  • This case study aimed to investigate changes in adolescents' awareness of the motivation behind their excessive internet gaming after group music psychotherapy. Five middle school students participated in six 60-minute group sessions over 4 weeks. The group music psychotherapy program was developed to help participants understand their implicit reasons for excessive internet gaming. Verbal responses were obtained from pre-program and post-program interviews and original lyrics created by participants during program were collected for analysis. Obtained data were analyzed in terms of emotional and cognitive aspects in relation to the participants' awareness of the motivation behind their excessive gaming. The results showed that song writing as creative musical process allowed participants to be aware of positive and negative influence of gaming on themselves and express their motivation to change their perception on gaming behavior. Also, the participants reported that the use of musical product for their daily lives could be an effective coping strategy to manage their gaming behaviors and an alternative for gaming. The findings from this study support that group music psychotherapy can be an effective approach to promote awareness of adolescents' motives for excessive internet gaming and to help adolescents better manage their gaming behaviors.

  • This study examined the psychological and social factors of middle-aged conglomerate executives in Korea for successful adaptation after their involuntary retirement. For this, in-depth interviews on 13 retired executives (male, average age 58.2) including changes over time and their assessment or interpretation on them were conducted, and the contents were analyzed in phenomenological methods. As a result, 'financial preparation' and 'spousal support' were predisposing factors of adaptation. The starting point of adaptation was 'acceptance of reality', which consisted of subfactors such as reevaluating the past life, acknowledging various changes and deviating from the past, accepting themselves as common retiree in the 50s, living with anxiety, and the need of proper time. Next, they made cognitive and emotional reevaluations and reevaluated the value of life, and reestablished 'psychological reconstruction' and 'ego identity' through new activities that they chose. Their retirement and adaptation processes after retirement are the conflicting process from their experience as a conglomerate executive that satisfied psychological and social capital and the consequent story on maladaptive coping style, as well as a narration in cognitive, emotional and behavioral perspectives to overcome such disharmony. Results of this study provides implications for corporations, nation and retirees on handling retirement.

  • In this study, we tried to find out the difference in confidence in performing Healthy Life on CPR before and after CPR education to middle school volunteers. Through the above statistical analysis process, the following findings were obtained: First, the general characteristics of the respondents who participated in this survey were higher than that of boys, followed by third, first and second graders. Second, junior high school volunteers were shown to have similar confidence (Chonbach's α=.80) and confidence (Chonbach's α=.76) before CPR education, and confidence in the degree of social contribution (Chonbach's α=7.77). Third, the Pearson Rates Correlation was performed to see the correlation between grade, gender, pre-education confidence, post-training confidence, confidence in the application of airway methods, confidence in the patient's breathing, confidence in chest compression, confidence in the use of defibrillators, and post-cardiopulmonary resuscitation education. As a result, it was confirmed that there was a significant correlation between all the spokesmen. In particular, post-training self-confidence was the highest correlation with coping confidence in case of cardiac arrest, followed by chest compressive confidence. Comparing and reviewing these findings and prior studies as shown above, we were able to establish that CPR education has an impact on the confidence performed by gender.

  • This study was performed to clarify 'jajonshim' which is different from self-esteem in its social representation and concept in Korean society. In order to refine the notion of 'jajonshim', we first referred to literature and short essay on jajonshim and analyzed its cultural meaning and social representation in Korea. As a result, jajonshim was considered necessary condition for human beings in Korean culture. Although jajonshim was not well recognized normally, it became critical when it was threatened by others and considered to be what one must save as well. Furthermore, the ground theory designed by Strauss and Corbin was utilized in order to analyze Korean interviewees' experience of jajonshim. Koreans believed that their jajonshim was injured when others disrespected their values, which consequently produced negative emotions. When their jajonshim was damaged, people also used 3 coping strategies to recover it. Based on the results, jajonshim was distinguished from self-esteem. First, jajonshim is a type of self-awareness people experience when they are disrespected; thus, it is different from self-esteem which is maintained stable regardless of any events or situations. Second, unlike self-esteem which is solely evaluated by oneself, jajonshim is evaluated by other people's point of view. This study shows that jajonshim exists in the context of Korean culture and has significance in clarifying the cognitive structure and experience process of jajonshim.

  • This study aims to explore how professors at community colleges are experiencing career guidance for their students, uncovering key components related to causes, phenomena, contexts, coping strategies, etc., and deriving a paradigm model to structurally. To achieve this objective, focus group interviews were conducted with a total of 23 community college professors, and the results were analyzed using the grounded theory method (Strauss & Corbin, 1998). The analysis yielded 17 categories and 31 subcategories. The central phenomenon in the career guidance of community college professors was categorized into two groups: the distress experience in career guidance and attitude changes toward interactions with students..Three categories of causal conditions contributing to the occurrence of the central phenomenon were identified: professors' lack of expertise in career guidance, students' scope and needs for career guidance, and students' low interest and expectations. Additionally, four contextual conditions corresponding to special situations or circumstances that contributed to the central phenomenon were identified: increasing demand for career guidance, excessive burden and time constraints for career guidance, lack of communication about career guidance at the institutional level, and limitations within the career guidance support system. Furthermore, the study uncovered patterns of action-interaction, mediating conditions, and outcomes. This study is expected to contribute to a better understanding of the actual experiences of college professors in the career guidance process, and to stimulate consideration of the types of support required for effective career guidance for college professors in the future.

  • This study was performed to compare the treatment efficiencies of two media, newly developed Bio-rock and conventional gravel, in soil clothing contact oxidation process. The composition of synthetic wastewater were $COD_{Cr}$ $150{\sim}370\;mg/L$, $BOD_5$ $150{\sim}270\;mg/L$, T-N $20{\sim}60\;mg/L$, T-P $5{\sim}25\;mg/L$, pH 7 and 2 mL/L of trace element solution. The experiment using two reactors was comparatively conducted for the flow rate of 40 L/d for 13 months, respectively. Initially Bio-rock reactor was increased to pH 12 due to $Ca(OH)_2$ with hydration of cement, but gravel reactor was dropped to pH 4 due to the degradation of organic material and nitrification. This significant pH variation deteriorated the growth and activity of microorganism. But the high pH of Bio-rock seems favorite to ammonia stripping and precipitation of phosphate. Such pH variation of Bio-rock and gravel reactors were finally stabilized to pH 8 and pH 6, respectively. The removal efficiencies of organic compounds from Bio-rock reactor were 96% of $COD_{Cr}$, 98% of $BOD_5$, 80% of T-N and 85% of T-P which stably coping against variation of influent concentration. But those of gravel reactor were 96% of $COD_{Cr}$, 96% of $BOD_5$, 42% of T-N and 40% of T-P, respectively. The Bio-rock was 2 times higher than T-N and T-P in treatment efficiency. And electron-microscopic examination showed that Bio-rock was more favorable to microbial adherence than gravel. The microbial populations were $5.2{\times}10^6\;CFU/mL$ of Bio-rock reactor compared to $2.6{\times}10^6\;CFU/mL$ in gravel reactor. In result Bio-rock was favor to microbial adherence and high treatment efficiency in spite of variation of influent concentration which had the advantages in saving running time and reducing site requirement.
