A Study on Compatibility between DTV and CDMA System (DTV와 CDMA 시스템간의 양립성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Korea has made a plan to allocate CH 14~CH 51 (470 MHz~698 MHz) for DTV. This paper assumes that DTV operates on CH 51 (692 MHz~698 MHz) and CDMA system operates on CH 52 (698 MHz~704 MHz) in spare band. Minimum Coupling Loss (MCL) method to get protection distance and Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT) to get guard band through 5 % interference probability are used. The protection distance is required to be 665.67 km at close frequency offset of 698.625 MHz between DTV transmitter and CDMA Base Station (BS) receiver. The required guard band between DTV transmitter and CDMA Mobile Station (MS) receiver is 5 MHz for the worst case of rural environment. There is no serious impact between CDMA MS transmitter and DTV receiver. The required guard band between CDMA BS transmitter and DTV receiver is 6.25 MHz for the worst case of urban environment. The analysis results may offer a reference and be helpful for considering interference between DTV and other communication systems.

Novel Out-of-band Emission Measurement Method for Terrestrial DTV Transmitter using Pre-Compensation Method (사전보정기법을 사용한 새로운 지상파 DTV 대역외발사강도 측정법)

  • In this paper, out-of-band emission regulations and measurement methods of terrestrial DTV broadcasting services are analyzed, and a novel method to evaluate the out-of-band emission characteristics of DTV transmitter is proposed. Experimental results show that proposed method can be easily used to measure the characteristics of DTV transmitter with inexpensive measuring equipments. With a few modifications, proposed method can be widely adopted to measure the RF performances of the general radio equipments efficiently.

  • Recently, Transmitter Identification(TxID) technology has been issued as a technology of ATSC DTV. ATSC DTV networks are comprised of a plurality of transmitters, broadcasting the same signal sing one frequency network(SFN) connected to EDOCR. In this single frequency network, TxID technology has been recognized as a technology in the ATSC DTV system since it enables the broadcast authorities and classify multiple transmitters. However, conventional TxID uses extremely long spreading sequence to identifying transmitters, so it increases H/W complexity and registers. Thus, to solve those hardware problems, we propose an efficient signal processing technology using decimation algorithm. Furthermore, we certified the availability of the proposed algorithm via various simulations.

  • In a Single Frequency Network (SFN) for Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital television (DTV) system, the interferences induced by the multiple transmitters and/or repeaters using same frequency are unavoidable. To ease the interference handing in the SFN for ATSC DTV system, transmitter identification (TxID) signal is recommended in the ATSC terrestrial DTV system. The TxID signal is embedded in the ATSC DTV signal and transmitted from each transmitter and repeater within the SFN and in ATSC recommended practice (RP) A/111, Kasami sequence is recommended as the TxID signal. In this paper, we propose an additional data transmission scheme using the TxID signal. In the proposed scheme, the Kasami sequence not only acts as the conventional TxID of the SFN for ATSC terrestrial DTV system but also carriers the additional data bits on its polarity and the code phase.

The Analysis of TxID Signal's Effect to Legacy Receivers in ATSC DTV System (ATSC DTV 시스템에서 TxID 신호가 기존 수신기에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • When we implement the single frequency network (SFN) in ATSC terrestrial DTV system, there is an interference problem to DTV receivers due to the use of same frequency channel among transmitters and repeaters. To resolve this problem, it is recommended to adopt the transmitter identification signals in transmitting equipments. In this paper, we analyzed the influence suffered by legacy DTV receivers when the TxID signal is added to the DTV transmitting signals and the results were further verified by computer simulation, laboratory test and field test. The above tests show that if the TxID signal is added to the level of -30dB compared to the original DTV signal, the TOV(Threshold Of Visibility) increment in legacy receivers is about 0.17 dB. It means that we can insert and transmit the TxID signal in ATSC terrestrial DTV system without making the negative effect to the legacy DTV receivers.

  • In Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital television (DTV) systems, additional very low-rate data can be transmitted by modulating the amplitude and polarity of the transmitter identification (TxID) signal. Although the additional data transmission scheme offers reliable transmission and has a very large coverage area, it has a limitation on the data rate. In this paper, we propose a novel additional data transmission scheme based on the TxID sequences of the ATSC DTV system and Walsh modulation. The proposed scheme not only increases the data rate significantly, but also offers a virtually identical coverage area compared to a conventional scheme.

  • In a single frequency network (SFN) for Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital television (DTV) system, the interferences induced by the multiple transmitters and/or repeaters using the same frequency are inevitable. Since the presence of interferences results in performance degradation of the SFN, it is crucial to manipulate the interferences by adjusting the transmit power and timing of each transmitter and repeater. In the ATSC terrestrial DTV system, in order to facilitate the interference manipulation process, a transmitter identification (TxID) signal which is uniquely embedded in the signal to be transmitted from each transmitter and repeater is recommended. Even though the injection level of the TxID signal is much lower than the DTV signal, the TxID signal injection infects the DTV signal. Hence, the effect of the TxID signal on the DTV signal must be investigated before deployment. In this paper, the effect of the TxID signal on the performance of legacy DTV receivers under additive white Gaussian noise and multipath channel environments is investigated not only with computer simulation but also with laboratory and field tests. The test results show that the average threshold of visibility degradation of the legacy DTV receivers due to the TxID signal injection is less than 0.2 dB at the TxID injection level of -30 dB.

  • This paper is about frequency allocation of LTE Base Station(BS) in the spare band which is generated by DTV transition. In the case of frequency allocation of LTE BS in adjacent band with DTV channel 51 among the spare band, the guard bands that requires for no interference between LTE and DTV system were calculated. As a result, 5.5 MHz of guard band for LTE BS and 2 MHz of guard band for DTV receiver were suggested based on interference analysis between LTE BS and DTV BS, respectively.

  • In this paper, we proposed a TxID(Transmitter Identification) system using ZCD (Zero Correlation Duration) code as interference-cancelled spread codes for single frequency network of ATSC terrestrial DTV broadcasting. ZCD codes are simply implemented and have ZCD characteristics. Then, Proposal system can fundamentally solve interference problems caused by ICI(Inter Code Interference) and MPI(Multi-Path Interference) which happens in TxID system using spread coding method. Also, those can cancel truncated error which happens at watermarking for TxID since those can remove its period. In this paper, we identified the availability of TxID system applying interference-cancelled ZCD codes by analyzing DER (Detection Error Rate) which is simulated in various interference environments such as AWGN, ICI, and MPI.

  • ATSC 방식의 지상파 디지털 TV 방송에서는 단일 주파수 망 구성 시 송신기들과 중계기들이 단일 주파수를 사용함에 따라 수신기에서 간섭 문제가 발생한다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 ATSC 권고에서는 각 송신기 및 중계기에 RF Watermark 방식의 식별 (TxID: Transmitter Identification) 신호를 할당하여 송신 및 중계 신호에 부가하여 전송하도록 권고하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 DTV 신호에 부가되어 전송되는 RF Watermark 방식의 TxID 신호가 상용 DTV 수신기에 미치는 영향을 분산주파수망을 이용하여 실제 필드 테스트를 통해 살펴본다.
