  • This paper introduces the high-resolution channel estimation technique which are used to estimate the first arrival multipath delay component. The proposed technique yields the precise estimate of the first time arrival which is directly related to the performance of TDOA-based position location. The proposed technique utilizes the transformed auto-correlation function of received common pilot signal in frequency domain, its samples compose the hermitian Toeplitz matrix at sequel. Then the time delay components could be estimated with precision by the analysis of eigen-structure of corresponding matrix. In this paper, obeying the modified CODIT model, the performance of the PR-IPDL(Pseudo Random-Idle Period Downlink) and TA-IPDL(Time Aligned-Idle Period Downlink considered as 3GPP position location technique will be exploited systematically through the computer simulations with applying the proposed technique.

  • We consider a statistical multiplexer model with finite buffer capacity and finite number of independent identical 3-state bursty voice sources. The burstiness of the sources is modeled by describing both two different active periods (at the rate of one packet perslot) and the passive periods during which no packets are generated. Assuming a mixture of two geometric distributions for active period and a geometric distribution for passive period and geometric distribution for passive period, we derive the recursive algorithm for the probability mass function of the buffer contents (in packets). We also obtain loss probability and the distribution of packet delay. Numerical results show that the system performance deteriorates considerably as the variance of the active period increases. Also, we see that the loss probability of 2-state Markov models is less than that of 3-state Markov models.

  • Beamforming for underwater acoustic communication (UAC) is affected by the broadband feature of UAC signal, which has relatively low currier frequency as compared to the signal bandwidth. The narrow-band assumption does not hold good in UAC. In this paper, we discuss a broadband FIR beamformer for UAC using the baseband equivalent way signal model. We consider the broadband FIR beamformer for QPSK UAC with carrier frequency 25kHz and symbol rate 5kHz. Array geometry is a uniform linear way with 8 omni-directional elements and sensor spacing is the half of the carrier wavelength. The simulation results show that the broadband n beamformer achieves nearly optimum signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) and outperforms the conventional narrowband beamformer by SINR 0.5dB when two-tap FIR filter is employed at each sensor and the inter-tap delay is a quarter of the symbol interval. The broadband FIR beamformer performance is more degraded as the FIR filter length is increased above a certain value. If the inter-tap delay is not greater than half of the symbol period, SINR performance does not depend on the inter-tap delay. More training period is required when the inter-tap delay is same as the symbol period.

  • Networked control systems(NCSs) have gained increasing attention in recent years due to their advantages and potential applications. The network Quality-of-Service(QoS) in NCSs always fluctuates due to changes of the traffic load and available network resources. To handle the network QoS variations problem, this paper presents an intelligent scheduling control method for NCSs, where the sampling period and the control parameters are simultaneously scheduled to compensate the effect of QoS variation on NCSs performance. For NCSs with network-induced delays and packet dropouts, a discrete-time switch model is proposed. By defining a sampling-period-dependent Lyapunov function and a common quadratic Lyapunov function, the stability conditions are derived for NCSs in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Based on the obtained stability conditions, the corresponding controller design problem is solved and the performance optimization problem is also investigated. Simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

  • By means of the compatibility according to solving environmental pollution and energy problem due to the emissions of NOx and smoke from diesel engine this paper experimentally inspected the effect of using emulsified fuel, gas oil-water, for combustion characteristic, that is combustion pressure, pressure rise rate, heat generating rate, the period of ignition delay and specific fuel consumption, and CO, HC, NOx concentration and smoke density. When using emulsified fuel, as a water addition rate was increased, combustion pressure, pressure rise rate and heat generating rate was increased, the period of ignition delay was lengthening, the specific fuel consumption was some what increased in contrast to diesel fuel in low load, but deceased in high load region. And NOx concentration was decreased, CO concentration was increased in low load, but decreased in high load region, HC concentration was increased in contrast to diesel fuel in all region.

  • The effect of reentrant type bowl geometry on combustion characteristics was investigated in a D.I. diesel engine. The main factor was the aspect ratio (Bowl Diameter / Bowl Depth) of bowl of combustion chamber, and the cylinder pressure, engine performance and emissions of the engine using the 4 kinds of the combustion chamber were meadured. Also, the combustion characteristics compared of the experimented and the calculated values which is used by the Hiroyasu's combustion model. The results are as follows; The effect of $d_c/H$ on ignition delay period are small. The smoke is corerelated to the heat release of the premixed and the diffusion combustion, i.g, the smoke decreased by decreasing the premixed combustion or increasing the diffusion combustion on cumulative heat release. The premixed combustion process has more effect than the diffusion combustion on smoke. The formal tendency of $d_c/H$ on engine performance has not appear.

  • Three-level NPC inverters have been put into practical use for years especially in high voltage high power grids. This paper researches three-level active power filters (APFs). In this paper a mathematical model in the d-q coordinates is presented for 3-phase 3-wire NPC APFs. The deadbeat control scheme is obtained by using state equations. Canceling the delay of one sampling period and providing the predictive value of the harmonic current is a key problem of the deadbeat control. Based on this deadbeat control, the predictive output current value is obtained by the state observer. The delay of one sampling period is remedied in this digital control system by the state observer. The predictive harmonic command current value is obtained by the repetitive predictor synchronously. The repetitive predictor can achieve a better prediction of the harmonic current with the same sampling frequency, thus improving the overall performance of the system. The experiment results indicate that the steady-state accuracy and the dynamic response are both satisfying when the proposed control scheme is implemented.

  • Ring networks are very commonly exploited among local area and metropolitan area networks (LAN/MAN), whereas cells or small fixed-size packets are widely used in synchronized ring networks. In this paper, we present an analytical method for evaluating the delay-throughput performance of a MAC protocol with multiple self-tokens in a slotted ring network under uniform traffic. In our analysis, we introduce the stationary probability, which indicates the number of packets in a node. Also, it is assumed that each node has a sufficiently large amount of self-tokens, and a slotted ring has the symmetry. The analytical results with respect to delay-throughput performance have similar values to computer simulated ones. Furthermore, in order to achieve fair access under non-uniform traffic, we propose an adaptive MAC protocol, where the number of self-tokens in a node dynamically varies, based on the number of packets transmitted within a specified period. In the proposed protocol, when the number of packets transmitted by a node within a specified period is larger than a specified threshold, the node decreases the number of self-tokens in a per-node distributed method. That results in creating free slots in the ring, thus all nodes can obtain an equal opportunity to transmit into the ring. Performance results obtained by computer simulation show that our proposed protocol can maintain throughput fairness under non-uniform traffic.

  • MAC state models appeared with an effort to overcome technical demerits of CDMA in provisioning packet data service. In the scenario of sojourn and transition on MAC states, the design of state sojourn time is a critical issue for an efficient utilization of limited recource; a longer sojourn time leads to more resource being preserved for inactive stations, while more connection components should be recovered with a shorter sojourn time. Thus, the sojourn time at each MAC state must be optimized in consideration of these two conflicting arguments. In this paper, we first present a generic MAC state model. Secondly, based on the generic model, we reveal a relation of inactive period and the delay time of the last packet served in pre- ceding active period and specify a loss function reflect-ing two antinomic features that result from a change of state sojourn time. Using the proposed loss function, we construct a decision problem to find an optima3 rule for state sojourn times. Finally, we present a way of computing Bayes rule by use of the posterior distribution of inactivity duration for given observation on the delay time of last packet. Furthermore, Bayes rules are explicitly expressed for special arrival processes and investigated with respect to traffic load and loss parameters.
