Sway Added Mass of a Rectangular Cylinder in a Restricted Water

  • In this paper, the sway added mass of a rectangular cylinder in a restricted water is considered by applying Hamilton's principle as the frequency tends to zero. The present method is an extension of Isshiki's method proposed in 1978. In the present method, it is assumed that the fluid velocity distribution in each subdomain of the fluid can be represented by higher order polynomials while Isshiki assumed linear velocity distribution. The fluid flow is assumed as a rotational motion in the present analysis. However, the results obtained from the present method show good agreement with Bai's numerical results for the case of large clearances between a canal wall and a cylinder. From Kelvin's minimum energy theorem, we can see that the value of sway added mass obtained from the present method approaches the upper bound. The approximate formula obtained in the present study takes a simple form which consists of the dimensions of the canal and the cylinder. The present formulae are derived for the cases of a rectangular cylinder swaying at the center of a narrow or wide canal relative to a cylinder, at off-center location in a canal, and in the restricted water with a single wall. From the results of numerical calculation, it is concluded that the sway added mass in restricted waters is more affected by water depth than clearance between a wall and a cylinder.

  • The vortex particle method, which includes viscous effects, consists of diffusion of boundary vorticity and creation of the vortex particles, convection, particle strength exchange, and particle redistribution. Accuracy of the boundary element method is very important since it creates the particles around the body at every time step. A boundary element method based on source panel was investigated as part of computation of unsteady separated flows by rising the vortex particle method. The potential flows were computed around a circular cylinder and a square cylinder. The results around the circular cylinder were compared with the exact solution, and the distribution of vorticity, in particular near the sharp comers of the square cylinder, is scrutinized for different number of panels.

공급압력 변화에 의한 공기압 실린더 구동장치의 소비에너지 변화량 추정 방법 (A Method of Estimation of Energy Consumption according to a Supply Pressure for Pneumatic Cylinder Driving Apparatus)

  • Pneumatic cylinder meter-out driving apparatus is used widely because it is clean, lightweight, and can be easily serviced. In this study an estimation method of energy consumption for pneumatic cylinder meter-out driving apparatus is proposed. The proposed method is derived from state equation and energy equation of air, and, the equation of motion of a moving part of a pneumatic cylinder reflecting the characteristics of the meter-out driving. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by simulation study and it demonstrates that the proposed method can evaluate the energy consumption quickly and easily when the parameters of the driving apparatus are changed.

청·장년층의 조절력에 관한 고찰 (A Study for Young and Middle Age People of Accommodation)

  • 19세에서 40세까지의 청 장년층 242안(121명)을 대상으로 Spherical Add 법과 Cross cylinder lens법을 이용하여 조절력 검사를 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. Spherical Add법을 사용하여 조절력을 측정한 결과 20대의 조절력의 범위는 9~13Diopter로 나타났고, 30대의 조절력의 범위는 6~8.5Diopter로 나타났다. 20대는 왕성한 조절력을 지니고 있음을 알 수 있었고, 30대 이상은 조절력이 25세 이전과 비교해서 감소함을 알 수 있었다. Cross cylinder lens법을 이용하여 조절력을 측정한 결과 20대의 평균조절력의 범위는 6.13~10.13Diopter, 30대의 평균조력의 범위는 5.75~8.75Diopter, 40대의 평균조절력의 범위는 4.38~7.25Diopter로 나타난다. 즉 조절력은 나이가 많아짐에 따라 감소함을 알 수 있었고 남녀 모두 cross cylinder lens의 붉은점을 수평방향으로 위치시킬 때의 조절력이 cross cylinder lens의 붉은점을 수직방향으로 위치시킬 때의 조절력보다 큰 것으로 나타났다. Spherical Add법과 Cross cylinder lens 법에 의해 측정한 조절력의 분포를 살펴보면 대부분 S.A 법을 이용하여 측정한 조절력이 Cr.c 법을 이용하여 측정한 조절력보다 큰 것으로 나타났다.

  • Stress analysis of tapered cylinder of reactor vessels is investigated by means of the intersection method. The tapered cylinder is approximated into three models-average cylinder, conical frustum, and ring. The results are compared with those of the finite element method program and an experiment. In this paper, the following results are obtained: (1) the best aproximation has been obtained by the ring model analysis: (2) the intersection analysis of the tapered cylinder by the ring model shows a sufficient accuracy for the stress analysis of reactor vessels.

  • A comparison is made of the heat loss from a hollow cylinder, computed using an one-dimensional analytic method and a two-dimensional separation of variables scheme. For a two-dimensional analysis, the temperature of the inner surface as a boundary condition can be varied along the length of the cylinder by varing the temperature variation factor, b. Comparisons of the heat loss from the hollow cylinder using these two methods are given as a function of non-dimensional cylinder length, the ratio of the outer radius to the inner radius, temperature variation factor and Biot number. The result shows that the value of the heat loss from the hollow cylinder obtained using the one-dimensional analytic method becomes close to the value given by the two-dimensional separation of variables scheme as the value of Biot number and the non-dimensional hollow cylinder length increase and as the ratio of the outer radius to the inner radius decreases.

비선형특성 보상에 의한 공기압 실린더의 위치제어 (A Method of a Nonlinear Position Control of a Pneumatic Cylinder)

  • A method for the position control of a pneumatic cylinder using a linearized controller is proposed. Pneumatic cylinder has highly nonlinear characteristics and modelling of the system has been difficult. Compliance of the pneumatic cylinder is materially changed according to the operating position. So, in the case that fixed gain controller obtained by a linearized model at a specified position is used, response of the cylinder should be changed according to the operating position. In order to get a designed results regardless of operating positions, a controller for compensation of the nonlinear characteristic with a linearlization compensator is designed and simulation results show that this method is appropriate for the control object.

A Method of Accurate Position Control with a Pneumatic Cylinder Driving Apparatus

  • In this paper, a method of accurate position control using a pneumatic cylinder driving apparatus is presented. To overcome the effect of friction force and transmission line, low friction type cylinder applied externally pressurized air bearing structure is used and two control valves attached both side of the cylinder directly. To compensate nonlinear characteristics of control valves, linearized control input derived from the relation between control input and effective area of control valve, and dither signal are applied to the valve. The controller applied to the pneumatic cylinder driving apparatus is composed of a state feedback controller and a disturbance observer. Experimental results show that the effectiveness of the proposed method and position control error of $5{\mu}m$ accuracy could be obtained easily.

사각 밀폐계 내 자연대류에 의한 원형 실린더의 운동 특성에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study of The Motion of a Circular Cylinder Suspended in a Square Enclosure)

  • The present study numerically investigates the motion of a solid body suspended in the square enclosure with natural convection. A two-dimensional circular cylinder levitated thermally has been simulated by using thermal lattice Boltzmann method(TLBM) with the direct-forcing immersed boundary method. To deal with the ascending, falling or levitation of a circular cylinder in natural convection, the immersed boundary method is expanded and coupled with the TLBM. The circular cylinder is located at the bottom of a square enclosure with no restriction on the motion and freely migrates due to the Boussinesq approximation which is employed for the coupling between the flow and temperature fields. For different density ratio between the cylinder and the fluid, the motion characteristics of the circular cylinder for various Grashof numbers have been carried out. The Prandtl number is fixed as 0.7.

파형벽면에 근접하여 이동하는 원형실린더의 공력특성의 수치해석 (Numerical Study on Aerodynamic Characteristic of the Moving Circular Cylinder Near the Wavy Wall)

  • A Computational study was carried out in order to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of circular cylinder moving near the wavy wall at a low Reynolds number of 50. Lattice Boltzmann method was used to simulate the flow field and immersed boundary method was combined to represent the moving cylinder and wavy wall regardless of the constructed grid in the domain. The aerodynamics characteristics of the cylinder moving near the wavy wall were represented by the comparing the lifting coefficients with various altitudes (H/D) and wave length and amplitudes of wavy wall. It indicated that the twice of increasing-decreasing variations of lifting coefficient are obtained while the cylinder moves near the wavy wall. The first variation is obtained where the cylinder locates near the peak of the wavy wall. Another variation occurs when the distance to the wavy wall becomes longer after passing the peak. It was also classified that three different patterns of relation between the lifting and drag coefficient of the cylinder. However, the classification is limited to the case of the same order of altitude, amplitude and wave length of the wavy wall.
