Optimization of the DC and RF characteristics in AlGaN/GaN HEMT (AlGaN/GaN HEMT 의 DC 및 RF 특성 최적화)

  • In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs to optimize their DC and RF characteristics by using a two-dimensional device simulator. First, we analyzed the variation of the DC characteristics with respect to the variation of 2DEG concentrations when varying the Al mole fraction and the thickness of the AlGaN layer. Then, we examined the variation of the RF characteristics by varying the size and the location of the gate, source and drain electrodes. When the Al mole fraction increased from 0.2 to 0.45, both the transconductance and I-V characteristics increased. On the other hand, the I-V characteristics were improved but transconductance was decreased as the thickness of the AlGaN layer increased from 10nm to 50nm. In the RF characteristics, the gate length was found to be the most influential parameter, and the RF characteristics were improved when the gate length was shorten.

  • This paper analysed basic operation in Zero-voltages-switching quasi-resonant buck converter and considered steady state characteristics. Especially, it is confirmed that converter operating at maximum 1MHz switching frequency in load characteristics. In this paper, a novel slope method is proposed and implemented in regulation characteristics analysis. It is proved that experimenental results coincide with theory results.

  • This paper presents the experimental results on the 3-electrode DC-PDP which has a common electrode to improve the PDP life cycle. The measured DC characteristic proves the effectiveness of common electrode absorbing about half of discharge currents. The waveforms for pulse memory operation of3-electrode PDP without crosstalk could also be determined from the I-V characteristics. The pulse memory drives of 8*8 cell array show the frequency response fo memory margin and the luminance efficiency of 3-electrode PDP are quite different from genrally known characteristics of 2-electrode DC-PDP.

  • An HTS DC power cable is expected to perfectly eliminate transmission loss caused by resistance. However, when the HTS DC power cable is applied to the power system, loss of the HTS DC power cable is generated due to harmonics caused by HVDC converter. We designed and analyzed the HTS DC power cable with a critical current of 1 kA to investigate the loss characteristics using a finite element method package. In this paper, the loss characteristics caused by harmonics in the HTS DC power cable were analyzed according to order and magnitude of harmonics. Based on the analysis results, the critical current of HTS DC power cable considered with the rated current could be determined to minimize the capacity of cooling system for the design the HTS DC power cable.

  • The proposed dual-output DC-DC converter that bases on flyback converter can obtain two output voltage with non-isolated main-output and isolated sub-output at the same time using single-winding high frequency transformer. It can solve problems in multi-winding converter that use one main-switch, and also control quality of isolated sub-output voltage can be improved by additional sub-switch to the second. For analysis and design of the proposed converter system, converters are classified as operation mode from switching state and are become modeling by applying state space averaging method. Steady-state characteristics and dynamic characteristics are analyzed by DC component and perturbation component from state space averaging model. From experiment converter, validity of analysis and design for the propose converter system is confirm.

In this paper, DC arc detection device is designed for the display of DC arc fault current which is occurred in the local electric network with DC Power. This DC arc is one of the main causes of electric fire. Arc fault in electrical network has the characteristics of low current, high impedance and low frequency. DC Arc current detection device is designed for the display of arc fault current which has the modified arc characteristics.

  • The current-fed DC-DC converter, which is known as the most stable DC-DC converter, has a two-winding reactor in series with the input. In this paper a new double-output DC-DC converter circuit, in which the 2nd winding of the reactor is creating the 2nd output, while the 2nd winding is feeding the energy to the input in the current-fed converter, is propose. The steady state characteristics of the new circuit are clarified and it is found that the maximum value exists in the 2nd output. Furthermore, regulation characteristic is analysed by 'Slope method' and the result shows good agreement with experimental value. The 2nd output voltage regulation is performed by using regulation IC. As a result, we have achieved good regulation characteristics.

  • In space qualified DC-DC converters, optimization of the following electrical characteristics is of greater interest in comparison with other specifications; power loss/efficiency, output voltage ripple and volume/weight. The main goal of this paper is to present an appropriate solution for optimizing the above mentioned characteristics. For this purpose, a comprehensive power loss model of a DC-DC converter is fully developed. Proper models are also demonstrated for assessment of the output voltage ripple and the utilized transformer volume as the bulkiest component in a DC-DC converter. In order to provide a test bed for evaluation of the proposed models, a 50W push-pull DC-DC converter is designed and implemented. Finally, a novel cost function with three assigned weight functions is proposed in order to have a trade-off among the power loss, the output voltage ripple and the utilized transformer volume of the converter. The cost function is optimized for applications in which volume has the highest priority in comparison with power loss and ripple. The optimization results show that the transformer volume can be decreased by up to 51% and this result is verified by experimental results. The developed models and algorithms in this paper can be used for other DC-DC converter topologies with some minor modifications.

  • Although the structure of the brushless DC motor is similar to the one of the permanent magnet synchronous motor, its operating characteristics are the same as those of the permanent magnet DC motor. This is the reason that the commutators and brushes in the permanent magnet DC motor can be replaced by the power semiconductor devices and rotor position sensors for the brushless DC motor. In this paper, a current control method is presented to make a sinusoidal current waveform for constant torque generation and the operating characteristics of the brushless DC motor using the resolver as the rotor position sensor is also presented and experimented.
