  • Worldview-3 satellite sensor provides panchromatic image with high-spatial resolution and 8-band multispectral images. Therefore, an image-sharpening technique, which sharpens the spatial resolution of multispectral images by using high-spatial resolution panchromatic images, is essential for various applications of Worldview-3 images based on image interpretation and processing. The existing pansharpening algorithms tend to tradeoff between spectral distortion and spatial enhancement. In this study, we applied six pansharpening algorithms to Worldview-3 satellite imagery and assessed the quality of pansharpened images qualitatively and quantitatively. We also analyzed the effects of time lag for each multispectral band during the pansharpening process. Quantitative assessment of pansharpened images was performed by comparing ERGAS (Erreur Relative Globale Adimensionnelle de Synthèse), SAM (Spectral Angle Mapper), Q-index and sCC (spatial Correlation Coefficient) based on real data set. In experiment, quantitative results obtained by MRA (Multi-Resolution Analysis)-based algorithm were better than those by the CS (Component Substitution)-based algorithm. Nevertheless, qualitative quality of spectral information was similar to each other. In addition, images obtained by the CS-based algorithm and by division of two multispectral sensors were shaper in terms of spatial quality than those obtained by the other pansharpening algorithm. Therefore, there is a need to determine a pansharpening method for Worldview-3 images for application to remote sensing data, such as spectral and spatial information-based applications.

  • An integrity testing for stone columns was attempted using crosshole S-wave logging. The method is conceptionally quite similar to the crosshole sonic logging (CSL) for drilled piers. The critical difference in the logging is the use of S-wave rather than P-wave, which is used in CSL, because swave is the only wave sensing the stiffness of slower unbounded materials than water. An electro-mechanical source, which can generate reversed Swave signals, was utilized in the logging. The stone column was delineated using the S-wave travel times across the stone column, the S-wave velocity profile of the crushed stone($V_{cs}$-profile) and that of surrounding soil($V_s$-profile). In the calculation of $V_{cs}$-profile of the crushed stone, its friction angle and Ko (coefficient of lateral earth pressure at rest) are recommended to be used. The calculation of the column diameter is not much affected by the values of friction angle and Ko.

  • Generally, it's known fact that intensity of radioactivity satisfies inverse-square law. However, the law was dissatisfied with practical experiment because of limited shape of scintillation detector. Especially, in the case of near distance between the surface of detector and the radioactive source, the difference grows larger. In the present study, reason of this difference was confirmed by experiment with $2^{{\prime}{\prime}}{\times}2^{{\prime}{\prime}}{\phi}$ NaI(Tl) scintillation detector and $^{60}Co$(1.174 MeV, 1.333 MeV)and $^{137}Cs$(0.662 MeV) gamma ray sources. From the experiment, the correction coefficient was obtained with gamma ray detection efficiency and geometrical volume. In the result of the present study, the efficiency difference of the detector was corrected with the coefficient. In the present result, we obtained that the inverse-square law experiment have to consider the efficiency and geometrical value of the detector.

  • The aim of the present study is to evaluate the validity of orthodontic measurements including tooth width, Bolton ratio, overjet and overbite on the digital dental models. Dental models of the subjects aged 12 to 18 were obtained in 3 different forms, which were conventional stone model, digital model created with Freedom HD model scanner, and digital model produced with CS3600 intraoral scanner. After measurements were made on the models, reliability and reproducibility of the measurements were evaluated by using intraclass correlation coefficient, while validity was assessed with paired t-test. As a result, significant reliability and reproducibility were verified, with intraclass correlation coefficient exceeding 0.750 in all groups. Measurements of the model scanned group showed an adequate validity in overall and anterior Bolton ratio, overjet, and overbite. Intraoral scanned models showed an adequate validity in anterior Bolton ratio, and overjet. Measurement on intraoral scanned digital models can be considered as an alternative for young children who have difficulty in taking impression. Furthermore, careful considerations on measurement error should be made in clinical situations.
