  • Deflection estimation at engine room upper deck panel is performed for the actual ship structure. These deflection behaviours are basically investigated from not only the data based on the full series results of nonlinear analysis using Incremental Galerkin's Method but also actual deflection data measured from damaged ship under construction in dry dock. The effects of residual stress, initial deflection and static loading are also included. The computed estimation results of upper deck plate panel including theme effects are shown that upper deck platings of new ship expected less deflection magnitude than damaged ship.

  • The pipe cleaning process is a crucial step in the shipbuilding process of a shipyard. It involves removing foreign substances from the inside of the pipes before moving on to the stage of testing equipment after installing the pipes. If there are foreign substances inside the pipes and the equipment is tested, the foreign substances can enter the high-priced equipment and become a factor in the breakdown of pumps, gears, bearings, and other components. Especially in the case of pumps or hydraulic valves, even small foreign substances can lead to major accidents if they enter the equipment, and such equipment accidents can be a potential cause of major disasters, leading to accidents involving workers operating the equipment in the vicinity. Therefore, it is a process that shipyard customers, who are shipowners, also focus on and manage very intensively. To solve these problems, this study developed a system that can increase the cleaning effect of the cleaning fluid inside the pipes by increasing the flow of the cleaning fluid inside the pipes in the existing pipe cleaning method.

  • The aim of this study is to select the import and export goods which contribute to activate the operation of port hinterland. The spatial ranges of this study are A-am 1 logistics complex and 4dock hinterland. The Factor Analysis(FA) and Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) are used as the methodologies. Eleven low evaluation factors including 'creation of traffic cargo volume' are selected by precedent studies and four high evaluation factors including 'effective management' are grouped through factor analysis. As the result of priority among low evaluation factors through AHP, 'creation of traffic cargo volume' is the most important factor. Moreover using the AHP, 'electronic component' is the most important item which activate the Port of Incheon and its hinterland. So cargos which have the potential to create traffic cargo volume such as 'electronic component' must be managed strategically and this study can be used as important index when people concerned attract items.

  • The Seosan-Daesan Port is a representative trade port in Chungnam, and has the sixth largest total cargo throughput and the third largest oil cargo throughput in Korea. However, research on this port's development is lacking relative to that for Busan Port, Incheon Port, and Gwangyang Port, and no study exists that suggests the direction of the development strategy for Seosan-Daesan Port. This study discusses the future role of Seosan-Daesan Port in preparation for a rapidly changing future and the development strategy that should be established. Using the AHP, a development strategy is provided for Seosan-Daesan Port from short/mid-term and long-term viewpoints for three aspects: operation activation, infrastructure construction, and policy support. Operation activation is chosen as the most significant factor from a short/mid-term viewpoint, whereas infrastructure construction is recognized as important from a long-term viewpoint. Specifically, from a short/mid-term viewpoint, sustainable container cargo attraction, multipurpose dock construction, management pier construction, and opening of international passenger ferry lines are important factors while from the long-term viewpoint, hinterland construction, petrochemical industry cluster construction, automobile industry cluster construction, and management improvement system are important. Establishing action plans for each strategy and a cooperative network for sharing goals and strengthening cooperation is necessary.

  • The Port logistics is a pivotal industry in strengthening competitiveness for countries and companies and plays an important role in accounting for the majority of Korea's import and export volume, so its importance among Korea's industries is truly enormous. The port, which plays such an important role, is simultaneously unloaded, transferred into the dock, and stored, and it can be said that it is composed of a very complex flow. In particular, port unloading is an environment in which port unloading workers cannot escape the risk of disasters as large cargoes and cranes for container transport move, and numerous disasters are hidden and lead to serious disasters. Through literature studies on the Serious Accident Penalty Act, this study investigated how the Serious Accident Penalty Act affected port unloading workers and whether there was a change in satisfaction with safety education according to the enforcement of the Serious Accident Penalty Act. Through this study, it was found that port unloading workers were more aware of safety than managers in cognitive, attitude, and experience factors. Since the port unloading manager is not put into the unloading work, the perception of safety was analyzed to be lower than that of workers. Since managers should educate workers on safe work and be alert to safety, it seems that port unloading managers will also need to change their perception of safety. The Act on the Punishment of Severe Disasters took effect on January 27, 22, and in the early stages of the enforcement of the law, many confusing and ambiguous parts are found for those in charge of performing practical tasks on the front line until the law is settled. It seems necessary to revise the Act on the Punishment of Severe Disasters for the purpose of clear standards for the law and no safety accidents in the field to prevent confusion in work. In addition, in order to derive more meaningful research results in the future, it is expected that research on the perception of disasters by workers and managers will be continuously needed by deepening literature research to find various factors and using investigation methods such as interviews.

  • A profiling monitoring system has been developed to monitor the water quality variations according to each water depth and applied for a test-bed. The key parameters were derived to disclose the aquatic ecology and environment of river systems, and the real-time monitoring techniques to profile the variations of each parameter were verified. Monitoring parameters were configured to include water quality, hydrodynamic, and weather conditions. Considering the water depth of the 4 major rivers in Korea, a profiling monitoring system with 1.0 m water depth interval for each monitoring has been established. To understand the real-time variation properties in the Han river, the monitoring system has been installed and operated at the YangHwa-Dock as a test-bed. Based on the results of the detailed analyses on the spring season, as the characteristic diurnal and water-depth-related variations for water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), and chlorophyll-a were observed, it could be concluded that the real-time water-depth profiling monitoring system is a very effective tool for the proper management of river environment.

  • Five year term monitoring investigating variation of allochthonous originated gravels are has been conducted in the beach gravel deposit of the Island Dokdo natural reserve which takes purity and uniqueness with enormous attention though a number of areas. The beach gravel deposits near the dock of the Dongdo and near the accommodation facility of the Seodo comprise various types of gravels including basalt, trachyte, and tuff from the Dokdo itself, and granite, rhyolite, gneiss, quartzite, marble, and concrete from elsewhere. The types of the allochthonous gravels on the basis of the study in 2011 and in 2016 shows no difference, so is the ranking of abundance of the allochthonous gravels; granite-concrete-gneiss in turn on the Dongdo, concrete-gneiss-granite in turn on the Seodo. Nevertheless, the relative ratio of the allochthonous gravel area against the total area is decreased. While it is suspected that the disintegrated facility and the influx of material for construction are the main 2 reasons for the contamination by allochthonous gravel, diminished total contamination ratio indicate that supervising allochthonous material has been improved; at least not worse during the 5 years. On the other hand, it is inferred that gradual influence of rockfall also has been made the gravel beach changed. Therefore, consistent rockfall investigation must be inquired.

  • This study examined the occurring pattern of potential risky species and the related abiotic factors for port-specific environmental management considering the control of ballast water-induced foreign species at Incheon seaport. From a total of 62 species observed during the study, 13 red-tide and 7 toxic phytoplankton, normally occurring species in Korean waters, occurred from the seasonal investigation at the inner and outer sites of the Incheon seaport from 2007 to 2009. The number of potential risky phytoplankton was relatively high at the outer site of the port during summer and winter. Red-tide species, such as Skeletonema spp., Thalassiosira nordenskioldii, and Paralia sulcata, dominated the total standing crops at the inner site (avg. 72.4%) and outer site (avg. 77.6%) in spring and summer, being positively correlated with the concentrations of total suspended solids (TSS) and pH (p<0.05). In summer, the red-tide species (Skeletonema spp.) and toxic species (Alexandrium catenella, A. tamarense, Dinophysis acuminata and Pseudo-nitzschia spp.) co-dominated (avg. 74.2%) at the inner site, while Skeletonema spp. and P. sulcata predominated (avg. 67.2%) at the outer site. During the study periods, the toxic species were significantly and positively correlated with the chemical oxygen demand (COD), dissolved inorganic nitrogen, silicate and phosphate (p < 0.05). The chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration of phytoplankton at the outer site ranged from 1.49 to $5.46{\mu}g/L$ on average, which was 3-5 times higher than that at the inner site in spring, summer and autumn, whereas there was no difference in the concentration between inner (avg. $0.94{\mu}g/L$) and outer (avg. $0.95{\mu}g/L$) sites in winter. In summary, diverse red-tide species dominated and a relatively high chl-a concentration existed at the outer site, whereas a relatively high number of toxic species and low chl-a concentration was observed at the inner site in summer. The potential risky species can outbreak in association with the concentration of nutrients, COD and TSS, suggesting that distinctive management of potential risky species is needed considering the environmental characteristics of Incheon seaport.
