  • In this study, we present an approach to parallelizing OPF that is suitable for distributed implementation and is applicable to very large inter-connected power systems. The approach could be used by utilities for optimal economy interchange without disclosing details of their operating costs to competitors. It could also be used to solve several other computational tasks, such as state estimation and power flow, in a distributed manner. The proposed algorithm was demonstrated with several case study systems.

  • In this paper, we consider a decentralized observer design problem for fault detection in large-scaled linear time-invariant systems. Since the fault detection residual is desired to be sensitive on the fault, we use the H_ index performance criterion. Sufficient conditions for the existence of such an observer is presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper considers the problem of stabilizing a composite system formed by interconnecting a number of single-input single-output linear continuous systems. The problem is general in the sense that in addition to the standard assumption about the uncertainty of the subsystems, the strength of interconnections is assumed unknown. A method to design a local adaptive feedback control is first presented, and then the resultant closed-loop system is assured to be globally stable. Also, a numerical example is illustrated via computer simulation.

  • In this paper self tuning control of interconnected systems are dealt in view point of large scale system control. The plant model is given in multiple ARMA process. This process is simplified as independent SISO ARMA process having offset terms. This offset was considered as effects of interconnections. In each decentralized system, self tuning controller with instrumental variable method is adopted. As a result, this algorithm enables the parameter estimation to be unbiased and non-drift. This controller contains a new implicit offset rejection technique. Simulation results considers well with the analysis in case of linear interconnection.

  • Almost base-loaded power plants such as flaming coal and nuclear energy require large-scale transmission facilities (LTFs) in order to send electricity to remote consumption areas. As well known, LTFs incur various social costs. However, a decentralized generation source such as integrated energy business (IEB)-based combined heat and power (CHP) plant is located in nearby electricity-consuming area, and thus it does not demand LTFs, providing the benefits from avoiding the damages caused by them. This study attempts to measure the benefits of avoiding the damages from the LTFs by the use of the contingent valuation (CV) method. To this end, a national survey of randomly chosen 1,000 households was implemented and the public's willingness to pay (WTP) for substituting consumption of electricity generated from flaming coal-fired power plant, currently a dominant generation source in Korea, with that produced from IEB-based CHP plant. The results show that the WTP for the substitution is estimated to be about 41.4 won per kWh. Considering that this value amounts to 33% of the average price of residential electricity in 2014, the external benefit of the IEB-based CHP as a decentralized generation appears to be large.

  • This paper is concerned with an iterative linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach to the design of a structurally constrained output feedback controller such as decentralized control. The structured synthesis is formulated as a novel rank-constrained LMI optimization problem, where the controller parameters are explicitly described so as to impose structural constraints on the parameter matrices. An iterative penalty method is applied to solve the rank-constrained LMI problem. Numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Recently, IoT and Big Data dealing with voluminous and complex sensitive information is one of the key issues in the era of the 4th industrial revolution. There have been a lot of studies to store the collected and processed sensitive information safely in storage data. Especially biometric information, if it is leaked and becomes identity theft, is hard to be corrected and results in serious event. To fix the problem, methods such as FIDO or KFTC have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a modified method of TTAK.KO-12.0098 according to the environment of this paper and propose a method of safely storing the generated disposable template in a block chain. We show that our method is better by comparing the existing method and the security analysis.

  • The Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller is the most popular industrial controller and more than 90% process industries use this controller. During the past 50 years, numerous good tuning methods have been proposed for Single Input Single Output Systems. However, design of PI/PID controllers for multivariable processes is a challenge for the researchers. A comparative study of three PID controllers design methods has been carried-out. These methods include the DS (Direct Synthesis) method, IMC (Internal model Control) method and ETF (Effective Transfer Function) method. MIMO PID controllers are designed for a number of 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 process models with multiple delays. The performance of the three methods has been evaluated through simulation studies in Matlab/Simulink environment. After extensive simulation studies, it is found that the Effective Transfer Function (ETF) Method produces better output responses among two methods. In this work, only decentralized methods of PID controllers have been studied and investigated.
