The subjects of this study were 101 college women residing in Daegu-si of Korea and 123 Japanese college women living in Saga-ken of Japan. A survey was conducted by each of the participants and was analyzed. This self-evaluation on obesity revealed that 47.5% of Korean college women answered that they were obese while 31.7% of Japanese college women responded they were. The results of this study show that there are about 5% of college women in both Japan and Korea who thought they were obese, even though they were actually normal or underweight. Both Korean and Japanese women who considered themselves obese selected wrong eating habits as the cause of their obesity. In terms of their recognition on ashamedness, Japanese college women showed rather stronger recognition than Korean ones. In addition, more Korean college women responded that they had been suggested to lose weight than Japanese ones. In terms of the factors that motivate weight control, few women in either Korea or Japan controlled their weight for health reasons. Most of the Korean and Japanese college women chose the size of their clothes, their undesirable look reflected on the mirror, or having no boyfriend as the chief motivating factors for weight control. In terms of their attitude towards weight control, Japanese college women checked their weight more frequently than Korean ones. Moreover, both Korean and Japanese college women were directly motivated to lose weight while they were talking with their friends.

  • As Korea is entering an aging society, the number of elderly people who need new denture or who have problems with their existing denture or adjacent tissue is increasing and it will double in 2018. Therefore, denture clinician system will lessen patients financial burden and introduce market economy to the dental prosthesis field. Therefore, Korea needs to adopt denture clinician system as soon as possible as USA or Canada to increase people s accessibility in quality and quantity. Denture clinician will determine the size and shape of denture after performing oral examination, make impression using various materials, fabricate denture, deliver and adjust completed denture to the patient, repair denture, and carry out financial management in the denture fabricating company or manage human resources. Considering denture clinicians services, American and European education system seems to be close to our system. Therefore, in this study, basic curriculums of several countries in Europe and America were reviewed and curriculum that meets Korean situation was suggested.

  • Swine dysentery caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae, an anaerobic, beta-hemolytic spirochete, is a severe mucohemorrhahic diarrheal disease that primarily affects pigs during the growing and finishing period. The current standard laboratory procedure to culture and identify B hyodysenteriae takes 3 to 7 days. This report present a rapid PCR for detection B hyodysenteriae in a single reaction using DNA from swine intestinal samples. The PCR produced a specific 421bp PCR product with template DNA purified from B hyodysenteriae, and the accuracy for detection of B hyodysenteriae by PCR results compared with those of conventional method was 100% in intestinal specimens. Nonspecific bands were not detected with B innocens, a nonpathogenic common inhabitant spirochete, including other enteric bacterial organisms. This procedure could detect as little as 50 pg of template DNA for B hyodysenteriae.

  • Objectives: This study evaluated the response in Daegu, Korea to the first wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic according to a public health emergency response model. Methods: After an examination of the official data reported by the city of Daegu and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as a literature review and advisory meetings, we chose a response model. Daegu's responses were organized into 4 phases and evaluated by applying the response model. Results: In phase 1, efforts were made to block further transmission of the virus through preemptive testing of a religious group. In phase 2, efforts were concentrated on responding to mass infections in high-risk facilities. Phase 3 involved a transition from a high-intensity social distancing campaign to a citizen participation-based quarantine system. The evaluation using the response model revealed insufficient systematic preparation for a medical surge. In addition, an incorporated health-related management system and protection measures for responders were absent. Nevertheless, the city encouraged the participation of private hospitals and developed a severity classification system. Citizens also played active roles in the pandemic response by practicing social distancing. Conclusions: This study employed the response model to evaluate the early response in Daegu to the COVID-19 pandemic and revealed areas in need of improvement or maintenance. Based on the study results, creation of a systematic model is necessary to prepare for and respond to future public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the educational status and needs of premature birth prevention, and to identify factors associated with preconception health behaviors. Methods: The study design was a crosssectional descriptive study. Data were collected through an online questionnaire survey, and the subjects were 192 women of childbearing age in Korea. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The proportion of subjects who received education on premature birth prevention was 8.9%, and 75.5% of subjects answered that they needed education on premature birth prevention. They demanded education through online media, small groups, cases, cartoons (webtoon) with stories, pictures, and videos. A related factor of preconception health behavior was self-efficacy for high-risk pregnancy health care (β=.20, p=.012), which accounted for 8.2% of the total variance related to preconception health behavior. Conclusion: There was a need for more development of education programs to prevent premature birth for women of childbearing age. Its education programs should be applied with online, small group activities using various educational media. It is also required to promote preconception health behavior through self-efficacy for high-risk pregnancy health care.

  • The National Competency Standard (NCS) is being implemented on the basis of a college of higher education. The college offers intensive education by organizing three areas of knowledge, skills and attitudes so that students can perform their full capacity at the same time as graduating in industrial field. Health Department at the College has been training for a variety of medical personnel, including medical technician regions. Especially, the medical technician and medical sector must be licensed to work in the medical field. Therefore, passing the national examination license is a prerequisite for employment. In this study, the health law scores of the third grade students (about 200 students) of the radiology department of D College were analyzed at weekly intervals. The weekly score acquisition can be predict the pattern of student class achievement of individual students. Furthermore, these results can predict the possibility of passing the radiation license examination for individual students.
