  • 방송과 통신의 융합, 방송서비스의 다양화와 더불어 방송의 디지털화는 기존의 아날로그 방식에 비해 고화질 및 고음질의 방송 서비스 제공 및 타 매체와의 호환성 그리고 다양한 부가 서비스의 제공 등에 있어서 많은 이전을 제공할 수 있다. 또한, 디지털방송 방식은 기존 아날로그 방식의 이동수신 문제점을 해결하고자 디지털 오디오 방송(DAB: Digital Audio Broadcasting)에 멀티미디어 서비스를 .제공하는 디지털 멀티미디어 방송(DMB: Digital Multimedia Broadcasting)을 제안하였다. 지상파 DMB 방송은 유럽의 Eureka-147 방식의 DAB를 기반으로 하며 디지털 라디오방송과 함께 오디오 외에도 다양한 멀티미디어를 전송하고, 콘텐츠에 대화형 기능을 포함하는 서비스 형태를 목표로 하고 있다. 현재 지상파 DMB 서비스에서는 기본적인 AV 서비스를 위해 비디오는 AVC, 오디오는 BSAC에 대해 규정하고 있다. 또한 AV 규격 외에 대화형 서비스를 제공하기 위한 보조 데이터로서 장면기술 데이터와 그래픽 데이터를 지원하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 지상파 DMB를 이용한 대화형 서비스를 제공하기 위해 요구되는 초기 객체 정보, 객체 정보, 장면 구성 정보를 바이너리 형태로 생성해 주는 MPEG-4 바이너리 컨버터를 설계하고 구현하였다.

  • 깊이 영상 기반 렌더링(DIBR) 방법은 제한된 대역폭을 가진 지상파 DMB(T-DMB)환경에서의 3 차원 서비스를 위한 방법으로 연구되고 있다. T-DMB 환경에서의 DIBR 기반의 3 차원 서비스는 기준 영상과 깊이 영상을 전송 받아 가상의 좌/우 시점 영상을 생성한다. 가상의 좌/우 시점 영상을 생성하기 위해서는 콘텐츠와 디스플레이 환경에 따른 파라미터 값이 주어져야 한다. 하지만 많은 연구에서 표준화된 파라미터 값을 제시하지 않음으로써 렌더링의 기준이 모호해지고, 임의로 정해진 파라미터 값에 의해 DIBR 결과가 크게 달라진다. 또한 콘텐츠에 따른 파라미터 값을 임의로 설정하게 되면 추가적인 정보를 전송해야 하는 문제점이 발생한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 다양한 콘텐츠에 적용 가능하면서도 T-DMB 환경에 적합하도록 계산량을 줄일 수 있는 표준화된 파라미터 설정 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

A Study on Real-time Tracking Method of Horizontal Face Position for Optimal 3D T-DMB Content Service (지상파 DMB 단말에서의 3D 컨텐츠 최적 서비스를 위한 경계 정보 기반 실시간 얼굴 수평 위치 추적 방법에 관한 연구)

  • An embedded mobile device mostly has lower computation power than a general purpose computer because of its relatively lower system specifications. Consequently, conventional face tracking and face detection methods, requiring complex algorithms for higher recognition rates, are unsuitable in a mobile environment aiming for real time detection. On the other hand, by applying a real-time tracking and detecting algorithm, we would be able to provide a two-way interactive multimedia service between an user and a mobile device thus providing a far better quality of service in comparison to a one-way service. Therefore it is necessary to develop a real-time face and eye tracking technique optimized to a mobile environment. For this reason, in this paper, we proposes a method of tracking horizontal face position of a user on a T-DMB device for enhancing the quality of 3D DMB content. The proposed method uses the orientation of edges to estimate the left and right boundary of the face, and by the color edge information, the horizontal position and size of face is determined finally to decide the horizontal face. The sobel gradient vector is projected vertically and candidates of face boundaries are selected, and we proposed a smoothing method and a peak-detection method for the precise decision. Because general face detection algorithms use multi-scale feature vectors, the detection time is too long on a mobile environment. However the proposed algorithm which uses the single-scale detection method can detect the face more faster than conventional face detection methods.

  • This letter proposes a conditional access system (CAS) suitable for use in terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB), based on an effective multiplexing method to provide encrypted T-DMB services. Specifically, the proposed multiplexing method for a CAS is designed to reduce the additional bit rate while assuring easy access to the designated encrypted services. Finally, the performance of the implemented CAS is confirmed through implementation and a broadcasting experiment under various service environments.

  • 최근 기존의 지상파 DMB와 역호환성을 유지하면서 전송속도를 증대시켜, 비디오 서비스의 품질을 증대시키거나, 다른 서비스들을 추가로 제공할 수 있는 새로운 이동멀티미디어 방송을 위한 전송기술이 개발되었으며, '고전송율 지상파 디지털멀티미디어방송(AT-DMB)' 이라 명명되었다. 현재 고전송율 지상파 디지털멀티미디어방송의 상용화 서비스를 위한 필트 테스트가 진행 중이며, 이를 이용한 신규서비스 개발이 추진되고 있다. 본 논문은 고전송율 지상파 디지털멀티미디어방송 시스템을 이용하여 제공할 수 있는 모바일 멀티미디어 서비스들을 제안한다. 이를 위해 고전송율 지상파 디지털멀티미디어방송의 전송 특성을 분석하였으며, 이를 이용해 제공될 수 있는 모바일 멀티미디어 서비스 모델들을 포함한다.

Aggregated Encoder Control Exploiting Interlayer Statistical Characteristics for Advanced Terrestrial-DMB (지상파 DMB 고도화망에서 계층간 통계적 특성을 이용한 통합 부호기 제어)

  • The SVC (Scalable Video Coding) scheme can be effectively used for reducing the redundancy and for improving the coding efficiency but, it requires very high computational complexities. In order to accelerate the successful standardization and commercialization of the Advanced Terrestrial-DMB service, it is necessary to overcome this problem. For this aim, in this paper, we propose an efficient aggregated encoder control algorithm, which shows better performances than the conventional control scheme. Computer simulation result shows that the proposed scheme performs about up to 0.3dB better than those of the conventional scheme. Additionally, based on this control scheme, we propose a fast mode decision method by constraining the redundant coding modes based on the statistical properties of the quantization parameter in the spatial scalable encoder. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed control schemes reduce the heavy computational burden up to 12% compared to the conventional scheme, while keeping the objective visual qualify very high.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze DMB(digital multimedia broadcasting) technologies of transmitting GIS-based traffic information for developing DMB systems compared with FM DARC(FM data radio channel). R&D and standardizations for transmitting GIS-based traffic information have been rapidly changed, as radical developments in ITS(intelligent transportation systems), telemaics, and communication methods such as ubiquitous and convergences of broadcasting and communications. Each communication method employs different GIS format, protocol, and standardizations, i.e., GML(geography markup language) and TPEG(transport protocol experts group). This paper presents technical methods and trends of transmitting traffic information using broadcasting along with FM DARC, in general, and DMB, in particular.

  • This paper attempts to conceptually examine the potential of IPTV(Internet Protocol Television). First, this paper reviews the concept of a bridging telecommunication service and a gap-filling telecommunications service. Second, the current status of various emerging telecommunications services including mobile WiMax, called WiBro, and both satellite and terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting service, called DMB are comprehensively analyzed. Based on those analysis, this paper analyzes whether IPTV is regared as a bridging telecommunications service or a gap-filling telecommunications service and examine the potential growth possibility of IPTV. Finally, the suggestions for policy makers are discussed.

  • The convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication technologies is a key issue of the ubiquitous networks. So this paper offers the convergence of integrated telecommunication networks and broadcasting system, Advanced Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (AT-DMB), and the interconnection of them via the Media Independent Information Server/Service (MIIS). Then, this paper proposes the fast wakeup and connection mechanism with concepts for improving QoS and energy efficiency simultaneously. In the proposed convergence network, our mechanism places the key on the minimization of both the incoming service delay destined to a turned-off interface by using the broadcasting network and the additional energy consumption. This paper further evaluates the performance of proposed mechanism through the numerical and experimental analysis and has confirmed the decrease of both service delay and energy consumption.

  • Recently, the transition from conventional analog broadcasting to digital broadcasting has been proceeding as a result of the advance in digital multimedia broadcasting technique. In radio broadcasting, Eureka-147 DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting) was decided as the standard system of digital radio broadcasting in Korea. In addition to CD quality audio, a variety of data services and excellent performance in mobile reception can be served by DAB, and DAB was evolved into DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) in Korea for the purpose of emphasizing moving picture multimedia service by DAB. In case of digital broadcasting, it is absolutely essential to measure the BER(Bit Error Rate) in the received signal in order to evaluate the coverage obtained by a transmitter and the quality of the received signal. In this paper, we propose efficient subchannel data structure and BER measurement algorithm. and then verify it by laboratory experiments. With a proposed method, the synchronization for BER measurement is easily obtained and especially the exact results can be obtained by classifying the lost bits which are included in the reception-failed CIFs(Common Interleaved Frame) into errors. This makes the proposed BER measurement system especially appropriate to DMB in which the frequent changes in channel status caused by mobile reception environment exist.
