also made between the influence of rubber-bound antioxidants and that of conventional non-reactive antioxidants such as N-alkyl substituted PADA series. Regarding the influence of reactive type antioxidant G-1 mixed with accelerator TT upon vulcanization characteristics, rapid onset of vulcanization and higher degree of cross-linking were discovered, whereas in the case of accelerator M and DM, the result was slow onset of vulcanization and lesser degree of cross-linking. The comparison of vulcanizing characteristics among acrylic substituted hindered phenols as antioxidants was made under several vulcanization accelerator systems. Under such systems, MSA-S combined accelerator caused the onset of vulcanization to slow down and lowered the degree of cross-linking. Finally in the case of hindered phenol derivatives containing longer substituent, the delayed onset of vulcanization and the lowered degree of cross-linking could be discerned.

Munc18, a mammalian homolog of C. elegans Unc, is essential for neurotransmitter release. The aim of this study was to identify estrogen-dependent expression of Munc18-1 and its role in the regulation of glutamate release for puberty onset. Hypothalamic munc18-1 mRNA levels were significantly increased by estrogen treatment in ovariectomized, immature female rats. During pubertal development, the munc18-1 mRNA levels dramatically increased between the juvenile period and the anestrous phase of puberty. Intracerebroventricular administration of an antisense oligodeoxynucleotide against munc18-1 mRNA significantly decreased glutamate release and delayed the day of puberty onset. These results suggest that Munc18-1, expressed in an estrogen-dependent manner, plays an important role in the onset of female puberty via the regulation of glutamate release.
Objective : Individuals with anxiety disorders experience a wide range of time to seeking treatment (TST) as well as various comorbid mental disorders. The present study examined the TST in social anxiety disorder (SAD) and panic disorder. This study aimed to find out the influence of comorbid mental disorder on TST of anxiety disorder through the comparison of SAD and panic disorder. Methods : This study included 311 SAD and 378 panic disorder patients at the initial visit of psychiatric clinic. Contribution of clinical (number of comorbidity, comorbid type and onset age) and demographic (current age) factors to TST were investigated by multivariate analysis. Results : The median length of TST was 14.03 years in SAD and 2.26 years in panic disorder. In social anxiety disorder, fewer comorbidity, younger onset age, and older age were factors associated with delayed TST. In panic disorder, only younger onset age was associated with delayed TST. In both disorders, comorbid depressive disorder was associated with shorter TST. Conclusion : Our data provided the differences in illness behavior needing help based on comorbid mental disorders between SAD and panic disorder. In addition to comorbid disorder, factors affecting TST of anxiety disorder requires future investigation.
Lateral epicondylitis is caused by repeated use of the wrist, which causes inflammation and pain in the wrist extensor and tendon of the humerus. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) caused by repetitive resistance exercise affects the tendons connected in series with the muscle, leading to lateral epicondylitis. Although micro-current stimulation has been suggested as a possible treatment for tendinitis, there are insufficient studies on specific variables such as frequency. In this study, 15 healthy adult males and females developed DOMS in the wrist extensor and tendon in the humerus. The experimental group consisted of a low frequency group applying 20 Hz and a high frequency group applying 100 Hz according to the micro-current frequency. Each subject underwent an experiment for 5 days after DOMS, and the recovery rates were compared by measuring AROM, GPT, MST, PPT, and VAS. As a result, the 20 Hz group showed significant changes in AROM, MST, and VAS compared to the control group on the 4th day, and the recovery rate was also higher than that of the 100 Hz group. On the 5th day, recovery rate of 100 Hz group was higher than 20 Hz in AROM and PPT, and MST showed higher recovery rate than 20 Hz group, but there was no significant difference. These results indicate that microcurrent stimulation is effective for the treatment of delayed myalgia and tendon inflammation and that the 100 Hz group has faster recovery than the 20 Hz group.
