  • The gas-phase S_N2$ reactions can be classified into neutral bimolecular, solvated, and ionic reactions; the neutral bimolecular reaction proceeds via retention mechanism whereas the ionic reaction produces inversion products. In the reaction of solvated nucleophile with one solvent molecule, a six-center transition state (TS) is formed and the two processes i.e., retention and inversion, are found to compete with a favored path depending on the electronic effect of the nucleophile and substituents in the substrate and on the steric requirement. In the ionic reaction, the difference in the energy barrier between the two processes reduces to a small value when the substrate methyl group is made bulky, leaving ability of the leaving group is improved and at the same time the negative charge of the nucleophile is dispersed. When the reaction center atom in the $S_N2$ reaction is changed to a larger sized second row elements, the activation barrier decreases since the steric crowding in the penta-coordinated TS is relieved. However within the same row, the barrier was found to increase as the atomic size decreased. For the boron, B, the barrier height was the least since in addition to the relatively large atomic size compared to C and N, it forms tetra-coordinated TS so that the steric crowding becomes nearly negligible.

  • The spanwise growth of turbulence structures in turbulent pipe flow was investigated using the direct numerical simulation data of Re𝜏 = 544, 934 and 3008. Two-point correlations and pre-multiplied energy spectra of streamwise velocity fluctuations were examined along the spanwise direction. The arclength direction is defined as r𝛳, which is useful for an analogy with the spanwise direction for channels or boundary layers; here, r and 𝛳 are the radial distance from the core and the azimuthal angles, respectively. Both analyses showed that the arclength scales increased with increasing the wall-normal distance. It showed that the coherent structures were confined in the core region due to the crowding effect of a circular pipe geometry. The pipe flow simulation could describe a realistic geometrical flow along the azimuthal direction, unlike the simulations of turbulent channel or boundary layer flow using periodic boundary conditions along the spanwise direction. The present results provided the spanwise organization of energy-containing motions over a broad range of scales in turbulent pipe flow.

  • This review provides an overview of dietary nucleotides as an alternative to in-feed antibiotics for weaning pigs. Dietary nucleotides are composed of DNA or RNA molecules and are normally contained in protein-rich feed ingredient, brewer's yeast, yeast extract, and milk. Weaning pigs are suffering from several stresses, such as environmental challenges (i.e. crowding, transportation, and feeding). Such stressors can damage the intestinal epithelium and cause an invasion by Escherichia coli, secondary inflammatory responses, and post weaning diarrhea. To overcome weaning disorder, people often use antibiotics which reduce symptoms and boost growth performance. However, since antibiotics were banned due to concerns of antibiotic resistant bacteria, researchers are studying alternative materials to antibiotics. Dietary nucleotides are one of the alternative materials for replacing antibiotics and can be used in abnormal conditions, such as weaning diarrhea, low digestibility, and disease condition. Nucleotides have substances that have important roles in cell division and cell growth, affecting growth performance, intestinal condition, and immunological effect at the weaning stage. However, nucleotides' composition is very different between sources and this aspect makes it difficult to utilize nucleotides at the weaning stage. Therefore, this review paper focuses on i) the characteristics and functions of dietary nucleotides and ii) the effect of dietary nucleotides on the growth performance and immune system of pigs.

  • Competing theories predict that others' contributions might be either substitutes or complements to one's own. Based on such competing theoretical discussions, this study attempted to examine the relationship between information about other citizens' giving behavior and citizens' giving. To achieve study objective, this study utilized a natural field experiment that investigates citizens' voluntary contributions to three types of kettle (transparent kettle with no money, transparent kettle with a large amount of bills and coinage, and red invisible kettle) during Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign in 2011 and 2012. The experiment took place at subway stations which does not differences in the amount donated in previous years. In this field experiment, this study manipulated information about other citizens' giving behavior available to citizens by altering the different red kettle donation boxes. This study found that there are no positive or negative information effect on individual citizens' contributions. The results did not show either crowding-out effect or crowing-in effect. Thus, this study showed that social information has statistically non-significant impact on the propensity to donate and the amount donated.

  • Purpose - Many countries rely on currency depreciation or debt-financed government spending to stimulate their economies. Currency depreciation tends to increase net exports and aggregate demand but reduce short-run aggregate supply due to higher import costs. Debt-financed government spending increases aggregate demand, but the crowding-out effect due to a higher real interest rate may reduce private spending and aggregate demand. Therefore, the net impact of currency depreciation or debt-financed government spending on equilibrium real GDP is unclear. Research design, data, and methodology - This paper examines potential impacts of real depreciation of the ringgit, more government debt as a percent of GDP and other relevant macroeconomic variables on aggregate output in Malaysia. Results - Applying the AD/AS model, this paper finds that aggregate output in Malaysia is positively associated with real appreciation during 2005.Q3-2010.Q3, real depreciation during 2010.Q4-2016.Q1, the debt-to-GDP ratio and the real stock price, negatively affected by the real lending rate and inflation expectations, and is not influenced by the real oil price. Conclusions - Real depreciation of the ringgit after 2010. Q3 or sustainable expansionary fiscal policy would be beneficial to the economy.

  • Unerupted or erupted supernumerary tooth may cause crowding, diastema, cyst formation, resorption, and displacement or rotation of adjacent teeth. However, there are few studies about prognosis about the pathologic condition and expectation of spontaneous eruption. The object of this study is to evaluate factors predicting the spontaneous eruption of supernumerary tooth. 431 patients (346 males and 85 females, aged from 5 to 29 years) who visited our institution from 2002-2006 and were shown to have 471 mesiodentes was reviewed. Supernumerary teeth were classified inverted and not inverted state. In case of not inverted supernumerary tooth, eruption rate ac cording to length of supernumenary tooth, width of the tooth, angle between the tooth and incisor tooth, location (inside the incisor or not) and shape (conical or tubercle) were investigated. The regression model showed that length, width and angle were all important determinants of influencing the eruption of supernumerary tooth (p < 0.001, Pearson R: 0.619). There is no relation between shape and eruption of supernumerary tooth (p > 0.05). Location of mesiodens has an effect on eruption of supernumerary tooth (p < 0.01).

  • A 12-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of different stocking densities on the growth, body composition, stress, antioxidant status, and immune responses of juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss. Juvenile rainbow trout (32.2±0.5 g) were randomly placed in eight experimental tanks, each containing 2,000 L of water, at stocking densities of 150, 300, 600, and 1,200 individual/m3. The trout were assigned to four treatments (2.4, 4.8, 9.7, and 19.4 kg/m3) in duplicates. Following after the feeding trial, the fish cultured in the less dense group showed significantly higher growth and survival (P<0.05). In terms of proximate composition, the whole body crude protein and lipid contents were lower in the denser group (19.4 kg/m3). Regarding the antioxidant and immune responses, the fish reared in the relatively denser group exhibited lower lysozyme, immunoglobulin M, and superoxide dismutase levels. The stress indicators, glucose and cortisol, were significantly lower in the less dense group (2.4 kg/m3), while the denser group (19.4 km/m3) exhibited higher AST and ALP levels(P<0.05). The results showed that denser stocking has a crowding stress effect and negatively impacts growth and immune responses.

  • Predicting the arch length discrepancy by simply comparing the available arch perimeter with tooth materials is merely a 2-dimensional analysis of the teeth movement. However, the real teeth movement takes place 3-dimensionally and is affected by various factors such as, the arch fen the curve of Spee and the axis of the incisors. The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between the decrease in the arch perimeter and the horizontal positional change of the incisors after extraction of the 1st bicuspids, for more analytic evaluation of the arch length discrepancy at pre-treatment model analysis stage. In addition to that to evaluate the effect of the curve of Spee, teeth axis to the basal plane, and the incisional crowding to the treatment outcome. All patients were treated at the department of orthodontics, dental hospital, Yonsei university. Inclusion criteria for patients selection were as follows. $\cdot$ Angle classification I malocclusion with bialveolar protrusion $\cdot$ Extraction of 4 1st bicuspids $\cdot$ No tooth anomaly or prosthesis $\cdot$ No abnormal attrition $\cdot$ No ectopically erupted teeth $\cdot$ Angle classification I canine and molar relationship $\cdot$ Less than 3mm of crowding Model analysis of the above patients was performed and the following conclusions were obtained. 1. When the intercanine distance was maintained, the available space for the distal movement of the mandibular incisors after the extraction of the 4 1st bicuspids was larger than the space provided by the extraction of the 4 1st bicuspids. However the difference was less than 1mm. The more tapered the anterior arch form, the larger the difference. 2. Compared to the situation in which the intercanine distance was maintained, when the intercanine distance was expanded to meet the width of the Posterior teeth, the incisors could move about 3mm more distally. 3. The positional difference of the incisal tip was insignificant whether the central incisors were moved by tipping or bodily movement. 4. When the anterior crowding was solved without changing the intercanine distance, the larger the anterior arch length was, the more the anterior movement of the incisors. 5. When the curve of Spee was levelled, the increase in the arch perimeter was less than half of the deepest curve of Spee.

  • This research examined a study on the effect of the self-determination and motivation in the crowdsourcing on the continuous participation intention. This study has classified the three elements of the self-determination which is not forced by outer pressure has intended to analyze practically the effect on the motivation of the customers participating in the crowdsourcing into the intrinsic motivation phase and extrinsic motivation phase. The autonomy, competence and relatedness could be verified with the intrinsic motivation phase of the participants who affect positively the enjoyment and accomplishment. In the effect autonomy, competence and relatedness on the monetary compensation and recognition by others of the extrinsic motivation phase, the hypothesis that the effect autonomy, competence and relatedness of the on the monetary compensation would be negative was overruled, which must have been because while the participation in the crowdsourcing is proposing voluntarily one's own ideas, the concept that the monetary compensation makes the participants participate in order to perceive others not in the voluntary proposals but in the competitive relationships and win them worked and thus the autonomy was perceived negatively. Also, the reason why the relationship between the monetary compensation and the autonomy, competence and relatedness was not supported can be said to be because the crowding-out effect which decreases the intrinsic motivation affected the external compensation and the motivation.
