Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine job involvement according to working pattern and daytime sleepiness in hospital nurses. Methods: At 2 hospitals in affiliation of university, after obtaining participant's consent form, data were collected from October to November, 2007. Twohundred fifty nurses participated in the study. Questionnaire consisted of Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Job Involvement. Collected data was analyzed with SPSS 14.0 program, which was used for frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: Major findings of this study were as follows 1) The nurses for 3 shift work was 172 (68.8%), the nurses for 2 shift work was 3 (1.2%) and the nurses for day fixation was 75 (30.0%). 2) Mean of ESS was 5.94 (3.28), daytime sleepiness was 13.2% and Job involvement had a mean of $21.27.{\pm}4.61.3$) There were significant differences between shift work and day fixed work on ESS (t=4.33, p<.001), job involvement (t=6.54, p<.001). Higher ESS were significantly related to lower job involvement (r=-.185, p=.003). Conclusion: The finding of this study gives useful informations about sleep and work involvement of hospital nurses. It is need to develop systemic management for shift work nurses by hospital, nurse organization, and government.
Many types of medication regimens have been used for controlled ovarian hyperstimulation for assisted reproductive technique(ART). Questions are now being raised regarding how to lower the escalating costs of assisted reproduction and decrease the extent of patient discomfort and disruption of life style without sacrificing success rates. In this investigation, from January 1994 through August 1994 patients presenting to the Chung-Ang university hospital, infertility clinic were offered the option of the clomiphene citrate (CC)/single Human Menopausal Gonadotropin(HMG) combination and conventional GnRH-agonist combination method. 60 patients (78 cycles) were given CC/single HMG combination as a study group, and 78 patients (102 cycles) were given conventional GnRH-a combined ultrashort protocol as a control group for IVF-ET program and the resulting number of oocyte retrieved, embryo produced, and pregnancy initiated were compared. There were no differences between the two groups in mean age, serum $E_2$, LH and FSH level on menstrual cycle day 2. HMG requirement was 2 ampules in study group and $24.2{\pm}6.8$ ampules in control group. On the day of HCG injection, serum LH and FSH levels were not significantly different, but serum $E_2$, was significantly higher in control group(p<0.001). There was relatively well endometrial quality in control group but not significant compare to study group. In control group, numbers of retrieved oocyte and transferred embryo were significantly more than study group(p<0.001). Fertilization rate was not significantly different in the two groups and pregnancy rates were 20.2% in study group 28.4% in control group(p<0.001). CC/single HMG protocol for IVF-ET is less expensive than GnRH-a combined ultrashort protocol and minimizes patients discomfort. In addition, CC/single HMG protocol produces acceptable pregnancy rate and represents an attractive alternative to select patients undergoing IVF-ET.
Purpose: This study aimed to determine the influence of a breastfeeding coaching program (BCP) for mothers of late preterm infants (LPIs) on the breastfeeding rate and neonatal morbidity within 1 month after discharge. Methods: This was a non-randomized quasi-experimental study with a time series design. The participants were 40 LPIs and their mothers who were hospitalized in a neonatal intensive care unit at a university hospital. Nineteen LPIs were assigned to the control group, and 21 to the experimental group. The mothers of the LPIs in the experimental group received the BCP once on the discharge day and then once a week for 1 month. Neonatal morbidity was defined as an outpatient department or emergency room visit due to an LPI's health problem. Results: The breastfeeding rate in the experimental group was significantly higher than in the control group at the fourth week after discharge (χ2=7.17, p=.028). Five and two LPIs in the control group and the experimental group, respectively, visited a hospital due to neonatal jaundice. Neonatal morbidity was not significantly different between the two groups (χ2=1.95, p=.164). Conclusion: The BCP was useful for improving the breastfeeding rates of LPIs and may have potential to reduce neonatal morbidity.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of noise block on anxiety and vital sign of gynecologic laparoscopic surgery. Methods: The data were collected from March to May 2011. Participants were sixty patients with gynecologic laparoscopic surgery, divided into 30 of experimental group and 30 of control group at C University hospital located in I city. The day before surgery, demographic data, trait-state anxiety and vital signs were measured at ward. After noise block, the data were measured using VAS anxiety and vital signs before anesthesia and in recovery room. And then state anxiety and vital signs were measured in ward after surgery. The data were analyzed by $x^2$-test, t-test, repeated measured ANOVA and Bonferroni comparison method using SPSS/WIN 19.0. Results: After conducting noise block program, the experimental group showed significant decrease in state anxiety and heart rate compared to those of the control group. But there were not significant differences in VAS anxiety, systolic pressure and diastolic pressure between two groups. Conclusion: This program can be regarded as an effective nursing intervention for the management of anxiety with gynecologic laparoscopic surgery.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of depression, self-efficacy and social support on suicidal ideation in people with mental disorder. The participants for this study were 165 patients from psychiatric hospital, day hospital, community mental health center and nursing home, located in Busan. A self-report survey was used for data collection, which was carried out from May 1 to 30, 2011. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS21.0 program. According to results, Suicidal ideation was influenced by age, number of admission, psychiatric diagnosis and history of suicidal attempts. This study showed that suicide ideation had positive correlation with depression, negative with social support. History of suicidal attempt, depression, self-esteem and social support accounted for 52.8% regarding suicidal ideation. Based on the outcomes of this study, it is necessary to design an intervention program that emphasizes decreasing depression and suicidal attempt and increasing the self-esteem and social support in order to decrease suicidal ideation.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficiency of the electronic foot function index (eFFI) through a prospective, random based, multi-institutional study. Materials and Methods: The study included 227 patients ranging in age from 20 to 79 years, visited for surgery in different 15 institutes, and agreed to volunteer. The patients were assigned randomly into a paper-based evaluated group (n=113) and tablet-based evaluated group (n=114). The evaluation was done on the day of hospital admission and the method was changed on the second day of surgery and re-evaluated. PADAS 2.0 (https://www.proscore.kr) was used as an electronic evaluation program. Results: There were no differences in age and sex in both groups. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) evaluation revealed an eFFI ICC of 0.924, showing that both results were similar. The evaluation time was shorter in the tablet-based group than the paper-based group (paper vs tablet, $3.7{\pm}3.8$ vs $2.3{\pm}1.3minutes$). Thirty-nine patients (17.2%) preferred to use paper and 131 patients (57.7%) preferred the tablet. Fifty-seven patients (25.1%) found both ways to be acceptable. Conclusion: eFFI through tablet devices appears to be more constant than the paper-based program. In addition, it required a shorter amount of time and the patients tended to prefer the tablet-based program. Overall, tablet and cloud system can be beneficial to a clinical study.
Western missionary nurses practiced in Korea from 1891. and the first trial to begin missionary public health nursing service in 1909 could not put into practice for short of nursing staff and budget. The main focus of missionary medical practice was not in public health program but in the management of missionary hospitals. A few of missionary western R.N. tried district nursing in 1910s. but their activities were personal and focused on the rescue of poor and sick patients. In 1917 the North American Methodist Church dispatched R.N. Elizabeth S. Roberts to begin district nursing in Korea. Roberts began maternal and child district nursing service. Her service was focused on teaching the method of bringing up children. bathing service, and home visiting for delivery. She could not but stop district-nursing service in 1918 to serve for a hospital in Siberia. The North American Methodist Church dispatched a few of R.N. to Korea in early 1920s and the missionary public health nursing of Korea could be activated. R.N. E. T. Rosenberger began public health nursing program in Seoul with Korean graduate nurse, Shin-gwang Han, and missionary M.D. Hall. Their public health nursing program was focused on maternal and childcare. They did home visiting in the morning, and served at a well baby clinic in the afternoon. The first baby competition began in 1925. and contributed to the teaching the method of bringing up children. They expanded public health nursing activity to school health nursing and milk station. Their public health nursing program was such a success that In 1929 Severance hospital. Eastgate Hospital. Taehwa Social Evangelistic center organized Seoul Child Health Union. Maren P. Bording, another missionary R.N. and midwife dispatched by the North American Methodist Church began public health nursing program at Kongjoo in 1924. Her program was focused on the maternal and childcare and close to that of Seoul. She started the first milk station in Korea in 1926. As she was a midwife and could get M. D. license in Korea, her program was more focused on maternal care than that of Seoul. The first day nursery school in Korea and the first graduate course for public health nursing in Korea began at Kongjoo in 1930. As the city of Choongcheongnam Province moved from Kongjoo to Daejeon in 1932, missionary public health nursing service in Kongjoo extended to Daejeon. There were lots of public health nursing program in Korea in 1920s and 1930s by missionary western nurses and Korean nurses. There were 13 missionary public health-nursing center in Korea in 1932. But in the late 1930s. Japan extended colonial war and drove out western missionaries. The missionary service in Korea was daunted. and the missionary public health nursing service could not but shrink.

The health care environment becomes more competitive every day. It has fallen to nurse managers - from vice presidents of patient care to nurse managers and their assistants - to recruit and develop a workforce that successfully meets the needs of both patients and the organization. This means employees who demonstrate advanced critical thinking skills, creative problem solving, and sound decision making skills combined with clinical skills and patient advocacy. The environment which nurse managers create and the way they relate to their workforce, are pivotal to organizational viability. Especially leadership of first -line nurse managers contributes to the success of their organizations. First-line nurse managers are deserved to be one of the most administrative supervisors through the middle stratum in a hospital organization as being a manager in the field service if assessed from the overall aspects of hospital, as being an interim managers in the nursing department as well as being a supreme supervisor in a unit in terms of an organizational structure in the hospital. Similarly, as a compete leader, the first-line nurse managers have not only a professional which is qualified to perform a role of appropriate coordination with medical staff and key personnel but also hold an important key position a being responsible for performing his or her given role. The first-line nurse manager is expected to manage human and fiscal resources in ways not required before. While an identified need for well-prepared first-line nurse manager continues to plague the profession, first-line nurse managers often have difficulty providing the leadership required. The need leadership training to function effectively in their positions. But we hardly find a useful leadership training program for first-line nurse managers, therefore the purpose of this study was to developed the leadership training program for them. The steps of leadership program development were below: 1st step, 2 studies were done before develop a leadership program. One was done to ask to first-line nurse managers what they want to learn through leadership training, the other one was to ask the staff nurses what their opinions are for their first-line nurse managers leadership. 2nd step was searching other leadership programs contents. The results of this study were below: The total amount of hours is 24. Leadership training program contents are : Future of nursing profession (210min), understanding basic factor's of leadership and leadership theories(310 min), self understanding as first- line nurse managers(320 min), basic principle and practice of interpersonal relationship(210 min), assertiveness training, conflict management (180min), and group study(210min). This is challenging time to be a leader, especially in nursing. As nurse managers look toward the new millennium, it seems as through the same struggles are ahead that are behind. So nurse managers need to embrace change with a positive attitude. They need to demonstrate risk taking and support it in their staffs. All these things are possible that after they participate the leadership training program.
Purpose. To investigate the effects of a video education program on anxiety, pain, adherence to self care of knee arthroscopy surgery. Methods. The data were collected from July to October 2012. The participants were 25 people in the experimental group and 25 in the control group. The video education, which was 30 minutes in length, was shown before operation day using a CD. Results. In the experimental group, adherence to self care increased significantly, and anxiety, VAS is not significantly compared to the control group. Conclusions. It has been confirmed that video education program has positive effects on adherence to self care for patients following arthroscopy surgery.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of an educational program on parturient women's feeding behavior One hundred and twenty seven mothers who delivered in one general hospital in Seoul participated in the study, 66 mothers of whom were assigned to experimental group and 61, to control group. The data collection was done from April 20 to June 30 in 1997 and the educational program was applied to the experimental group on the third postpartum day and telephone calls were made on the fourth and the twelfth postpartum week to investigate feeding behavior after discharge. The collected data were analyzed by means of Chi-square test and descriptive statistics. The results are as follows : 1. Breast-feeding rate of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group($x^2$=6.578, p=.043). 2. Background variables affecting feeding behavior were age and feeding plan(age: $x^2$=8.660, p=.070, feeding plan : $x^2$=25.762, p=.000). 3. The insufficient milk supply was the main cause of discontinuing breast-feeding and others were mother's job, baby's jaundice and diarrhea, baby's refusal to suck breastmilk. In conclusion, the breast-feeding educational program which was applied in this study is effective in the promotion of breast-feeding.
