  • Virtual metrology (VM), a critical component of semiconductor manufacturing, is an efficient way of assessing the quality of wafers not actually measured. This is done based on a model between equipment sensor data (obtained for all wafers) and the quality characteristics of wafers actually measured. This paper considers principal component regression (PCR), partial least squares regression (PLSR), kernel PCR (KPCR), and kernel PLSR (KPLSR) as VM models. For each regression model, two cases are considered. One utilizes all explanatory variables in developing a model, and the other selects significant variables using the genetic algorithm (GA). The prediction performances of 8 regression models are compared for the short- and long-term etch process data. It is found among others that the GA-KPLSR model performs best for both types of data. Especially, its prediction ability is within the requirement for the short-term data implying that it can be used to implement VM for real etch processes.

  • The number of imaging data sets has significantly increased during radiation treatment after introducing a diverse range of advanced techniques into the field of radiation oncology. As a consequence, there have been many studies proposing meaningful applications of imaging data set use. These applications commonly require a method to align the data sets at a reference. Deformable image registration (DIR) is a process which satisfies this requirement by locally registering image data sets into a reference image set. DIR identifies the spatial correspondence in order to minimize the differences between two or among multiple sets of images. This article describes clinical applications, validation, and algorithms of DIR techniques. Applications of DIR in radiation treatment include dose accumulation, mathematical modeling, automatic segmentation, and functional imaging. Validation methods discussed are based on anatomical landmarks, physical phantoms, digital phantoms, and per application purpose. DIR algorithms are also briefly reviewed with respect to two algorithmic components: similarity index and deformation models.

  • In this paper, a real-time communication method using a PICNET-NP(Plant instrumentation and Control Network for Nuclear Power plant) is proposed with an analysis of the control network requirements of DCS(Distributed Control System) in nuclear power plants. The method satisfies deadline in case of worst data traffics by considering aperiodic and periodic real-time data and others. In addition, the method was used to analyze the data characteristics of the DCS in existing nuclear power plant. The result shows that use of this method meets the response time requirement(100ms).

  • Video data compression is a major key technology in the field of multimedia applications. Variable-length coding is the most popular data compression technique which has been used in many data compression standards, such as JPEG, MPEG and image data compression standards, etc. In this paper, we present memory efficient VLC decoder architecture for MPEG-2 application which can achieve small memory space and higher throughput. To reduce the memory size, we propose a new grouping, remainder generation method and merged lookup table (LUT) for variable length decoders (VLD's). In the MPEG-2, the discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficient table zero and one are mapped onto one memory whose space requirement has been minimized by using efficient memory mapping strategy The proposed memory size is only 256 words in spite of mapping two DCT coefficient tables.

  • In this paper, a framework for power allocation of downlink transmissions in orthogonal frequency division multiple access-based decode-and-forward cellular relay networks is investigated. We consider a system with a single base station communicating with multiple users assisted by multiple relays. The relays have limited power which must be divided among the users they support in order to maximize the data rate of the whole network. Advanced power allocation schemes are crucial for such networks. The optimal relay power allocation which maximizes the data rate is proposed as an upper bound, by finding the optimal power requirement for each user based on knapsack problem formulation. Then by considering the fairness, a new relay power allocation scheme, called weighted-based scheme, is proposed. Finally, an efficient power reallocation scheme is proposed to efficiently utilize the power and improve the data rate of the network. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed power allocation schemes can significantly improve the data rate of the network compared to the traditional scheme.

  • Estimation of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is an important problem in wireless communication systems. It has been studied for various constellation types and channels using different estimation techniques. Maximum likelihood estimation is a technique which provides efficient and in most cases unbiased estimators. In this paper, we have applied maximum likelihood estimation for systems employing square or cross QAM signals which are undergoing slow flat Rayleigh fading. The problem has been considered under various scenarios like data-aided (DA), non-data-aided (NDA) and partially data-aided (PDA) and the performance of each type of estimator has been evaluated and compared. It has been observed that the performance of DA estimator is best due to usage of pilot symbols, with the drawback of greater bandwidth consumption. However, this can be catered for by using partially data-aided estimators whose performance is better than NDA systems with some extra bandwidth requirement.

  • Recently, the blockchain technology, which can decentralize business ecosystems using secure transactions without trusted intermediaries, has been spotlighted. Full nodes play an important role in maintaining decentralization in that they independently verify transactions using their full historical transaction data. However, the storage requirement of a full node for storing historical data is continuously increasing, and thus, has become harder for users to run a full node due to the heavy price for storage costs. In this paper, we investigate research trends on reducing the costs of storing blockchain transaction data so that nodes with low storage requirements can be used in the blockchain network.

  • Data confidentiality refers to the characteristic that information kept undisclosed or hidden from unauthorized parties. It considered a key security requirement in current supply chain management (SCM) systems. Currently, academia and industry tend to adopt blockchain and IoT technologies in order to develop efficient and secure SCM systems. However, providing confidential data sharing among these technologies is quite challenging due to the limitations associated with blockchain and IoT devices. This review paper illustrates the importance of preserving data confidentiality in SCM systems by highlighting the state of the art on confidentiality-preserving methodologies in the context of blockchain based IoT-SCM systems and the challenges associated with it.

  • Today's manufacturing environment is becoming a distributed manufacturing process in which a unique and specialized technological background is required in specific domains rather than having a single company execute all the manufacturing processes. This phenomenon is especially true in the automotive industry, where the sharing of product data between companies is rampant; however, this kind of interoperability causes many problems. When each company has its own method of managing product data, the sharing of product data in a distributed environment is a major problem. A data translator module or a data mapping module had to be developed for the exchange of data in heterogeneous systems of product data management (PDM); moreover, this type of module must be continually changed and improved due to the fact that PDM systems change for many reasons. In addition, the growth in corporate partnerships deepens the burden of developing and maintaining this module and creates further data exchange problems due to the increasing complexity of the system. This paper introduces a way of exchanging product data among heterogeneous PDM systems through the use of OpenPDM, which is a kind of virtual data warehouse. The implementation of a PDM integrating system is also discussed with respect to the requirement for a logical integration of product data which are physically distributed.

  • The final report of the Functional Requirement of Subject Authority Data(FRSAD), the 3rd report of the FRBR family model, is announced by IFLA in June, 2010. This model represents the international trends of subject authority control and suggests a direction to the future subject authority record suitable for the FRBR system. Therefore aims of this study are to analysis the FRSAD model in context of the FRBR family and apply the model to the subject headings and bibliographic records of Korean National Library. For these aims, we analyse the model focused on the entities, attributes, and relationships between entities. From this analysis, we have found the openness of the FRSAD, which does not force a certain entity types and has focus on the conceptual aspects of the entity not only the form of the headings. Moreover, we suggest examples by applying the FRSAD frame and facets of the FAST to the Headings of the NLSH and related KORMARC fields. The scope of this study is the additional entities of the FRBR groups, so personal names, corporate names, family names and titles are not included. As a result, it is necessary to determine the criteria for the types of thema and to apply the types consistently in bibliographic records. A follow up research will be needed to suggest more detailed examples.
