'Youth from Inside to Outside' : A Comparative Study on the Reflected Relations between the Korean Young Generation and the Popular Music in 1990s and 2010s on the Basis of the Mimesis Theory ('청년 안에서부터 바깥으로' : 미메시스 이론을 근간으로 1990년대와 2010년대 청년세대의 저항 및 욕망과 대중음악의 연관성에 대한 비교 연구)

  • Popular music is a spce where intrinsic desires and values of young people are well exposed in its process of production and consumption. Previous discussions of Korean youth and youth culture have been proceeding mainly in the sense of their resistances to older generation. However, this is limited in that it neglects the inherent microscopic characteristics of youth culture. The purpose of this study is to investigate what the signs and discourses of youth generation make and share in popular music, and how it relates to social context through the 'Mimesis' theory. As a result, the songs of the 1990s remarkably showed the resistance to the old generation in its narrative structure and have signs which expresses repression and uniformity. On the other hand, the songs of the 2010s have many fragmented signs which has been reconstructed into individualized discourse structure. It is assumed that the songs have been able to gain a lot of empathy and popularity from the young generation by visualizing emotions and desires experienced by themselves in the social context. Through this study, it suggests to pay attention to the sensitivity, desire and creativity of young people in music in the social and cultural context of the time.

  • The Soviet Silent Films in the 1920s, produced a brilliant prosperity in the history of world films in the cultural and artistic aspects. Among them, Dziga Vertov was a film theorists and a practitioner along with Sergei M. Einstein played a pivotal role in the contemporary soviet films at the time. But the film theories of Vetro is incorrectly recognized or specialized compared to the theories of Eisenstein. But Deleuze has stated that the short in the movie of Vertov is able to deliver a meaning and an impact and he has emphasized that a short can be significant by itself by focusing on the 'truth' which a documentary must have. His film theories are based on futurism and constructivism and use the 'kino-eye' method and 'Interval' theory to summarize and organize his movies into 'movie-truth' principal and 'life as itself' concept. Deleuze the purpose of this research is to analyze with the Vertov core of film theory and every theory of kino eye as the foundation and by comparing the Montage Theory of Sergei Eisenstein and applying Deleuze's Image Theory. Furthermore, it can be insufficient to discuss the film commercial achievements of Vertov as a result of inadequacy of previous research but it will further study his innovative methods and depth of his theories in his representation form in the documentary films.

  • Since South Korea has problems existing in the respects of educational resources, environment, policies, etc., local universities of South Korea have been in an inferior position in the competition of overseas student enrollment. With increasingly deepening of cultural exchange between China and South Korea, due to geographic close relationship between the two countries, a great number of South Korean students go to China for study; also, Chinese students have increasingly become the important target of recruitment by all local universities in South Korea. In recent years, with rapid increase in the number of Chinese students in South Korea, the overseas student education system of South Korea has been progressed continuously. Compared with educational advantages of universities in European, American developed countries, and the capital region of South Korea, however there still exists a lot of problems in Chinese student recruitment by local universities. The major findings of the study can be summarized as follows. There exist not only some advantages but also some problems to be addressed urgently in Chinese student enrollment by South Korean local universities. How to build a distinctive recruitment environment suitable for Chinese students; and, how to develop a complete "one-stop" educational system suitable for study; and, how to make a strategy of development for Chinese students; and, how to perfect set up the overseas students' education management system; which are the remaining tasks to be solved for. To achieve a win-win for both overseas students and South Korean local universities, it is very important and urgent works to do for administrators of Chinese students in all local universities of South Korea.

Brand Identity and Architecture of the 4 Comprehensive Programming Channels (종합편성채널의 브랜드 정체성와 브랜드 체계)

  • This research aims to analyze the characteristics of the channel brand components, identities in accordance with the organizational strategies of the programmes, and brand structures of the comprehensive programming channels. The channels promote themselves mobilizing a variety of channel brand components and, ecxept Channel A, JTBC, TV Chosun, and MBN coined its names which are reminiscent of their parents corporations. The organizational strategies of the programmes are related with the channel identities. TV Chosun, for instance, branded themselves as 'conservative advocate' while focusing on news programs, and Channel A also takes conservative bias strategy focusing on the news programmes, especially after the 2012 presidential election. JTBC, however, organizes drama and entertainment programmes intensively being equivalent to that of terrestrial broadcasting programmes, and MBN positioned neutral and center with the news and cultural programmes. Referring to the brand architecture, which reveals the structural system of the brand, it is argued that TV Chosun and MBN take the integrated corporate brand strategy, while JTBC tries to mix and balance the brands of the parent corporation and its own independent one. Channel A, exceptionally, doesn't take a name of its parent corporation 'Dong-A'. In conclusion, it is argued that the comprehensive programming channels utilize and take the parent corporate brand, mixed brand, and independent brand in accordance with the brand power and circumstances of their own parent corporates.

Media Mix for Webtoon Character Marketing : Focusing on (미디어믹스를 활용한 웹툰 캐릭터 마케팅 : <하마탱의 일편단심 하여가>를 중심으로)

  • Similar to the other cultural contents, the character industry is based on the media which acts as the technological background. In fact, the character industry is the process of that a created character accesses to the consumers via media, builds its value and becomes licensed as a brand in the market. Therefore, it is crucial to select the most effective media for the consistence of a character in the market, as well as for construction of a higher brand quality of the character. Today, "Webtoon" might be considered as one of the marketing means which utilizes the Internet media for raising the character as a brand. Webtoon has apparent strength because it can be produced in shorter period and with less expense than through other media. Furthermore, Webtoon can be simply featured by the easiness of two-way communication and transference to another media through it. For these reasons, and according to the result of analyzing some Korean Webtoons, it seems obvious that the most effective media in character marketing is the Internet. In addition to the Internet, the strategic development in the media-mix is also important for establishing a brand of a character. However, the effective media-mix is available only when the character's external identity meets with the trait of its media. For the purpose of learning how the media-mix works when a character reaches for the consumers, a character "Hamataeng" was born and used in the experiment. This study will explain the marketing process through the use of own-created Webtoon and other contents, and suggest the ways to build a brand of a character. In addition, it is also indicated that a media-mixing strategy for transformation and expansion of the character to other media.

  • The current distribution structure in Korea film industry is in the multiplex chain. As a result, most small or medium-sized theaters have been excluded from the market, and all the multiplex chain have gradually been formed into the vertical integration structure. The strike by multiplex theaters in Chuncheon who did not screen for one month led to the problem of the vertical integration, which resulted in many effects. Particularly, it caused considerable effect on the cultural desire and instigated movie-goers to turn to illegal content. This study surveys the process in which Korean multiplex theaters in vertical integration structure took over the Korean film market, and consequently, small theaters collapsed, and the theaters in vertical integration structure kick out small theaters in horizontal integration structure, and conducts a survey on the effect of the one-month strike by Chuncheon CGV from September 27 to October 30, 2008 in Chuncheon where said processes had completed so as to determine the effect of and impact of the problem of the vertical integration, monopoly structure. When major consumers of the film industry, i.e., people in their 20s, see their access to newly released films limited due to closing of multiplex theaters, they feel the impulse to access illegal contents. If they miss viewing the newly released films, they prefer to view illegal contents or films on recording media rather than visiting theaters showing those films. They are also influenced by timing of film release. Specifically, methods of illegal access to newly released films, permanent accessibility to them via recording media, and timing of film release influence their viewing patterns.

Review of Research Trends on Virtual Reality-Based Intervention for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intervention Characteristics (자폐 범주성 학생을 위한 가상현실 기반 중재 연구동향 및 중재 특성 고찰)

  • The use of virtual reality(VR)-based interventions for students with autism spectrum disorders(ASD) has received special attention as evidence-based practices for its feasiblity, practicality, and appropriateness. However, there is little research to investigate the effects of VR-based intervention for students with ASD in Korea. This study identifies and reviews studies applying VR-based interventions. In total, 13 experimental studies were found that examine the effects of VR interventions published from 1990 to 2016. The selected studies were analyzed by 6 variables including publication year, participants, research design, independent variable, dependent variable, and outcome. The results of this study showed the feasibility of the implementing VR-based interventions in various age group students with ASD. In addition, the utilization of VR techniques was particularly effective in improving a wide range of social communication skills including facial recognition, empathy, joint attention, understanding social context, and resolving issues due to limited cognitive abilities. Several recommendations for the future study on VR-based intervention for students with ASD such as interdisciplinary approach to VR-based interventions, support needs regarding characteristics of ASD, generalization and maintenance of acquired technology, and consideration for participants' cultural background. were discussed.

Attributes and Methods for Information Visualization according as Cognitive Features of STA(Short-term Attractive) Information (STA(Short-term Attractive) 정보의 인지특성에 따른 시각화 속성과 정보 표현)

  • This study aims to consider the display method of the STA information that holds aesthetic cultural distinctiveness with the capability of immediate recognition of information in the relationship between the exposed time and the degree of cognition. As an consideration on the display method of information in an efficient way according as 'information attributes', the purpose of this study is to identify the visualization attributes of the STA information and to seek out display methods accordingly. Based on the information design and cognitive psychology, the cognitive features of the STA information have been identified and four visualization attributes of the STA information have been found based on the preceding studies on the information attributes in line with the relationship between exposure frequency and the level of awareness. In terms of information recognition, a metaphor, metonymy, use of indexical image and context, rhetoric, and Mnemonic have been proposed as major display methods for 'Understandable' and 'Conciseness', which are the major visualization attributes of the STA information while humor, parody, distinctiveness, friendliness, kitsch, formative beauty and newness have been suggested as the major display methods of 'Relevance' and 'Valuable', which are the major visualization attributes from the perspective of sensitive perception of information. Based on the results of this study, I'm planning to come up with display methods and to proceed with analyzing the relationship of the degree of cognition in association with context.

An Impact Analysis on the Regeneration of Idle Space Affecting the Quality of Resident's Life and Local Economy Revitalization from Urban Regeneration Perspective (유휴공간의 재생이 주민 삶의 질 및 지역경제 활성화에 미치는 영향구조 분석)

  • This study evaluates the sectoral effects of the regeneration of the idle space and aims to analyze the impact relationship and structure with the quality of residents's life and local economy revitalization. this study verifies the 8 hypotheses from total 11 ones through the PLS structural equation model and suitability test for setting the hypothesis and statistical significance test. The results can be summarized into 3 parts. First, If physical, social and cultural aspects should be considered, Regeneration of idle space could meet the 2 pasts such as quality of residents life and local economy revitalization at the same time. Secondly, the regeneration of idle space from environmental aspect should be led by the local government and let it's effect leaded to local economy revitalization through the collaboration of private and public sector. Finally, it should promote the quality of resident's life and let the satisfaction linked to cyclical effects with local economy revitalization. This study has an significance that it provides the theoretical basis for regeneration of idle space and it is an empirical study for impact structure model.

An Assessment and Comparative Analysis of Culture and Tourism Festival Service Quality, Satisfaction and Revisit (Focusing on 2013-2014 Cheonan World Dance Festival) (문화관광축제 서비스품질과 만족 및 재방문 평가 비교분석 (2013-2014년 천안흥타령 춤 축제를 대상으로))

  • It was intended to enhance the quality of festival and contribute as image of refined local festival by making an empirical and cross-sectional analysis of effect that the overall quality of service provided in the local festival had on users' satisfaction and revisit intention by using 2013-2014 two-year data for visitors who had enjoyed "Cheonan Heungtaryeong Dance Festival", best festival designated by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism after 2012. The results of analyzing a difference for 2 years are as follows. 1) Among social quality factors, both cultural effect and image effect showed a significant difference with p=.001 and p=.004. 2) Among process quality factors, food and souvenir showed a significant difference with p=.27. 3) Among physical quality factors, both convenience in connection with the visitors' enjoying the festival and facility arrangement didn't show difference between groups with p=.130 and .408. Finally, in the item of whether the overall service quality of festival had an effect on visitor satisfaction and whether visitor satisfaction with festival had an effect on revisit intention, each of these had p=.000. So, it was shown that there was statistically significant difference. In other words, it is proved that the enhancement of service quality lead to high satisfaction, and this arouses revisit intention and produces word of mouth effect.
