  • It is very important to forecast demand and determine the optimal procurement quantities of spare parts. The Army has been forecasting demand not with actual usage of spare parts but with request quantities. However, the Army could not purchase all of forecasted demand quantities due to budget limit. Thus, the procurement quantities depend on the item managers' intuition and their meetings. The system currently used contains many problems. This study suggests a new determination procedure; 1) forecasting demand method based on actual usage, 2) determining procurement method through LP model with budge and other constraints. The newly determined quantities of spare parts is verified in the simulation model, that represents the real operational and maintenance situation to measure the operational availability. The result shows that the new forecasting method with actual usage improves the operational availability. Also, the procurement determination with LP improves the operational availability as well.

  • A screening study was performed in order to resolve the flow, combustion and emission characteristics of the gas furmace with co-axial diffusion flane burner. A control-valume based finite-difference method with the power-law scheme was employed for discretization. Numerical procedure for the differential equation was used by SIMPLEST to enclosute rapid converge. A k-.varepsilon. model was incorporated for the closure of turbulence. The mass fraction and mixture fraction were calculated by cinserved scalar method. An equilibrium analysis was employed to determine the concentration of radicals in the product stream and conserbation equations were them solved for N amd NO by Zelovich reaction scheme. The method was exercised in a simple one-dimensional case first, to determine the effects of air ratio, temperature and residence time on NO formation and applied to a furnace with co-axial diffusion flame burner.

  • Air transport demand is on a sharp rise due to growth in the aviation market. To prepare for this rapidly growing demand for aviation, airport operators are interested in the processing airport capacity. Airport throughput is determined to be the smallest of the facility capacities that make up the airport, but it is customary to determine the cost and time consuming runway capacity as airport capacity. Previous studies have shown that while recent studies have been conducted on airport capacity, there is little research on the criteria for determining capacity. In this study, we would like to determine the extent to which airport capacity is affected by the airport's operating hours and the resulting delays.

  • Wide range frequency pulses occur in a car crash test. Until now, low frequency under 400Hz has been used to determine an airbag deployment criteria. Also, FIS (Front Impact Sensor) has been used to detect the crash pulse in early stage. Nowadays, technology to determine an airbag delpoyment criteria by using a high frequency crash pulse without FIS is being focused on. In this paper, the signal transmissibility of high frequency pulse for two different cars was studied. Also, signal transfer test of high frequency pulse was done by using a high speed ball impact. Signal runtime of the frontal impact is compared with that of the side impact. The signal transmissibility difference due to the car structure difference was discussed and structure change for improving the signal transmissibility was proposed.

  • The corn is one of the most important forage crop in Korea. The harvest time for silage affects dry matter (DM) yield and silage quality. This study was carried out to determine the effect of harvest time on the DM yield and nutritive value of corn forage at the Experimental Livestock Farm, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University, Suweon in 1991. Forage DM yield and DM content of corn forage significantly increased mainly due to increase of ear. And also the ear to total DM ratio increased from 30% to 55% as the harvest was delayed. Chemical composition of the corn forage was improved by reduction in crude fihr, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber as the harvest was delayed. This results indicated that the harvest time of corn forage plays an important role to determine DM yield and DM contents for silage materials.

  • This study presents techniques for the estimation of parameters in flood routing method of natural channel.. The Muskingum routing method is the most widely used method of hydrologic stream channel routing. In this paper, Genetic Algorithm and Fletcher-Powell method is applied to determine parameters(K and x) of the Muskingum routing method. The results of the approach shows that Genetic Algorithm method can be one of methods to determine parameters of the Muskingum routing method. Based on the analysis for estimated parameters and the comparison with the results from observed data, the applicability of Genetic Algorithm is verified.

  • This study developed a variable demand traffic assignment model by stable dynamics. Stable dynamics, suggested by Nesterov and do Palma[19], is a new model which describes and provides a stable state of congestion in urban transportation networks. In comparison with the user equilibrium model, which is based on the arc travel time function in analyzing transportation networks, stable dynamics requires few parameters and is coincident with intuitions and observations on congestion. It is therefore expected to be a useful analysis tool for transportation planners. In this study, we generalize the stable dynamics into the model with variable demands. We suggest a three stage optimization model. In the first stage, we introduce critical travel times and dummy links and determine variable demands and link flows by applying an optimization problem to an extended network with the dummy links. Then we determine link travel times and path flows in the following stages. We present a numerical example of the application of the model to a given network.

  • This study presents a rapid method for determining the steady state migration coefficient of concrete by measuring the electric current. This study determines the steady state chloride migration coefficient using the accelerated chloride migration test (ACMT). There are two stages to obtain the chloride migration coefficient. The first stage, the steady-state condition was obtained from the initial electric current at the beginning of ACMT. The second stage, the average electrical current in the steady state condition was used to determine the steady state chloride migration coefficient. The chloride migration coefficient can be determined from the average steady state current to avoid sampling and analyzing chlorides during the ACMT.

  • In the experiment of cholesterols and steroidal compounds. gas chromatography has been widely used to determine the compounds. Without the facility, we could determine the amount of 17-ketosteroids in the use of t. 1. c technique. In the muicrobial conversion of cholesterol to 17-ketsoteroids, $\alpha,$ $\alpha'-dipyridyl$ which might be a inhibitor of $9\alpha-hydroxylase$ of steroid skeleton was added to microbial culture broth. The inhibitor contaminated due to its solubility in organic solvents and hindered the determination of 17-ketost eroids on t.1. c in all the process of the experiment. we successfully determined the 17-ketosteroids by the use of Ag$^{+}$ band on t. 1. c. plate.e.

  • This work was intended to determine the optimum values of the cab suspension parameters by a simulation method in order to minimize the seat accelerations of agricultural tractors in the frequencies lower than 50Hz. A dynamic model of cab motions was developed and verified using a tractor excited over half-sine bumps on a concrete test road. A simulation program based on the model was also developed. A method was proposed to determine the optimum values of the suspension parameters. It was found that the natural frequencies of the cab and seat suspensions must be apart as far as possible until the sum of seat and cab accelerations is minimized, which also reduces the seat accelerations maximally.
