This paper presents a novel switching voltage model and an offset-based pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme for multilevel inverters with unbalanced DC sources. The switching voltage model under a DC voltage imbalance will be formulated in general form for multilevel neutral-point-clamped topologies. Analysis of the reference switching voltages from active and non-active switching voltage components in abc coordinates can enable voltage implementation for an unbalanced DC-source condition. Offset voltage is introduced as an indispensable variable in the switching voltage model for multilevel voltage-source inverters. The PWM performance is controlled through the design of two offset components in a subsequence. One main offset may refer to the common mode voltage, and the other offset restricts its effect on the quality of PWM control in related DC levels. The PWM quality can be improved as the switching loss is reduced in a discontinuous PWM mode by setting the local offset, which is related to the load currents. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified by experimental results.

A self oscillation DC/DC converter which has a very desirable characteristics of the high input-output voltage conversion ratio for high voltage DC power supply applications is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter is composed of one power switch, one inductor, several capacitors and diodes. Compared with conventional high-voltage DC/DC converters, it performs the high- voltage power conversion using the inductor instead of the bulky step-up transformer. Therefore, it can reduce the size of magnetic device and save the cost. Moreover, since it needs no control IC by using self oscillation circuit and has lower voltage stress on output diodes, it features a lower cost, simpler structure and more improved performance. Finally, a comparative analysis and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed converter.

Recently, we use a static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) with cascaded H-bride topologies, because it is easy to increase capacity and to reduce total harmonic distortion(THD). When we use equipment for reactive power compensation, dc-link voltage unbalances occur from several reasons although loads are balanced. In the past, switching pattern change of single phase inverter and reference voltage magnitude change of inverter equipped with power sensor have been used for dc-link voltage balance. But previous methods are more complicated and expensive because of additional component costs. Therefore, this paper explains reasons of dc-link voltage unbalance and proposes solution. This solution is complex method that is composed of reference voltage magnitude change of inverter without additional hardware and shifted phase angle of inverter reference voltages change. It proves possibility through 1000[KVA] system simulation.

In this paper, a 1.5V 256kb eFlash memory IP with low area DC-DC converter is designed for battery application. Therefore, in this paper, 5V NMOS precharging transistor is used instead of cross-coupled 5V NMOS transistor, which is a circuit that precharges the voltage of the pumping node to VIN voltage in the unit charge pump circuit for the design of a low-area DC-DC converter. A 5V cross-coupled PMOS transistor is used as a transistor that transfers the boosted voltage to the VOUT node. In addition, the gate node of the 5V NMOS precharging transistor is made to swing between VIN voltage and VIN+VDD voltage using a boost-clock generator. Furthermore, to swing the clock signal, which is one node of the pumping capacitor, to full VDD during a small ring oscillation period in the multi-stage charge pump circuit, a local inverter is added to each unit charge pump circuit. And when exiting from erase mode and program mode and staying at stand-by state, HV NMOS transistor is used to precharge to VDD voltage instead of using a circuit that precharges the boosted voltage to VDD voltage. Since the proposed circuit is applied to the DC-DC converter circuit, the layout area of the 256kb eFLASH memory IP is reduced by about 6.5% compared to the case of using the conventional DC-DC converter circuit.

Recently, a fuel cell with low voltage and high current output characteristics is remarkable for new generation system. It needs both a DC-DC step-up converter and DC-AC inverter to be used in fuel cell generation system. Therefor, this paper, consists of an isolated DC-DC converter to boost the fuel cell voltage $380[V_{DC}]$ and a PWM inverter with LC filter to convent the DC voltage to single-phase $220[V_{AC}]$. Expressly, a tapped inductor filter with freewheeling diode is newly implemented in the output filter of the proposed high frequency isolated ZVZCS PWM DC-DC converter to suppress circulating current under the wide output voltage regulation range, thus to eliminate the switching and transformer turn-on/off over-short voltage or transient phenomena. Besides the efficiency of 93-97[%]is obtained over the wide output voltage regulation ranges and load variations.

In this paper, a novel circuit topology of a three-winding coupling inductor-assisting a high-frequency PWM boost chopper type DC-DC power converter with a high boost voltage conversion ratio and low switch voltage stress is proposed for the new energy interfaced DC power conditioner in solar photovoltaic and fuel cell generation systems. The operating principle in a steady state is described by using its equivalent circuits under the practical condition of energy processing of a lossless capacitive snubber. The newly-proposed power MOSFET boost chopper type DC-DC power converter with the three-winding coupled inductor type transformer and a single lossless capacitor snubber is built and tested for an output power of 500W. Utilizing the lower voltage and internal resistance power MOSFET switch in the proposed PWM boost chopper type DC-DC power converter can reduce the conduction losses of the active power switch compared to the conventional model. Therefore, the total actual power conversion efficiency under a condition of the nominal rated output power is estimated to be 81.1 %, which is 3.7% higher than the conventional PWM boost chopper DC power conversion circuit topology.
DC distribution has several differences compared to AC distribution. DC distribution has a higher efficiency than AC distribution when distributing electricity at the same voltage level. Accordingly, power can be transferred further with low-voltage DC. In addition, power flow in a DC grid system is produced by only a voltage difference in magnitude. Owing to these differences, operation of a DC grid system significantly differs from that of an AC system. In this paper, the power flow problem in a bipolar-type DC grid with unbalanced load conditions is organized and solved. Control strategy of energy storage system on a slow time scale with power references obtained by solving an optimization problem regarding the DC grid is then proposed. The proposed strategy is verified with computer simulations.
This paper presents a high-efficiency power conditioning system (PCS) for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) modules. The proposed PCS consists of a step-up DC-DC converter and a single-phase DC-AC inverter for the grid-connected PV modules. A soft-switching step-up DC-DC converter is proposed to generate a high DC-link voltage from the low PV module voltage with a high-efficiency. A DC-link voltage controller is presented for constant DC-link voltage regulation. A half-bridge inverter is used for the single-phase DC-AC inverter for grid connection. A grid current controller is suggested to supply PV electrical power to the power grid with a unity power factor. Experimental results are obtained from a 180 W grid-connected PV module system using the proposed PCS. The proposed PCS achieves a high power efficiency of 93.0 % with an unity power factor for a 60 Hz / 120 Vrms AC power grid.
Input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) connected DC-DC converters enable low voltage rating switches to be used in high voltage input applications. In this paper, a DSP is adopted to generate digital phase-shifted PWM signals and to fulfill the closed-loop control function for ISOP connected two full-bridge DC-DC converters. Moreover, a stable output current sharing control strategy is proposed for the system, with which equal sharing of the input voltage and the load current can be achieved without any input voltage control loops. Based on small signal analysis with the state space average method, a loop gain design with the proposed scheme is made. Compared with the conventional IVS scheme, the proposed strategy leads to simplification of the output voltage regulator design and better static and dynamic responses. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by the simulation and experimental results of an ISOP system made up of two full-bridge DC-DC converters.
